  1. @kidzrevil Thanks! Even though i liked the Pro Mist on my Olympus 25 i think the Sigma and Pro Mist made a better match.

It's funny how one looks for extreme sharpness in some lenses and it others not at all, i'm thrilled over that the Sigma and Speedbooster doesn't deliver 100% in that aspect!

  2. Even though i'm incredibly happy with my GH5 I'm hoping for a great year for Nikon, Fuji and Olympus. Unlike Sony, Canon and Panasonic they don't have a more expensive cinema-line to protect.

Imagine a Nikon FF mirrorless with 4k60 RAW recording and IBIS, that would stir some pots for sure.

This is going to be an amazing camera for people that shoot with rigs and gimbals etc.

its gonna suck for people like me who shoot handheld ?

Exactly how i feel. 95% of what i do is run and gun hand held so going back to warp stabilizer in Premiere, like the good ol G7 days, ain't happening. Lucky for us there's still the amazing GH5 and G9.

For its intended use, I'm sure the GH5s will be amazing.

Not sure I'm understanding correctly.... filmmakers use cameras. Colorists use LUTs. Some people rely on auto exposure. And?

And the approach to the whole "being a filmmaker" has changed since the GH2, not for all but for a lot of people. It feels like the majority of people who bought the GH2 with video in mind spent more time learning about the image and the tools to grade it than the majority of GH5 buyers do today. As a result Youtube is filled with GH5 stuff that looks meh.

Lets say you're 14 year old. You want to become a star like them other big Youtubers. But your concentration span is about as long as it takes for a Tesla to reach 60mph. What would you rather watch? "Learn the basics of cinematography - 10 parts, 1 hour each" or "INSTANT FILM LOOK IN 1 MINUTE, AMAZING RESULTS, EASY PEASY, JUST BUY THESE LUTS"

Nothing wrong in using LUTs, or auto features of a camera. But things have changed, just saying.

  5. Buy a GH5/80D/A7R, buy a couple of luts and you're a cinematographer. It's the dream being sold right now, and business is booming! Has there ever been so many selling their own LUTs and presets than now, with the promise of instant cinematic success? The idea that the latest gear and post production shortcuts being the most important tools for creation have never been so strong.

Don't know how i feel about it but that's where we are. Many are perfectly satisfied with buying the latest gear, auto exposure, auto white balance, auto focus, add m31 lut, export and upload. Because you know, that's how the big Youtubers do it.

Im guilty myself of getting the latest gear and shooting IBIS and slow motion demonstrations, but that's because i have GAS and can't control myself. Also, I have a life long obsession of finding the true meaning of "organic" and applying it to my own stuff.

  6. I've had my GH5 for about 3 months now and I'm loving the files i get from it, both standard profile and V-LOG L. When it's not working all rigged up (see picture at the bottom) it always stays in my messenger bag with just one lens, the Oly 25/1.2 which has become my all time favorite lens. Anyhooow, here's some random (as usual) shorts from every day life.

All rigged up. This setup has proven itself to be a very convenient run&gun solution!

After updating Premiere on June 13th with the 11.1.2 update GH5 10 bit 4K files now play properly in Premiere, however, there is an issue when changing the playback resolution. If the playback resolution is set to anything other than full then the playback does a weird scaling thing once it has been initiated. For instance: if playback is set to 1/2 or 1/4 resolution as soon as you press play the viewer which is set to fit will change to playing only the left-hand corner of the 4K image at 100% size in the viewer. So you just see this one section of the video which is no longer playing as though fit to the viewers size. Then once you stop it from playing it reverts back to being fit into the viewer.

People reporting the same on Mac and Windows

"The only thing you have to turn on is the "High Quality Playback" setting. Once that is on you can select different playback resolutions like 1/8 and it will reduce the quality and it won't zoom in."

Found this in a Facebook group but haven't tried it yet.
