Aren't the A7RII crop and the NX-1 native the same? I would expect very similar output from the two.

You guys just don't get it... This film is a disturbing social commentary on the American family and the human condition...
The mom "entering the fridge" is really symbolic for her addiction to crystal meth (ice). Notice how the family has to function more and more without her as her addiction gets worse? I didn't watch the ending (who could make it that far), but I like to think something really shocking (like GoT shocking) happened at the end, like maybe her pimp and drug dealer ends up executing her family one by one.

If it were me, I'd be hiring Kendry (for the same budget they spent on this mistake) and just let him do his thing.  Whatever he came back with at the end of a month would get people excited.  Not only what he did but how he shot it.
Heck, spend a day on Vimeo and you could track down hundreds of talented filmmakers.
This particular movie strikes me as the perfect example of a talent challenged film maker* devoted to the tech and the idea of making a movie --while not having enough well rounded artistic talent.  The film is amusing to me in the sense that It does illustrate how the fundamentals of making a good film has pretty much jack-squat to do with the camera.
*full disclosure: I consider myself as such so I recognize the limitations.

I find those setting the best balance between good skin tones right out of the camera and edit-ability. If you want a flatter image put the contrast at -5 and black level at +15. Don't drop the contrast any further though because the color banding and weird color gradients start appearing if you push it.

You referring to color science or bit depth? From what I've seen the nx has great color science.

Impressive on paper, but I see no skintones in the demo.

So basically this may be the D820 sensor or a modified version as they did for the 36.6 version  which means the upcoming high res shooter from nikon will FINALLY join the 4K times if nikon doesn't crippled it on purpose.
On the still sides the A7R didn't offer true uncompressed RAW files like the nikon D8XX does. This meant that although it was technically capable of similar quality, many reviewers picked apart sony's imaging pipeline and showed a noticeable advantage to shooting uncompressed raws with the D8XXX models. If sony did not add true uncompressed raw to the A7RII, I suspect the sensor will only shine on a D820 with Nikon's more quality oriented data pipeline, or in a future alpha body from sony.
On the high resolution game however, I'm still expecting the next leap to 70+. Both this camera and the 5DS only offer modest gains at best. Clearly sony has demonstrated they own the market in sensor technology so if anybody can, it is them.

My main concern is colour... I don't care what you say about s-log, luts etc... The colour on the a7s just isn't great. For cool colours, it is nice... For natural or warm colours it is a pain

I know people like to poke fun at Canon due to their seemingly underwhelming specs (myself included at times!) but for what its worth, during my 3 months or so with an A7s I found it slow, clunky, unreliable (crashed occasionally) and the battery life was of course terrible. I was always thinking about the camera. During my 6 months or so with a c100, the opposite was definitely true. Theres something to be said for cameras that "just work" and Canon definitely has that figured out.  
Hoping the a7rII brings an improvement in this area as it looks like a slick camera! 

All Sony needs now is a better lens lineup, improved battery life, and a good flash system and they'll decimate the competition. Though if your primarily video/portrait/landscape work, this cam is the end-all of image quality.

I'm sorry, but that looks terrible. Don't know what he did to the footage, but that is not the fault of the NX1. Before it is slowed down with twixtor there is some sort of weird interpolation going on with a "ghost" of the guy in front of him.

Nikon mount. Currently no great option for EOS lenses if you want aperture control. Nikon work on everything.

Dear Ed David, Domestic Abuse (accused domestic abuse) is not on the same level as rape. Not even close. Also bringing this thread back to the top does not bring down the forum, it brings to light your horrific comments, accusations, and topics. They show that you are not here primarily as a filmmaker but as a grandstanding attention seeker, that would rather attack others for their opinions than discuss them.
What do I think of the tape? That Emma is using her rape for personal, political, and financial gain. In that way I suppose she is the voice of her generation. Is rape horrific and terrible, yes it is. Should it be penalized more severely? YES. Should accused parties still be innocent until proven guilty and have the right to their livelihood not being ruined purely on a accusation? YES. Will I watch the video. NO.

"Dumb" films, now and then, are great for entertainment value. I am a fan of Mike Judge because his work says something. I am talking about those hailing Kung Fury as some kind of beacon for independent filmmakers- even, laughably- as the next Symphony No 40- when it says absolutely nothing new. Not one thing. I don't care what camera shot it on. I don't care if he shot it in his house. I don't care if it was crowdfunded or bankrolled by some real estate greaseball. It adds nothing of value to any conversation at all. Ex Machina at the least contributes to relevant issues- the increasing desire to make tech more human, tech role in society, mass data collection by companies, etc.
And I know it's a subjective argument, but in what world does the overcomposited Kung Fury look better than Ex Machina?

Movie was great and much better than most will accomplish in their life. Nothing is for everyone, but no one can deny the creative art and hard work put into the digital film, anyone who says otherwise is basically a reflection of themselves "Hater"...........
