What really bugs me is when they say some company sent them the product but they are not sponsored and that we will get an honest review. It's like wtf. The whole reason your channel has relevancy is because these companies send you these products early for you to do your 'honest' review which consists of gushing over how awesome the product is except for one little flaw that's not a big deal.
Let's be real, these guys cream all over themselves to exchange emails with companies like Sony and Canon and Apple and Samsung about new product launches and there is no way they can be objective at all regardless of whether they say its sponsored or not. Either they got the product early or they are building their channel up to get the product early. And you can't do that by burning bridges.
So to mediate this conundrum they find themselves in they say they did not send the video to be checked. Doesn't matter. They are psychologically chained to make sure they keep these corporations happy so they can keep getting their emails and possibility of early product reviews.
They keep the video 95% positive and then mention some weak point every one already knows while basically showing a 10 minute commercial of tracking shots of said product.
They then every once in a while pick a product from a smaller company to trash or do a really honest review not concerned with a backlash from that company.
The only exception is when the corporation releases a real stinker of a product and everyone knows which gives them cover to post an 'honest' review.
These people are basically marketing mouthpieces and pretend like they are doing us a service when they are just basically a new cog in an overhyped consumerist economy.

Maybe panasonic is content with their 5% of the market. Or they are listening to the “real professionals” who are telling them AF is for amateurs and little kids and “real professionals” like to use their wrists 👋💦
Before anyone takes this personal I’m just kidding. 🤗

I like ProAV as a company to buy from and their videos about products are hype free and informative.
However, I think that video is a misstep by them and there are some presumptions in there from them about how you could use it that won't leave them with a leg to stand on when people want to return them.
I'm utterly baffled why they would make a video about something with that many caveats in it without closing with "and of course we won't be taking any orders for these until all of these issues are at the very least clarified by Canon".

I think we're going to have to introduce a superior AF system and sell to a wide range of people to make our business viable, because cameras will sell even less in the future.
People who need MF can simply turn off AF.
There is no need to deny the superior AF system.

Yeah their get-out clause is always "I wasn't paid!"
That isn't the main thing. They have formed a relationship with an important company that is giving them relevance and an elevated pedestal online, Canon even put McKinnon in the official R5 launch on the same platform as their Japanese bosses.
Is he really going to turn around and bite that hand...
A good way to put it 🙂
It is a stampede to get noticed and be relevant.
Although they may not get paid for reviews, they DO get paid for speaking on behalf of big companies at events like Photokina.
They DO get their expensive travel plans and hotels paid for and sometimes a trip to a tropical island.
If they were upfront about all this, it would amount to a big YES I DO GET PAID.
    Just be honest about it.
I want guys like Peter to do a video with a big gurning AMAZED face saying "YES I AM A BIASED PROSTITUTE"
Sadly I feel the audience responds to this!
They love it and come back for more.
They fall for it hook line and sinker every time!
If they didn't, companies like Canon would not bother giving out the cameras.
Yep seen a few of those too.

I can see AF having a great appeal in lower budget productions (exactly the kinds of ones that would use a C300/FX9! And not an ARRI), where they'll have a 1st AC (because productions need that, even if no focus pulling is being done) but they'll lack the budget for a proper professional career 1st AC.
Instead they'll have say a 2nd AC who is stepping up, or perhaps a videographer who supplements his work with a bit of AC work, and those kinds of folk.

Thus the bulk of the shooting is done with manual focus pulling on nice cinema lenses, but for tricky shots such as on a gimbal or long tracking shots (which are stretching beyond the capabilities of this focus puller moonlighting as a "1st AC") then they switch over to a native AF lens.

Do you know how many movies and dramas are shot in Korea every year? You mentioned two korean directors every redditor wanks off to. I just spoke to a Korean Producer who has a studio film in the korean theaters right now a couple of weeks ago about shooting long scenes with af lenses to keep track of the actors. I personally know dp's who have used sony and canon cameras the past year on all types of shoots using af. Why are there so many people on this site who think they know everything about what everyone is doing? And why are you interrogating me? But I'll play along.
No, I don't mean Bong joon ho or Park chan-wook.
They are using c300 mkii and fx9's and canon and sony lenses.
It's not for the whole production. Specific shots where they know they can save time and get the shot done. So yes most of the shoots are of course done with an ac/puller.
I personally know and have worked with these people. I have worked in the Korean film industry for over 12 years now and worked in film and tv in NYC since the early 90s. I am very aware of how productions work. I have done everything from tape dubbing to dping indie films to directing short films and theatrically released feature films.
And no I won't share people's names with you. Just deal with the fact the world is bigger than what your perspective might be.
Here's a rental house a few blocks away from me. A lot of productions in Seoul rent from houses like this. Go to the cine camera section and then the lens section and then draw your own conclusions.

It’s not crippling it’s the cynicism that everyone finds offensive. In fact this is canon’s snarky answer to all the criticism built over the years over their crippling. It’s like the C200. You can have the usual 8bit but you also get the completely impractical raw and also no 10bit which is what most professionals would use. Now you can’t accuse them of crippling. It’s the same cynicism with the R5. You get hq4k AND 8k so you can’t accuse them of crippling. But they can only be used for 20 minutes every 3 hours otherwise just use the line skipping 4k that was meh even 5 years ago. So before you point fingers and say we’re all noobs for pointing out this new level of cynicism from Canon maybe you should look in the mirror and try to see what’s really goin on. Noob.

I am not interrogating you, I am genuinely curious.
I believe that Koreans can do it differently, and probably they will be the first to use AF.
It is that I work a couple of decades in the industry in 3 different European countries and AF is not used at all in higher productions, for a lot of reasons that are well documented in this and other forums.
The only time I have used touch AF (and not C-AF) is on non critical shots and it will stay like this.
We are talking about an entry level camera here, I do not expect its footage to be nationally televised, here or there, but yes, I demand great AF on a hybrid camera in 2020.
Sorry if I sounded too critical, I wasn't, I just know what I know and AF is not really a huge deal for demanding video work, it is more a lower level production thingy, and something for the younger crowds.
Vlogers/bloggers/young wedding creators that are not very experienced with focusing and other one man's bands not able to excel on another part of a video production.

You're not wrong.  Good specs help sell cameras.  People like me say they don't need it, but in a few years when all manufacturers offer it and it's decent across the board even on middle and low-end models, I'll end up with it --and when that happens I assume I'll find the same practical use for it as everyone else, for sure.  Just not going out of my way to acquire it right now.

But yes probably 99% of film production is shot on cine lenses with focus puller. But some productions will use an af lens on some shots like a long tracking shot with an actor. I don't know specific scenes from movies or tv shows but pds and dps have told me they have done this to save time and cut down on takes. And these are all from conversations the past maybe year and half so this is a new thing. Also, be aware that new tech is adopted quickly in Korea especially if it can save time and money. Korean productions move very fast with low budgets. I don't want to seem argumentative but I think af will be used more and more often for specific types of shots. I know this to be a fact because I am prepping a film and have personally discussed using af lens for some long shots in a tight interior location where it would just make more sense.
Anyway sorry to derail this thread but I think Panasonic definitely needs to sort out their af situation for documentary shooters, event shooters and even some indie filmmakers.
