Same. Too many caveats for me.

I will probably buy the camera, but I do too would prefer a more XC-esque design. It is one of the best small video designs lately.
The battery too is not sufficient for its intended use, this is a fact and everyone agrees. There are workarounds ofcourse, but those add to size, weight and cost, in peculiar ways.
A little critique can lead to better products.
On the other hand, the silly comments of not being able to put a flashgun on one, doesn't add credit to their authors.

I would have preferred an XC15 design with the tilt screen. I don't understand why they did not just make it look like a video camera. As it is it looks rather awkward. A rotating grip would have been great to have. A bigger battery would have gone a long way to negate the need for rigging.

Actually since it relies so heavily on Touch sensitivity (plus that well spaced and amazingly well laid out menu) they put the 5inch monitor on it. With a low tensile strength body like this composite one (compared to aluminium and maybe even magnesium alloy) the body would have cracked with any kind of movement on the monitor.
Plus the Aluminium and Magnesium alloy would have added to the price.
Even though it isn't heavy at all, I still think it's quite large.
@Andrew Reid you've turned this into another low light monster (like the amazing f0.74 you pushed the original BMPCC to). I wish someone would make an extremely small gimbal (maybe built into a cage only slightly larger than the one made by smallRig) built into a Camera Cage.
I still think the body is too large. I wish it were smaller. It would be easier to hide it and easier to have it on a tiny gimbal.

No - it should have a MF sensor. FF is not cinematic enough these days.....

For the first time ever I've come face to face with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K has come face to face with me. It's time to face facts without doing an about-face.

Blackmagic puts out an official hardware and configuration guide for every version of Resolve, no better advice than from the people who write the software: https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/DaVinciResolve/20180407-79c607/DaVinci_Resolve_15_Configuration_Guide.pdf

elite video player and private hosting is a solution.
https://codecanyon.net/item/elite-video-player/10013114
we can host in googledrive or MEGA, and link the the player directly embeded in our websites.
that way you are not putting your work in the whim of greedy executives

Agree with @Shirozina
Yes, go for the 1080 and 32GB over the 1070 and 64GB of RAM. You can always add more RAM later if you need to.

Of course it would always be great to have a high end work station but just to add another view point to some of the high spec suggestions above..
It depends what files you are working with ie low compression raw files will need the fast raid drives but files from gh5/fujis/Sony's not so much.
I am currently using a i7 7700k with a Amd Rx 480 (8gb) GPU and no big raid set ups. I use resolve with a variety of 4k footage from Pana/Fuji/blackmagics and can run all projects at the full frame rates with smooth editing all around. Only noise reduction slows it down. Even with a bunch of nodes and film convert it still 100% smooth. For me a bigger rig would only cut render times and improve noise reduction performance.
So think about your usesage/budget together.

How about diversifying this post to Best Editing Pcs at various price points:
1. $1000
2. $2000
3. $3000
4. $5000
5. $10000
Anyone wanting to spend more than $10k on an editing PC should probably just use services of companies like Prime Focus or some high end post processing and management agency.

Would be brilliant to share seriously cinematic footage on pornhub. Wonder if they have a "only porn" sharing policy?

Thanks. It’s an 80s era video so I made a custom look just for this.

The BMPCC4k is an evolution of the original cinema camera, and original pocket - combined into one camera.
I think BM is going higher end with a large format version of the UMP.

hansel reacted to A_Urquhart in Blackmagic: a middle-gound...?
I mentioned something similar in the Pocket4K thread just after I got the camera.
I bought mine as a B Cam to the Ursa Mini Pro. Ultimately though, I would happily have paid a little more for a 'Pocket4KPro'.
Sensor wise, I'm happy with the MFT sensor as I am using mine exclusively with Speedboosters. The other downside generally for MFT is low light performance but I'm really happy with the Pocket4K in that regard.
Blackmagic, make a Pocket4K Pro with same sensor but a form factor that can include a tilting screen, can accomodate a Sony BPU-60 style battery, an SDi output and maybe has internal ND's. For me, I would want it a little smaller than an FS5, maybe similar to a Canon XC15/ C100 style. ?

hansel reacted to Danyyyel in X-T3 vs A7III vs EOS R vs Z7 vs Pocket 4K - Video Quality Compared!
In what way does the z7 disappoint, perhaps if he did take a little time and test the camera a little bit more he would know that every camera does not have same basic settings. You have sharpness settings on every Nikon camera and it can be dialed down, same for DJI drone for example where the default setting is too high and people know they should just dial it down. For me getting such a detailed and moire/alias free image from a 45 megapixel sensor is extraordinary and a win for Nikon.
Now lets go the meat of that test, looking at a 400% enlargement of a 4k image is like looking at a 100 - 200 inch screen from about 15 inch. It is completely unrealistic, just good for geeks and not shooters, thats why all these cameras are very good resolution wise. Even the Eos-R would pass a lot of people eye without a side by side. What will make a difference when those camera rez are good enough now is colour, DR, noise, motion cadence and rolling shutter, with Colour and DR being the most important in normal shooting condition.

Calling Andrew biased towards Canon is the joke of the year. I don't think anyone has been as hard on Canon than Andrew in the past half-decade..

hansel reacted to Andrew Reid in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
Bit worried about the screen really.
As it's a touch screen, a loupe is going to disable a lot of the menus and controls. There is no d-pad or joystick. Is it possible to navigate the menus without the touch screen?
I've heard people describe the screen as "good"... For me a "good screen" is one you can actually see. If it goes invisible outdoors and you can't tilt it, it's not a good screen
Blackmagic have the guts of a great cinema camera here - and the good workflow to go with it (Resolve). Why could they not have spent more than 5 minutes on the body design? Just basic common sense stuff...
1. With such a large body and high power requirements, why only have room for one battery? Why not have a vertical grip? With it being a Canon fit, I wonder if any of the Canon DSLR vertical battery grips fit? Why not use a 1D X size battery under the base?
2. Screen should have been articulated... surely
3. The hotshoe should have had contacts for a slot-in EVF - pretty sure Olympus has one they could have made it compatible with, powered by the cam.
4. Not talking about adding too much cost or complexity here, just the basics... Like if you have a battery door, make sure it stays shut properly?!
5. They are on their 4th generation of camera now... So no excuses for badly thought out half baked solutions
6. Do a $2500 version next. Use the classic slim Sony NEX 7 form factor - twin dials, corner EVF, tilting screen, slim body, IBIS, power efficient processor, XQD card slot, lighter, that would be a major winner.

hansel reacted to Andrew Reid in Dynamic range test - EOS R / X-T3 / Z7 / A7 III / GH5S / who has the best LOG?
The slight catch is that the camera is at my girlfriend's in Berlin! I won't get it until Tuesday or Wednesday next week. That gives me at least 4 days to stitch a nice rain jacket for it. Or maybe a small umbrella that attaches to the hotshoe?
