It says it draws 20w so almost 5hrs on a 95wh battery. But apparently it depends on your format and setting and monitoring mode, for example that's probably with low power 720p monitoring  enabled.

You do not need to use a battery on the back if you're using the handle with a battery in the handle, that is what they meant.

And yes, it has a DC IN on the side as well.

All the RED cameras work this way (except RED One). There's a cable that attaches to the DC-IN port, with the other end being able to terminate in a V-mount, AB-mount, or I guess whatever you can make..
It's a solution that can be used for just about any camera that has a DC-in port

Ah, my type of shooting. My rig is still in the process. The NX1 is a beast for documentary (with its ois kit lens). But I do prefer having a pistol grip gimble stabilizer with it, just in case.
    - Samsung NX1 (with kit lens or 45mm)
    - Pistol grip stabilizer
    - Rode VideoMic Pro
    - Currently use a rented Sennheiser G3 with Zoom H6, but plan to switch to JuicedLink Little Darling (which acts as a recorder in itself with bracketed audio recordings) when it is released.

    Well...sort of. Yeah.

I STRONGLY urge anyone who has never shot a BMCC in RAW and then seen how far you can push the grade around in post to rent, borrow, whatever...TRY it. Just once or twice.
    It's a whole 'nuther world.
Like I said - my NX1 with the same lenses can NEVER match it. I can get them close usually...bot NOT if it requires a lot of creative work on the grade. The NX1 image - even being 4k - WILL break apart much faster.

I kind of hope you're trolling, but I feel compelled to respond anyway.
tl;dr: Nobody has been making any implied promises, and your suggestion had already been tried and failed before you posted it.
First of all, nobody is claiming to be working on super-duper secret projects. Everyone has been very clear that they are doing this for fun in their spare time. From what I have read, nobody is releasing much since there isn't much interesting to release. For what it's worth, there have already been results, in particular from Otto and Vasile. Both of them made no promises yet delivered exactly what they said they expected to do. Vasile claimed to have found how to increase the bitrate, and provided a video as proof. Yea he could theoretically have faked it, but I see know reason to think that at this point. Otto stated his intentions very clearly and his results have already proven useful to people who want to take videos of events longer than 30 minutes (as well as anyone who wants to investigate their camera further).
You got radio silence on your suggestions because people were already working on that and ran into problems that you did not address at all. In case it's too much trouble for you to actually read what people have already written, the issue was that if the camera app is killed it freezes the camera. It's hard to replace an app if you cannot even remove it. If you think you know how to prevent that, I would love to hear it. If you want "traction" in this discussion, try actually being helpful.
Regarding the DRIMeV SoC itself, I mostly agree with your educated guess. It is almost certainly the same die, and the ARM cores are 100% identical. Unfortunately that's not saying much at all since most modern ARMv7 cores are identical as far as the software is concerned. It's the details of other blocks that would determine whether or not the important components of the camera application run or not. I can't tell just from skimming the kernel source code.
It takes under 5 minutes to find and download the firmware update from Samsung's site. If you really don't have 5 free minutes in your life, I don't understand why you are wasting time criticizing people who have actually accomplished things and posted them here. If you are 1/2 as smart as you make yourself sound, it should take you less than an hour to unpack all the components of the firmware. I had never unpacked a firmware before, but it only took me two evenings to get all the major pieces out. The offsets, sizes, compression, and filesystems are almost all documented right here in this forum, so there is no excuse not to take a look if you really want to test an idea.
I totally agree that the ratio of people waiting with high expectations to the people working on it is rather high. The Magic Lantern forums are just like that on a larger scale, but that doesn't change what they have or have not done. You need to keep in mind that this forum is a community of filmmakers, not hackers (or even "photographers"). The point of this thread in the first place was to show interest in modifying a camera, at which I'd say it has admirably succeeded!
Finally, nobody cares that you're a busy person. So you like your HoloLens and want to play with it. Cool story. We're all busy people too, so suck it up and either contribute or go back to lurking. Sorry for the tone, but that's because I can never stand people who drop into discussions and claim that they could do it all better if they didn't have so many more important things to do, yet don't contribute anything useful.

