    RED's new toy?!

And... its out! http://downloads.red.com/hydrogen.pdf Order page: http://www.red.com/hydrogen Who said they wanted cell phone functionality in their cameras? I think someone else wanted to mount their phones onto their cameras and/or have android apps on their cameras.... well... here it is.
  2. Double edged sword aint it? -Let the camera roll (and having to sift through endless amounts of video and sort it out) vs. missing that shot because you weren't rolling.
  3. Whether its a 1DC or 1DX - it doesn't really matter. Even if it is a 2012 camera - lets just be reminded that Mad Max Fury Road used 5D Mark 2s for crash footage and thats a 2008 camera in a 2015 film. So, ultimately, we have to be asking ourselves, may be it isn't all about tech specs and resolution. And, I do agree about the smaller cameras allows for additional dimensions of creative freedom.
  4. Intel released the x9i - 18 cores FTW??? https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/5/30/15710476/intel-core-x-processors-i9-chips-i5-i9-skylake-kaby-lake-computex
  5. May be I'm the only one... but I want 5K up to 100fps - and various resolutions up to 5K & frame rates up to 300fps 12 to 16 bit - compressed RAW? I mean RED is doing it... of course they are already at 8K - fix the damned heating issues and give us more!

    C100 mkiii

We will see about the C100iii after its out.... But, as you point out... if Canon is doing so well... why worry? Whats knocking these Canon reps off their high horses? At this point, you don't need to convince me... convince the Canon reps...

Alright buddy, go tell them Canon reps to keep their humility and ego intact.

See... this... we've been saying it for years.... Canonrumors forum peeps - always throw the same old - Canon is number 1 & making the money to prove it - argument. Their foundation is crumbling - they refused to believe it. All the vloggers are switching and prompting the switch - what did they expect to happen?
  9. I know RED wasn't even going to come this year.... I remember Jarred saying something along those lines.... he had some other exhibition in mind - more gear related. Sony did its thing with the A9. I don't think anything else is coming.... not for awhile at least - this is just a prediction from me - but who knows, because Sony is mostly unpredictable. Panasonic also did their thing. BM - I know their slot was today at 9am - how long is the show? Is it finished already? And, nothing? Canon - very predictable - And, if 5Div + clog for $99 is it... then thats it. Don't care too much about Nikon - sorry.
  10. Do what I did... get the Mac Pro 2nd hand.... I got a 2006 Mac Pro.... I think version 1.1 for $300 barebones... and then I hacked the rest :D
  11. Here is a question for the ages... Because a lot us believe that if you use the same components as MAC or better; a PC would be equally as good or better than a MAC. Yes, certainly be better in terms of price. But, suppose we used crappy components.... I'm sure most of us had a PC or 2 with mediocre to crappy specs... Which would survive longer? MAC or Windows? No crashing, no freezing, continuous - solid - semi-workhorse - thats put through its paces?
  12. Let me just add Viruses, Worms, etc.created by some cruel programmer are also a threat. And, I've been meaning to add to the PC vs. MAC debate. I've been a Windows guy all my life, but even I admit the stability of MAC environments. So... for video and photos, I use a MAC - I also have it disconnected from the internet. For everything else to which I don't give a hoot about.... PC. Also... redundancy, back-up.... thats what most companies do.... For Disaster Recovery. So why not do the same at home?
  13. Pretty soon, the people of the republic of North Korea, I mean the people of the republic of the United States, I mean the people of the United States will start believing everything coming out of DT's mouth.
  14. You don't get it? See you are cherry picking and want everything to be done without consequences. You want this, but don't want that... what are you between the age of 2 and 5 years old? See the price of RED cameras? I better get something better than a D810 if I am paying $30K for a camera, is what you should be saying. Have you seen a RED camera? Its a friggin brick with huge heat sinks.... again... if its designed like that and costs $30K... it better be better than a D810. Forget DXOMark scores... if I'm paying for a Arri or a RED, or even a Hasselblad/Mamiya/PhaseOne/Leica.... it better destroy and mash up Canon, Nikon or Sony to the point that they don't even exist in my realm of existence. If I'm paying $30K for a single camera it better be covered in diamonds and gold - simply for better resale value.
  15. I have a guy that does gimbal shots only for me... In any case, he doesn't even own a camera... the only thing he has is a Glidecam HD4000. 2/3rds of the time we give him a 7D and a 17-40 f/4... and he takes about 20 to 30 min. to balance the set up. And, off he goes... The way he focuses is by taking a picture (presses the shutter button) every once in a while... his files produces pictures in between the shots. If you are going to go this route, buying a HD4000, let me warn you... balancing is a pain... first time users will be spending half a day to balance. You get better with practice (but you have to be patient to do this in the first place) its like playing with a Rubix cube for me... after a while... I give up.
  16. I'm done with camera bodies till the 8K revolution is full on swing... But Im very interested in other stuff (lights, supports, lenses, laptops/PC, monitors, recorders, mics and speakers). May be there should be a sub forum for all deals and discounts.
  17. Speaking of Cinemartin - unlike the pessimistic users over at NFS. I bought a baseplate from them (a couple months back)... very honest and happy go lucky peeps... and being one of the first from redusers to buy a baseplate... they added an extra set of 15mm rods for free. Would I buy from them again - yes. Would I recommend them - yes. Would I buy this particular product ($99 monitor) - not interested at present time.
  18. Yeah, what others have said... Worry about post-production later, capture everything as best as you can now... then when you are editing you can worry about luts and effects later. Best way to learn is to have footage and a due date :D Goodluck.
  19. The one on the right. no wait, it's the one on the left. no no wait, it's definitely the one on the... left.
  20. I don't think that this will be anything but a studio setup. Cause he said it's an external sound card with USB connection. All in all, I think he can get by with 2 dynamic mics with variable pick-up patterns (cardioid, omni, super cardioid; you can google search that - their corresponding pictures are on the belt of every mic.) I think you can grab a couple of Senheissers from your local music store. You might want to grab a couple of mic stands too.
  21. Whats low budget? Meaning give us a price range. And, does the sound card provide phantom power? This question will automatically eliminate condenser mics from your list, if the answer is no...
  22. Number 1 & 5. Currently I don't have any ND filters, so time of day matters (never high noon). If you have to know the process. Start at manual M & 180 degree, ISO 100 and open aperture to fullest. If its too dark, start increasing ISO, if its too bright start dialing down the aperture. The usual stuff. Then I start playing with WB.

    Film School

As I grow older, I find that this is true in any industry not just film. Getting a degree is only part of the equation... but experience is a larger part... If you are planning a career in film... start building that portfolio.
  24. +1 Like he said. I would really consider the audience too. I understand that we love topics like cameras, lenses, framing, editing, etc. BUT, most these guys who are probably taking this course for an easy A... probably won't be interested in the stuff that we talk about daily. In my opinion, consider the audience and the time limit of the workshop. Then show enough to arose curiosity so they can learn all the other stuff on their own. If I was you, I would ask everyone what's their favorite movie, then get a consensus of one popular movie. Throw the trailer of that movie through projector (via YouTube) and breakdown the trailer... scene by scene. Make it interactive and at the end... tell them about camera, lens, lighting, composition, etc.
