Let me be a voice of Peace and understanding
I believe Daniel was not attacking Luca's design or glass... He was referring to the fact that if you have a canon EF mount camera and want to use a old FD lens there is a "Shitty" glass adapter you have to buy to make it fit. And it was notorious for making the FD lenses less sharp and a stop or so less light.
I believe thats why in the 5D MK2 Revolution days everyone was getting old Nikon glass because you didn't need a adapter with "Shitty"glass($30) to make it fit.

This has nothing to do with Luca's design its just one of the negatives in EF mount's design
maybe back in the late 80's canon did this on purpose to force everyone to buy new lenses? Fake News? Tin foil hat?

I spent a while reading and watching that Steve Yedlin Argument this inspired me to this experiment
So I was just messing around the other day and decided to shoot 1080p on my NX1 and found myself  Fiddling with the bitrate hack which I usually leave on 140-160 mbps
Was curious so I started messing with the bit rates and typed in 400mbps and got denied kept dropping down in increments of 10 until it allowed 320mbps
I took it out shooting and the camera didn't skip a beat with audio + Autofocus with both S lenses. was shooting for around 40min and the only thing I could tell was when you pulled the SD card out right after shooting it was a bit a little warm.
I also Shot some 120fps @320mbps and it would only go about 30 sec before failing... I dropped it down to 300mbps and it recorded continuously I just stopped it after 3 min...

Perhaps its wishful thinking but I do "feel" the image is somewhat "thicker" is this basically like shooting 4k 160 and outputting to 1080 and rez up  4k again?

First shot is the "Raw" File
Second shot is a Grade I was trying to make match/cut with this frame. ( I failed the shot is much more blue than mine)

Third shot is 120fps @320mbps played back @ 20% speed

I uploaded the bike shot Raw out of camera if you wish to mess with it. I have no pro scopes or calibrated monitor to see is there is any advantage to this let me know your thoughts and or findings (about 160mb)

Camera will only do reliably 140mbps with autofocus + audio + lens stabiliser.
So far I never seen anyone do a proper test with 140mbps vs 250mbps or 300mbps.
I was thinking about doing one but since you practically have to disable everything in order to shoot above 200mbps, it was never worth it for me.
I would suggest if you tried yourself, go find something with lots of contrasts, and then do 140mbps, 160mbps, 200mbps, 250mbps and 320mbps if you can get  it working that fast.
Then start pulling some shadow to and zoom in on the details, I got the Lexar Professional 2000x, if you cannot do this I might spare some time and try.

If you plan on getting a faster SD card, look at this review, Lexar is still the King but Toshiba is catching up, SanDisk is awful reliability issues.

Hi mate, your file it's 62Mbit/s!
For nice footage you need to minimize the cpu.
Use this setting: 1) Turn off the audio. 2) setting all manual mode. 3) UHD 24Fps. 4) 250Mbit/s. You Can shoot for about 1 minute.
    I wait your response.

I am using the Zeiss 50mm f1.7. But I didn't have done any tests so far. Tried only short and results were looking good. I am at holiday for this moment and left the NXL at home. I took my anamorphic lenses only.

