  1. Usually VFX before the final grade pass. If it is shot in LOG, basic correction before VFX then final tweaks after. Usually the final part of the grade will help mask the effect.
  2. Ummmmm have you checked used NX1 prices recently ?
  3. I honestly would. It's everything that camera is with a few less megapixels and the A9 AF. I'm hoping to sell my A7r II for it, but this will kill it's resale value. The dual card slots and joystick are totally worth it, and the RS from that sensor is supposed to be superior compared to my A7r II. It's seriously a near flawless camera. Battery life, features, AF, EVERYTHING.
  4. Couple of differences. DR is very slightly better on a7r II. Body is better: viewfinder (I would never go away from this), grip, balance, card slot placement, etc. FF 1080 on the A7rII is good, Super 35 is unfortunately pretty bad. Most importantly, you have the full frame option available to you Biggest losses: Image preview in S-log and the loss of Sgamut3.
  5. If it has S-log and dual card slots, I'll probably sell my A7R II for it
  6. Unless you meant for this to lean magenta over the entire image, I would calibrate your monitor
  7. When it was 7 vs 8.1 it was a question. But with 10 they ironed out all the performance issues.
  8. Yup just a circular mask in Resolve. Honestly I think my biggest issue is the background is incredible busy. Here's adding another element, brightening the background and dropping contrast. Used the same mask as the sharpening, just reversed it. Yes I do recommend practicing grading, especially masking, curves, and color wheels. Don't just throw a LUT on it.
  9. My attempt, It's what I would have for a thriller. Resolve: Basic Correction with dropped mids -> Resolve's Rec 709 fuji LUT at 25% -> Color and sharpening to face.
  10. I would own it, loved the D750 image and would surely love this. However I love the IBIS and EVF on my A7r II way to much to go back to optical viewfinders. The D850 is the perfect DSLR, but I've become to fond of mirrorless.
  11. Me. TheCameraStore video sold me on it. I will rent first but barring any terrible issues will buy it.

If your not answering to anyone but yourself, experiment! I wish I could use the full frame of my A7r II with video.
  13. If your already used to Gfilm. Put in the same settings and set the gamma and color mode to "Still". Been using that setting alot when I don't want to grade much. I've had more luck with the default Cine2 than Cine 4 myself. EDIT: Also drop saturation to +1, or the colors start clipping.

That film picture style looks very interesting. My 58mm is about to go for cheap on eBay. Somebody want to swing in and grab it for a little more? https://m.ebay.com/itm/Voigtlander-Nokton-58mm-f-1-4-MF-SL-II-Lens-For-Nikon-with-Duclos-Cinemod-/112783713191

Every time I watch those I want an NX1 again
  17. Buy a calibrator (Spyder or X-rite, the Spyder 5 isn't that expensive) and use SpectaCAL (https://displaycal.net/) to calibrate your Dell monitor.

I also love the focal length, perfect for me as well. My favorite lens was the Voigtlander 40mm f2 Ultron before this. I made the mistake of renting the 1.2, now I have to figure out what to sell to keep it The subject separation is insane.

  23. I actually really enjoy using Nikon's "FLAT" profile. Gets a ton of DR and easy to grade. My hope is that because Nikon has no Cinema line to protect, they go full on 10-bit 4:2:2 out of the gate. The footage from the D850 is spectacular for 8-bit, I just want that in a mirrorless body.
  24. - A NX1 sized body. - IBIS - A7r II sensor as a base - Video Quality from D850 - Dual Card Slots. - Mini or Full Size HDMI out. That is all it would take for me to buy. I love my A7r II, but miss Nikon Lenses.
