PannySVHS reacted to Django in Canon EOS-R8, EOS-R50 And New Lenses Announced
Broadcast cameras maybe not, but broadcast lenses they've done for over +60 years and the real mojo when it comes to video/film is in the lenses in my opinion (camera bodies and technology evolves every 6 months..):
GH series brought affordability to the market.. well initially at least!

Pro job! Would love some z6 8bit stuff in the good old artsy fartsy gh2 style. It's always easier for me to ask than going out and film and edit some myself:) @FHDcrew

I don't know man I think it looks great. Looks very organic and the colors look vibrant. I think it is a winning combination.

I wanted to share this recent project with you guys! Also I guess this counts as a face reveal lol. Shot entirely on a Nikon Z6 with the Tamron SP 45mm 1.8! NLOG graded in Davinci Resolve. Some footage was shot using the Ninja Star, others the Ninja V. Most of the footage was shot using the oversampled 1080p mode I spoke about earlier in this thread; the AROLL was definately shot in this mode. Just wanted to share, because one I want to share some of my work and what I do here, and two I wanted to give a good example of what this camera can do in 2023!

PannySVHS reacted to mercer in What OG cams you got your eyes on going into 2023?
Other than a quick test of an early eos-m ml build, the 50D was my first real foray into Magic Lantern Raw and the image was amazing. It was the first time I was getting an image I was pleased with after putzing around with cameras for a couple years.
That said, the 50D has a ton of limitations which include overheating, the LiveView freezing at will. Usually the fix was as simple as shutting down the camera and ejecting the battery, but it became a major pain. Also the lack of audio made the camera kinda unusable for any real production because you kinda need a scratch track, at least, to synch audio from an external recorder.
So, if you just want to mess around with ML Raw, then yes for the price, it's a great camera and an amazing feat since Canon's original firmware didn't even offer video.
But if you want to shoot with ML Raw and have zero issues, the 5D3 is king. The 5D2 is also nice with a slightly different color science than the Mark III and also not too expensive.
Beware though, if you're anything like me, and you get a 50D, you'll be selling everything else and saving up for a 5D3 very soon.

Many great cameras out there!
Especially for video. There is no argument about it.
Having seen almost everything in the last 3 decades, the value for money we are getting right now is unbelievable.
Ask me for any camera in the market, and I can tell you 5 things that it does amazingly well that you couldn't even do 10 years ago..
Just embrace and enjoy!

Guess I would rather keep my S1 instead of selling it for a S5II. Looking forward to see more videos on that. Thanks for pointing out! @Beritar

i've seen so many of your posts where you're unable to decide on which camera to choose. i dont think suggestions are of much use to you tbh. Just show an example of a video you've made, and show 1 example of a video that you would like to achieve, maybe it'll be easier to help you that way.

PannySVHS reacted to herein2020 in Canon EOS-R8, EOS-R50 And New Lenses Announced
No I didn't just go by what Andrew said, I looked at it for myself, and the R8 is missing the back wheel around the joystick which I use on literally every single shoot, they moved the photo/video switch to the left side which means I would need to let go of my side handle to flip the switch vs the R7 which is on the right side and right under my thumb allowing me to instantly switch from photos to quick video clips during events, and last but not least it is even smaller and lighter than the R7.
When shooting video handheld I like big heavy cameras, the bigger and heavier the better for stability especially since Canon has IBIS wobble problems with wider lenses. The R7 with a cage and side/top handles is the perfect size for me, big enough to easily rig heavier but small enough to quickly strip down to a gimbal camera.
I never use the touch screen to focus, that would mean I would need to take one hand off of the camera and touch the screen. I stick to center cross hairs and keep both hands on the camera. The R5, R7, and C70 all have a back wheel which I use to quickly adjust the aperture or shutter speed without letting go of the camera. Only my Canon Rebel doesn't have a back wheel and for that camera I don't care since it is just a timelapse camera.
So yes, I did reach my own conclusions that the R8 is not as ergonomically friendly to my specific shooting style as the R5 or R7 and is closer in ergonomics to my Canon Rebel.
I will never get a camera with a single card slot when dual card slots are available on so many cameras. Many more things can happen to footage vs just the card going bad or the camera stopping the recording. I shoot event work and most of my customers re-hire me year after year, all it would take is one year of lost footage for them to hire someone else leading to much more lost revenue than the cost of getting dual slots. Computers can get infected with viruses that wipe out your footage, if you are transferring the raw footage onsite with the client their computer could be infected, or their card reader could fry your card, etc. etc. None of this has happened to me but I have had a few clips disappear in the middle of a project (possibly accidentally deleted or overwritten) and I have used the second card to get it back. With equipment being so good these days sometimes the only thing separating the professional from the beginner is the level of preparation for when things go wrong.
When I need multiple cameras for a project I pair the R7 with the R5 or C70, if I had to buy an additional camera body tomorrow then I would just buy another R7. If your budget is $3K and you need two camera bodies then I would recommend two R7s, that way they can share batteries and accessories, menus and ergonomics are identical, etc. I just really don't see what the big deal is about shooting FF or non-line skipped 4K60FPS. RS doesn't bother me since I don't shoot fast action.
As I mention in many of my posts, these are just my opinions, my workflow, and what works for me, in today's times, there's something for everyone.

