Cool review - but please don’t use the word ‘retard’. It’s cruel and unnecessary.

Agreed about the close ups. Any smaller scale formats really shine in this setting. The extreme being Super 8 or Polaroid film. Portraits on polaroid look like they've already been airbrushed.
On the discussion of 16mm. Stuff I have shot with the Bolex has just been the most rewarding for me. The colors, skin tone, and overall feel are very hard to replicate.
I think someone saying they can easily copy the 16mm look with filters, is the same as saying the GH5 can look like an Alexa or a F35. I suppose there's different traits that people would to copy. To some people that would mean analog inconsistency; film burns, grain, jumping gate, etc. There is a huge difference in the film stocks alone.
These first two frames are 1080p scans on the Shadow. This is a 10+ year old scanner. The 3rd frame is a 4k scan from a Scan Station. This is just cheap c-mount glass. I've n ever used Zeiss on a bolex, but I am sure the results would be very nice.
I've never seen this but the trailer looks good. I'll be checking that out this week.

BenEricson reacted to Dave Maze in Don’t forget about Digital Bolex!
I was director and DP for a small budget commercial shoot yesterday and I chose the Digital Bolex as my camera of choice over the 1DC sitting in my bag.
I put it on the MoVI M5 for the first time and it was a ton of fun having a sexy global shutter while getting gimbal shots!
I honestly believe that if you light for it, the D16 creates some of the most stunning, rich colored footage I’ve ever seen.
I had the option to rent a full RED Dragon kit, but I CHOSE Bolex with MFT mount. Shot using the rokinon 12mm MFT lens on the gimbal to keep the weight down, and the rest shot on old Super 16 Zeiss Super Speeds PL’s. The 9mm and 25mm were my favorites.
I’m excited to put the edit together and show you what I got. All I can say after shooting with it all day yesterday is, it’s still a relevant camera for 2017 and creates stunning images that are truly unique.

XC10 is great, you just really need to test the limits of the camera. Obviously tricks like ETTR help a ton. C-LOG is clean and looked really good to me. I don't own the camera anymore but want to buy one again. It is just a really really fun camera to shoot with. Liberating coming from a very large camera. I would be curious what the new Wide DR profile looks like.
    Positives:
Really light weight, Very small/compact and discrete, High bit rate 4k images, great zoom lens, really nice auto focus, deep depth of field making exterior shots, etc, really easy to focus, that excellent Canon color.
    Negative:
1080 codec is weak, most of the internal profiles look pretty bad, lots of noise reduction - kinda mushy, lowlight is pretty bad, hard to achieve shallow depth of field with wide shots, expensive C-FAST cards only.
I would say for daylight shooting, this camera rules. Seems like a great stock footage camera, probably great on a Ronin or small SteadyCam.

I have never had any issues with BMD-log, Red-log, C-log, J-log, any log really. Accept S-Log. I can use it but it takes much longer.
Maybe one do need to spend fifty times longer learning it. But that sounds like really bad log in my ears.
To me it sounds just like when people defend Sonys weird white balance with having to learn it... thats like having to learn how to remove the lens cap. A simple and fundamental function that is super easy on all other cameras... Nah.. it sucks imo. Just badly done.
And I know some will be tempted to say that its me that sucks.. dont bother. If I can set a perfect WB on any camera in the world but sometimes struggle on the Sony, it sure isn't me that needs tweeking.

I'm an Apple guy, but I'm not too impressed by this new iPhone: I would love to buy an iPhone with a nice real tele lens, not an electronic one, in order to shoot better videos.
Anyway, nice design and very good for photos: it is not an 1DC, but I think it is good enough for every day pics...

C'mon @BTM_Pix, overheating is a feature...An important innovation, helping shooters to plan their takes carefully. It simply doesn't make sense nowadays to shoot Godfather IV in a single, continuous take. Overheating warnings are nothing but artistic reminders...

Intentionally or is that just the point at which it stops because its overheated like their other cameras?

The FS5 - FS7 cannot produce what the CineAlta can produce. I wish the FS7 had the F3 color. I own the F3 and love it, but have yet to see any FS7 footage that I have really liked.
This is more like what an average person actually gest with the FS5 and FS7.
I remember my studio going from the FS700/7Q S-Log 2 to the C300ii. The difference in color is absolutely insane. I would do HSL adjustments, tons of masks, etc, still couldn't get close to what the Canon can produce with just a LUT and a quick three way adjustment.

People want to knock this, but wow the images out of this camera are amazing. It's like getting Arri Alexa colors and feel with that auto focus and 4k/60p. Look at how clean that lowlight is in the first video. I bet this camera is so much fun to use. Lighter than the C300ii and internal raw.
I could see shooting interviews in 4k/8bit or 1080p 422 to a recorder and shooting the b-roll in raw.

"perspective" is only function of distance. You probably getting the same perspective as a 55 on a 35FF camera.

Ben, I am glad to hear you bought another one, your XC10 videos were amongst my favorite and they truly captured the spirit of this S16 digital camera. I still have the XC10 saved in my eBay search... just waiting for that price I feel comfortable with.
I keep chasing the XC10 form factor as well. I've had two FZ2500s and the RX10ii since I've sold the XC10. Both were cool cameras, but neither  are as unique as the XC10.
The FZ2500 has solid high bitrate, all-i 1080p, shutter angle, decent Touch AF and tracking, multi strength, body selectable NDs, internal zoom, slow/quick at the touch of a button. Even with all its strengths, it just isn't worth $1200 in my opinion.
The RX10ii I really liked as well, solid 4K image, okay 1080p at hfr, good preamps, sLog2 but both feel more like camcorders than S16.
That zoom through wide angle is a cool trick. I had one for my ZR60 back in the day.
I hope Canon continues to update the XC line. As is, it's a blast to shoot with, with a few refinements, it could be epic.

I couldn't take it and had to buy the camera again. So stoked to mess around with this camera again.
I found some cool footage shot with a wide angle today. When zoomed through it looks like you can achieve shallower depth of field as well. Around 4:26 the stuff shot with the Wide Angle.