Wow, a conversation about a new camera release has turned into arguments over ProRes licensing?
Kinefinity are actually a small unit in a huge Chinese astronomy imagery company, I'm sure they have all this stuff sorted.
Aside the negativity... this camera is a very compelling option which needs better worldwide support. I'm excited to see more of this camera soon.

SR reacted to Mattias Burling in My review of the JVC LS300
Ever since the first DSLR started shooting video there has been one dream, the functionality of a camcorder with the sensor and lens mount of a DSLR. All in an affordable package.
    This might be just that.

JVC has lended me the camera for a few weeks to try out. What Im mostly interested in is if:
Its as good as the specs makes it out to be. If it can be both a true Run n Gun camera and something for cinema. If it is the ultimate camera for vintage lens junkies Regarding the specs, here is what cought my eye.
MFT Mount S35mm Sensor 4K 4:2:2 HD Log Prime Zoom External Controls Built In NDs XLR
    First Impression
It is light and small but doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. I would say it feels just like theses DVX type camcorders always does. Not 5D rugged, but solid, maybe a bit more solid than a FS100.
Setting it up was super easy and intuitive, I mean its a camcorder... its great.. its like riding a bike
Getting all the features I want like zebra etc went fast, they where all exactly where you would suspect them to be.
The ND wheel feels nice, so does most of the controls and buttons. The audio wheels are clickless, thats a tiny complaint but no deal breaker.
The first lens I tested was a m4/3 12-42mm. Its the kit lens from my GFs GM1. It worked and surprisingly it only had some vignette at the long end in s35 mode. In other words its both a normal MFT zoom and a s35 wide angle.
It also turns out that there where sensor size stops between s35 and MFT!
I hate to say it, but thats all I have time for this first evening. First test and some downloadable J-Log will be up tomorrow.
    Meanwhile, here are some pics.

Just wait at least until 6th April :-) But I think the improvement will be significant. I just made few 120fps shots yesterday - those with shallow depth of field are very nice without any macroblocking... but others are where is everything is in focus are quite awful (especially in shadows). 80mbits are clearly not enough and it is most visible in 120 fps mode.

This is more along the lines of what I am working on. The bitrate mod that they did should be good for most. But I am diving deep into the fw, Still a good time away until my end shows any gains. But like I said a few posts ago the more I find the more excited I get. I can look at the mjpeg encoder cpp and see if things can me modded to allow a higher frame size. But again thats just adding to the list of things. But at least things have moved up! Maybe samsung will have an official word the more news of these mods get better known

By the way, I'd like to ask you all to NOT name the bitrate and let everyone download the file if they want to know it.
It would be an interesting thing to see how long you can keep it under wraps and only discuss "around it" but without naming it explicitly.
I have no way to enforce this [oops, I just realized I do :-) and you know it too] but I do ask you to play by this rule, at least until I am back.

I probably should have stayed away from this topic, but I found the article so utterly revolting that I just couldn't help myself.  Its difficult to even begin a thorough critique, and I'm not going to do it here.  Suffice to say that he relies almost entirely on non-standard,  non-optical terminology (e.g., 3D, tonality, micro contrast, flat), and he never bothers to define these terms in a precise and unambiguous way.  Lenses can be fully characterized by things that are well-defined and can actually be measured, such as MTF, veiling glare, distortion, transmission vs. wavelength, etc..  Why rely on pseudo-scientific nonsense when proper characterization methods are well established?  He then goes on to show images that supposedly illustrate his points, but none of the images are actually carefully done comparisons under fixed lighting conditions, post processing,  etc., so they are absolutely worthless as far as I'm concerned.  He also makes a bunch of ternary diagrams that make absolutely no sense at all - "line of realism"??? WTF???  And his obsession with the number of elements in a design is absolutely bizzare.