DJI Osmo Pocket/Pocket 2 with the anamorphic adapter is a decent option for holidays.
Tiny, great stabilisation, looks half decent and has a lot of creative/practical options built in like panoramas and tracking etc.
Also easy to share stuff from it through the phone app for social media if thats your thing.

Mini Hdmi, no IBIS, great AF for video, FF 4K60, no RAW out, for 1799EUR
vs
Full HDMI, IBIS, great AF for video, S35 4K60, RAW out for 1999EUR
I would take the second one for my needs. I never owned the 1DXIII:)

PannySVHS reacted to herein2020 in Canon EOS-R8, EOS-R50 And New Lenses Announced
At the end of the day you are right...tons of economical options; but this is an R8 thread so it is still interesting to see different people's perspectives on Canon's latest release. My final verdict is that its an ok camera at its price point, but not the best fit for my needs even at its price point since the R7 is at the same price point.
For me specifically, the FF sensor comes with too many compromises and those compromises are more important to me than the sensor size. If I absolutely had to purchase a FF body today right now I would get the R6II; if price was more important to me then I would get the S5II, there is just no scenario for me where I would get the R8.
Most if not all of the used options on your list don't have useable AF which is far more important to me than sensor size. In a year when you can get the R6II, R8, and the S5II at a decent used price then used will look at lot more attractive.

PannySVHS reacted to So Ros in Canon EOS-R8, EOS-R50 And New Lenses Announced
I think for the Canon users who are in need of this camera, they should definitely buy it as it suits them. What works great for you doesn’t work for everybody here.
Same for the non-Canon filmmakers out there that need a cam or an extra cam, there are tools out there right now for cheaper prices. For less then $1500 you can get a “used” XT3-4/OG S5/S1/Gh5s/bmpcc4k/6k/sigma Fp/Fx30. So many good options out there right now, buy one that suit your needs.

Made tests and thinking of shooting on the BMMCC (maybe with Zeiss 16s lenses) on a low budget feature film instead of the Bmpcc6k/4k or Red Epic MX/Scarlet MX.
Do you consider it to be crazy in 2023?

PannySVHS reacted to Kisaha in Canon EOS-R8, EOS-R50 And New Lenses Announced
Another pub type discussion, sans the nice ales you get there and the smelly carpet!
The people that need IBIS, won't buy this camera. The people that are happy with APS-C won't..but people that need amazing full frame performance and IQ in the least price new, WILL! You will be surprised to learn how many there are!
This is a 1500$ release, whatever that's translated to your country.
Right now, R6mkII is 3.200€ in my E.U country, the R8 will be probably 1750-1.800€, the analogy will be similar in any country, a significant increase in final price. 3.200 - 1.800 = 1.400€ difference. That is huge..
Not everyone just buys whatever cameras are out there. This is madness..Canon offering such a quality with Clog3 to connect all the dots is unheard of..
I gave you some sales figures also, RP is super successful and popular, the R8 arguably is a much better and more modern camera. Success!
For me it will be a great addition to my collection of cameras. Yes, I wish I could afford the R6mkII, but my next purchase won't be the money maker, so I have limited funds to invest, meanwhile, I still will be able to use it on some projects additionally to my other cameras. Priceless..

