  1. I wish they had added Prores. Braw does not allow playback on usual players such as Vlc.
  2. Apple should rename their phone to Iphone SRV.😊 For me a LG V40 or 60 or a Xiaomi Mi10 with Mcpro24fps would be perfect to replace my old phone. Image quality in this video looks similar to GH5 in good light. Don't know how much beating the codec can take in grading. Will see some time next year when I'll get a "new" used phone. The video below also reminds me that a visually pleasing well shot video of lush sites and vistas can still be boring to me.:)
  3. When i graded with directors at my side almost all gave great input elevating my work in a substantial way for the narrative and the quality of work itself. But it was only fun and to the good of work when they had a understanding und emphathy for the passion and quirks i am embodying sometimes when i burn for a project. When a director is not appreciative of the process it loses all its magic and the project better be paid well enough. The shots above look good enough to not to invest too much work on them.:)
  4. I just started "This is England 90". Love the characters of the whole series 86, 88 and 90. I liked the film but I love the show. Great direction, stellar acting and characters. After I'm done, which will be a sad moment, I will revise the film again. The series is already one of my absolute personal favorites now. I will reread Andrews whole article now on Shane Meadows and the legendary BMCC. https://www.eoshd.com/creative-filmmaking/renowned-british-filmmaker-shane-meadows-shoots-jake-bugg-music-video-blackmagic-pocket-cinema-camera-bmcc/ A beautiful, proud achievement of director and author Shane Meadows and his Co director and the whole team and ensemble. The whole thing is showing on the streaming site of franco-german tv arte: https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/RC-024379/this-is-england/ Shane Meadows is still planning on doing a final segment set at the turn to this millenium. I hope they will give him green light for this some time soon.
  5. Hpx500😂 I meant in the form factor of a Hpx250:) @IronFilm There are no 3x2/3 sensor cams in that compact size. Next thing would be single consumer 1inch cams like sony ax1000 or uber expensive pro models. Hpx 500 sensors in a 250 body would have been perfect and would be highly affordable now on the used market. Dvx200:) 8bit but a bit beefier codec than a GH4 with 150mbit in 4k, same crop in 4k like the GH4, making it a 1inch sensor cam in that mode irc. Don't know about the HD quality. For me just stellar 10bit Hd up to 50/60 with 3x 2/3 sensor magic in a EX1 or Hpx250 body would be my vintage dream cam. My LX10/15 has 2/3 sensor estate in 4K and i am loving the DOF characteristics at f2.8. It's like S35 at F8.
  6. EX1/3 have exactely that, 3 CMOS sensors, 1/2 inches each @zlfan 😊 Still cool cams. Really like the EX1's ergos and lens with nice zoom and focus rings and servo zoom lever. Despite in a 10bit container, output over SDI is still only giving 8bit colour. Don't know if true 422 or not. Pana HPX250 is definitely a cam i wanna try. A 2/3 inch sensor version of it with interchangeable lenses... Nerds have different wants than other people:) A 100mbit AF100. Love the body and the huge eye piece of that cam. GH5II sensor and codecs in a AF100 body. Dreamcam. Nerds are weird.:)
  7. Hehe, EX1/3 don't have CCDs @zlfan 🙂 Smiling, because I had been thinking that for a while. But their 3 sensor imager does some nice things. Codec can be brittle though sometimes, some 35mbit mpeg2 flavour. From my little experience, the EX1 and 3 are as good in lowlight as a GH2. EX3 looked fabulous on Monsters, for which S35 adapters were used and Nikon glass I think. There is a nice BTS on youtube, maybe even the film. Btw, Philipp Blooms colours on the EX1 or 3 look much, much better than his grading attempts on the Fs7, F5, etc. 😂 The HPX250 comes with Pannys 100mbit 10 bit 422 codec, some alteration even with the monster 200mbit All Intra. Unfortunately it is not a 3 2/3 inch imager but much smaller, around 1/3. There are no 3 sensor 2/3 camcorders in this form factor. Would have loved a HPX250 with 3 2/3 sensors. I have been fascinated by 3 sensor cameras for a long time for their colour output and have been tempted to get a HPX250. It would be my Andromeda DVX100 substitute.😊 You were not to buy any camera, new or old! @IronFilmNeither should I.😂
  8. Watched the movie because of Andrews article a few years ago. Now watching the TV Show and I'm remembering Shane Meadows being mentioned on my favorite video, filmmaking and gear blog for using the BMCC. I am at part three of This is England 88. The Blackmagic episodes gonna follow after that. Cannot wait, old school gem BMCC on a gem of a show! Minis series ist the right term. What an awesome it is.
  9. I would go for a Lumix S5II, which is much cheaper. Or a FX30. Both sport nice 4k60 in Apsc and the former offers additionally up 4K30 in full frame.