Juxx989 reacted to Andrew Reid in Installing the hack
The original creator's instructions are in the Readme.txt file as part of the download (links below), all credit goes to the hack dev. You must read this before installation. However I thought I might summarise how to get started here in a sticky post to save searching for help (if you need it) in the long threads.
    PREPARE CAMERA
    1. Ensure fully charged battery
    2. In the main menu, ensure Auto Display off = 5 minutes and Power Save = 10 minutes
    3. In the main menu, ensure Touch Operation = on
    4. Ensure firmware is version 1.41 for the NX1 (you can view this in the main menu under the option Device Information). If older, update firmware according to Samsung's instructions online or via Wifi in the camera menus.
    5. Format a memory card in-camera
    6. Turn off bluetooth and wifi, set mode dial to M
    PREPARE THE NX-ON-WAKE PATCH
    1. From the following link download nx-on-wake.zip https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/blob/master/nx-on-wake/nx-on-wake.zip
    2. Extract all files in nx-on-wake.zip to the ROOT directory of your SD card.
    3. Insert the SD card into the camera, turn on the camera and wait
    4. A touch screen menu appears to enter a "Magic Number". This is in the Readme.txt, to ensure you have read it. Please look at that document carefully for the 6 digits. I found "357669" but check to see if different.
    5. Message "Thanks, preparing the ground" will appear and the display will go blank momentarily. Green light begins to flash...
    WAIT AT LEAST 5 MINUTES
    6. Leaving the camera powered on, pull the battery out and wait 10 seconds, then put the battery back in.
    WAIT AT LEAST 4 MINUTES
    7. Turn off the camera using the power switch.
    8. Pull the battery, wait 5 seconds and put the battery back in. Turn on the camera.
    9. Look at the green LED, you will see it blink 4 times (one long and three short blinks), to confirm everything went ok.
    10. Turn off the camera and remove the SD card.
    INSTALL THE MAIN HACK
    1. Download nx-patch.zip from https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/tree/master/video-bitrate-mods/nx-patch
    2. Delete the all the nx-wake related files and folders from the SD card
    3. Extract the nx-patch zip and place everything in the root directory of your SD card
    4. Insert card into camera, turn on the camera and wait for the 'Please wait, installing...' message and for it to do its thing
    5. Hack should now be activated, turn off/on camera and you can enter the hack menus by rapidly double-pressing the LCD illumination button on the NX1
    6. In the hack menus (double-press LCD illumination button), you can select bitrates, and change Pro1 from 80 to an even higher value like 160
    7. Press the "Make persistent" option to save any modifications so they remain on the camera at next cold boot
    8. Please make sure you have the fastest possible SD card for Pro bitrate 4K recording (80Mbit to 160Mbit). Happy shooting!

You cannot compare these two, the NX1 wins hands down, its using Samsung famous autofocus technology they put in their smartphones.
What happens is that the NX1 focuses after eyes, its got some extremely intellectual computing going on were it focuses after eyes, I done some insane shit with this camera and I never lost focus that it did not recover from quickly.

Hi guys! New user here from Italy. Next week, after many thoughts, I'm going to have the NX1 and I'm pretty excited. This forum was critical to my final decision and I have to thank you for all the opinions and settings that you've posted through all these years about this amazing camera.
I've just found a short movie from Vimeo filmed with the NX1 and I think it looks great (sadly I don't know the author's settings).

Yeah, but I'm unsure why they believe it needs to be 4K? 2.5k in 24 as 60p would be a fine upgrade for the Pocket and would quench most people's needs for the next couple of years.

Juxx989 reacted to Edwin Cheng in Small HD DP4 Still Legit in 2017? vs IKAN DH5
Hi Juxx I have the small HD with loupe. I've not used other monitors but judging from specifications it does seem a little dated in terms of the features. No scopes, native resolution 800x480, focus assist (rather than peaking).
At the time when I bought it my thinking was to shoot a short movie and I was looking into having a rig with cage and follow focus along with rods, so the loupe seemed to fit in with that theme. The dp4 with loupe mounted is quite big... Later I discovered that this style of filmmaking was not for me, I wanted something more agile, lightweight, run and gun style. I found that the monitor itself can still fit the bill, being relatively small in size at 4.3". It is a bit more real estate than the LCD screen that is built in to your average camera so I find that it does help with framing, and focus assist is good enough.

As far as I understand, the Neway CT500HO is an OEM Ikan DH5e and you can have it for almost your budget in PV Deals.
I am actually looking at that option or saving some more money and go for the SmallHD Focus, since it has a couple of attractive features for me like the anamorphic desqueeze or LUTs.

The intro text at the very beginning just states that it's called 'Red Mirage,' that he used the Red Dragon 6K and NX1, the model's name, that it was edited in Final Cut Pro X...

    Then starting from about 3:20...
"The Crane/Crane V2 dual-handle kits were sold out, so this video was shot with one hand on the gimbal and the other holding an LED light.
A Manfrotto LED with an internal battery was used, and it was shot with the NX1 and a 12-24 wide-angle lens. (This was the outside spinning shot).
The opening was shot with the Red Dragon 6K at 6144 X 2592. The lens was a Tokina cine lens.
Outside of the opening, all the shots were with the NX1 on a one-hand gimbal crane (the Zhiyun Crane) or on an Edelkrone slider.
The Red Epic Dragon and NX1 that were used for filming."

So, in short, the inside opening was the Red Dragon, and it seems all the outdoor shots were with the NX1. Not bad! I'm glad I picked one up used a couple weeks ago...