PannySVHS reacted to gt3rs in Canon EOS-R8, EOS-R50 And New Lenses Announced
Are you serious?
We should compare to cameras that may be released in the future and thus we should be here saying that is meh release because it will be surpassed in the future?!? Because you, alias Nostradamus 🙂, thinks that in 6-12 months there will be (and I actually hope so) better cameras in this class?
But yes if you remove the super sampled 4k with no crop 24-60p, the great AF, the fast still fps, the 10 bit log, the good rolling shutter, the hybrid hot shoe, it is a crappy release... but guess what great AF and great 4k 24-60 image with AF is what many people want.
I have also a prediction then, with the "next 6 to 12 months camera on the same price brackets" people can take artifacts free, rolling shutter free and noise free image, by using 0 space on the card compared to the R8 because it does not exit 😁
You don't like canon and is fine but I really don't get what is your contribution here as it not facts based and only hypothetical future predictions that does not help anybody that needs a camera today.
Canon has changed a lot on the video side and most of the new release have really good video capacity with great AF:
C70 4k RAW
R5 8K RAW, 4k 120
R5c 8K RAW 60P with Cinema OS
R3 6K RAW 60p
R6, R6 II, R8 super sampled 4k 60 10bit CLog 3
R7 super sampled S35 4k 60 10bit CLog 3
Times are changed from the Canon that was not innovating and holding back tons of features on the video sides. Are these camera perfect no, are their competitive in their respective price bracket yes. Just a few years ago RP and R where really meh released for video.
The fact that a 1500$ gives you most of the feature that the others much more expensive cameras give you is the good story. And let's not discuss on the stills side that for the sports/actions photographer a R8 will do better in many scenarios than 6k$ 1Dx III (and I owned the 1Dx III)

PannySVHS reacted to mercer in Z9 on test - N-RAW no better than H.265?
@Andrew Reid Interesting test. A few moons ago, I briefly owned the a6500 shortly after I sold my first BMMCC, and I was surprised at how juicy the sLog3 files were. I felt they were the closest to raw video that I had seen. And when shot with the monochrome setting, in sLog3, the banding that plagued those 8bit sLog cameras seemed to disappear. So I'm not too surprised how well the A1 holds up against the competition.
I recently bit the bullet and bought an FP. I've been having some fun shooting with it, but I also find it to be a miserable camera in some ways. Due to its size, I want the camera to stay small and stealthy, but I think that was the design flaw with the camera. If Sigma had just made the camera a bit bigger and allowed for internal 12bit, 4K raw, I never would have missed the smaller size and the overall experience would have been better. Like your disdain for external monitors, I despise external SSDs just as much, especially when only a select few have proven to work with the FP. That said, it's a really nice image and I am enjoying using my Minolta lenses with it.
But at the end of the day, I don't know if it's much better than my 5D3. Sure it has higher resolution and doesn't need specific lenses to get a really sharp detailed look, but I believe the overall IQ from my 5D3 beats the FP and the cameras are a bit too similar in a lot of ways to keep both.
With all of that said, I've noticed you mention the XH2 recently and am very intrigued. I'd be curious to see how the ProRes holds up in this test if you have the time or inclination.
I've only recently gotten my FP rigged up to where I feel comfortable using it, so I want to test it a bit more... maybe with a short film or something, but unless something really clicks, I may have to look elsewhere for an upgrade. The XH2 is interesting, but so are some of the Canon offerings... R5, R5C and of course the R3 which I doubt I'll ever be able to afford.
Thanks again for the test and I hope all is well with you and your family!!!

PannySVHS reacted to newfoundmass in The great AI content theft debate
Indeed, there are quite a few troubling signs when it comes to AI and the way it will be used in the future. To me, there is a lot of promise in AI as long as it's used as merely a TOOL or aid to the person. It's disappointing, but not at all surprising, that it is being viewed as a replacement for the person completely.