  10. It's super nice and highly educating to read about all the different alterations of Red bodies and sensors. To read about Geoff Boyle is a very beautiful thing @IronFilm He was one major inspirations to me with his hands on attitude and to the point avdices he shared on his forum and in various interviews and videotaped:) workshops. I remember his evaluation of the Varicam. I remember him very dearly as one of the most impactful and supportive public figures of the arts and craft of cinematography. The original post of this thread has been narrowed down by og poster to be privately filming landscapes with 60min of footage per trip. A S1H will be perfect for that or a used S5. But you can of course buy a Red package for the amount of money you wanna spent and share your findings with us and maybe some of your filmed and edited material. Looking forward to it. Or get an Amira, if your hobby is worth to you a dime or two. @Jedi Master
  11. Seems like my temptation to buy any Luts is still lower than my urge to save money, even moreso after your message is rather calming any desire to purchase anything for even the most little amount of pennies. 😂 @TomTheDP
  12. The quality of posts in this thread is not necessarily equivalent to the quatity. Dropping youtube videos without any lovely written expression of soul, heart or mind is kinda wordless and to me worthless for a forum. But maybe that is just because of the shiny new product. Older tech ist dicussed with much more love and passion.
  13. Hey, would rather recommend to upload it to youtube or vimeo. People might be hesitant to download from a private website.:) Also, screenshots sometimes awake interest. cheers GH3 should grade wonderfully with its 50mbit codec. I enjoyed grading G6 and G7 footage. 709 8bit classics.:)
  14. We aint old but appreciating old school, new school, just learning and enjoying the greats and less greats, the failures and the braveness of filmmakers who live and breathe film by heart and soul through their lungs like a deeply inhaling, practicing shaolin monk. @Emanuel
  15. In what regards would that be compared to the blackmagic app? cheers and thanks Why not, like kye suggested, going 0 USD for the Blackmagic app instead?:) @Andrew Reid
  16. Great input on the business side of operator-ownership! @IronFilm Even though your friend knew his stuff super well, it didnt prevent him from one of our and my biggest lacklusters, GAS, which even hinders creativity as @John Matthewshas pointed out in another thread. I didnt shoot anything meaningful this year and have been hiding behind lower end color grading gigs. That Varicam LT story is perfectly illustrating temptation and consequenes going along with purchases. It's also beautifully written. Thank you😊
  17. Would love to check out a BS1H and a FX30. @IronFilm But that is just nerdom. And you already made me buy the awesome Cinealta F3 which I only have done test shots with so far.:) BS1HII with an inhouse clickon monitor like Red and a cooler name please.:)
  18. But Emanuel, I was just honest. Any GH2 filmer from back then put more skill AND talent into their films. I could give a plus for running so quickly behind and infront of cam, but that's about it. Kye must be laughing like a gone mad colorist seeing how they broke the colour into Nintendo Green Lantern realms, if there ever was a bad game of the overly bad Christoph Waltz flick, based on a 60ies Bruce Lee TV show, where the upcoming superstar was the sidekick and main attraction, paling the main protagonist. Just to throw around a bit with love for popcultural references. Green lantern was a solid comic at first, was'nt it. The Munich video is not solid, nor done in the conciousness of pop, but a dull case of copycat showoff mediocracy.
  19. I would take Ironfilms exellent advice. Of the two i would go for the FX6. Highly popular and exellent camera. As mentioned above, it is perfectly accepted by clients in the doc field. If you want to make or keep making a living with doc, FX6 all the way. If you want a camera for labours of love with beautiful Canon Raw and the exellent colour coming from the Dual Gain sensor, C70. I bought my S1H from a docfilmer who does 45 - 60min docs for German TV. He upgraded to a FX and is super happy.
  20. The zeiss 35 f2 on full frame is.:), making bokeh too strong imo. The camera movements and motion look organic to me.. Best bangforbuck? No..
  21. Colors looked like a overly graded GH1, muddy bloody hell. I had to stop the video after the 1st half. Why? Please don't ask. Too many things.😅 But thanks for posting, so we can reflect on it.
  22. Late 2023 cameras. Z9 is not 2023:) So my cams are mostly the same, not from 2023 but to me relevant as of late 2023. Photo: Lumix gm5, gx85. Nuff said, classics in many reagards. GM for its magnificient Bauhaus Design, GX for its overall tactility and looks. Love the rawfiles from these beauties. Video: Lumix S1H , which I better use for photo as well with its awesome, though not 2023, sensor. LX15 for its quirks and the challenge of working with them and enjoying that experience so much, results in photo and most the time video as well. The rendering of that lens is a thing of beauty. Dust alert behind the lens elements though after real world usuage. Bmmcc and og Bmpcc, color grading galore gems. Alliteration where it belongs.:) Cinealta freaking Sony F3, the image wonder marvel.
  23. I plan to primarily use it with McPro24 for 10bit log, Motioncam rather as a luxury for raw cinema vignettes and image quality galore.:) I must say I was really impressed by some of the results i achieved with my Lumix LX15 i 8bit 4k. But under vety few conditions it looked like video no matter what grading trick i tried to pull off. Its raw files in photo mode have been a great joy to play with too. The M10 has a 1/1.33 sensor which equals a 2/2.6 sensor which is a tiny bit larger than the LX15 in its 4K mode, being about 2/3 inch sensor gate. So the M10 seems pretty tempting for its price. Buch better battery life too than a Bmpcc.😊
