But if I would have only to buy one and carry with me? DJI Mini 4 Pro because flies too! LOL : )
On the ground to have with me all around? Osmo Pocket 3 or the new Ace Pro has also impressed me. Its 8K 24p looks like a winner there.
A camera unfortunately or not is the one we can use.
Going to a set? Ursa Mini Pro 12K, for some reason I've just purchased it :- )

I don't care about S5II/X on my own behalf as I am not intending to trade it in for any of my stuff I am going to have to sell. I got too much unused equilment, so a complimentary camera instead for my S1H will be cool. At the moment that would still be my S1, which I would sell. A G9 would offer additional features to find out about, especially Dual Gain, Pdaf and punsh-in preview during recording. Wanna test that Towerjazz magic and new colour!:) I have seen lowlight comparisons with the GH5s where it holds onto resolution and colours better than the latter. I just wouldn't buy into mambojambo affected textures. How could they mess up on that. Flagship cameras, at least from Panasonic, should not have unnecessary image nasties like that. If a GH5 (ll) and G9 do better in that regard it is a step back, which is unnatural by the logic of a succeeding model of the product line.
So, Panasonic, do your GH6 and G9II a favour and make them the much better cameras they potentially akready are. Turn off the mambojambo.

Ahah, no, of course it is on the original files, I never pixel peep on converted files.
I don't like the digital look at all like on smartphone (when everything is oversharpened), but I don't like digital processing making the image soft or sharp artificialy either. I sometime need to keep all the fine details for my videos, I don't want they have digital sharpening, I just want the same details as a raw photo without any digital processing. If I really need a soft image looking, I think the 1080P of my GH5 with a bit of un-sharpen is perfect, no need for a 4K or 6K camera.
If I un-sharpen a video file looking like a raw photo, as on the GH5, the result is good, because every details are there. But when I un-sharpen a file like on the GH6, it just doesn't look as good in my opinion, especially in low light, it looks more like if the image is upscaled.

My S5II also has bad processing going on internaly compared to previous S cameras, bad edge sharpening even in V-log, making the fine details less thin, and also chroma noise reduction more or less significant depending on the profile used. Of course, most of the time and depending on your screen, you need to crop in order to see the difference.
Digital processing like the Intelligent Detail Filter on the GH6 can certainly helps with moiré, but nothing come close to a OLPF like on the S1H for the nicest image quality. I even prefer to use my GH5 in low light compared to the GH6 below 1600 ISO, sure the GH6 is cleaner, but something just looks off about fine details rendering. Of course, downscaling the file to 1080P or viewing it on small screen doesn't make a big difference between both cameras. Again, it's really when cropping we can see that the details rendering is not the same.
But it is not so simple, because the colors of the GH6 are really really nice, I just love their new 25MP M43 sensor, it has natural and rich tones in video (and photos of course), nicer than on my S5II IMHO. Last time I loved the colors of a camera as much was with the Samsung NX1.
My G9II has more or less the same colors than the GH6, but on the cooler side, and more magenta overall. Nothing that can't be fixed in post though.

Interesting about the sensors (perhaps?) not being Sony - it makes sense though if they developed the dual-gain architecture as a custom design, which I am assuming they did.
It also then follows that the colour science would be slightly different too.  I suppose they could have made it identical if they'd wanted, but I think if you were designing such a thing you'd constantly be tinkering with it, trying to improve, adapting to more recent tastes etc.
The fact that the G9ii is as good as the GH6 in many ways could be a promising sign for what a potential GH7 could bring.  I think the difficulties with the GH6 were unfortunate, as was that it was overshadowed by the PDAF implementations of the next releases.  I think that Panasonic were being bold and trying to really push forward in doing a dual-gain architecture sensor, but unfortunately it just didn't quite make the kind of difference that you'd hope from such a bold move.  I guess Panasonic might take the "lesson" to just go back to incrementalism and play it safe etc, but I really hope they don't do that, but instead view it as a good-but-not-great project and keep being bold and trying things.
If the GH6 and G9ii sensors are from TowerJazz (or any other non-Sony provider) then it might be a sign they're going out on their own and will continue to iterate on the design and improve it over time.  That would be a great outcome I think.

I have been spending too much money on equipment in recent years, and WAY too much time researching it. I really don't need anything else in terms of kit. What I do need is to replace my wardrobe and make some repairs to my home and my vehicle. Also, I'd like to spend more time producing passion projects.

So, I'm making a commitment that I will not buy any new gear between November 30th, 2023 and November 29th, 2024 (got to give myself the option to take advantage of Black Friday deals). If I need a specialty piece of gear, I will rent it.

The exceptions are expendables and direct replacements, should anything I'm using break down.

I've never done this before and I'm posting this to help keep myself accountable.

    Here's my take on it.
I love it, great camera... But...
a1 is cheaper used, and does 8K at 500Mbit/s 422
The global shutter is capable of 6K at 120fps, but Sony didn't implement any 6K modes, no open gate, or anamorphic, and no Cinema 24p in the image processor. I have heard the image processor is not capable of oversampling at 120fps from 6K-> 4K so the 4K/120fps is likely pixel binned from the 6K. I believe the 4K/59.94/29.97/23.98 are oversampled from that full 6K output.
I like the new grip, looks more comfortable and is to be honest more stylish as well.
Can't really see a use for 120fps stills shooting, it's not a scientific camera.... although it could be used as one!!

It can break something and shift the viewers attention on someones sharply rendered mustache hairs instead of staying on their eyes. A medicore production can fail even more.
GX85 with its additional slight crop in 4k was a blessing for som C mount lenses. Rendering of some of these gems are just a sight to behold. S16, mft and S35 are my favorite formats for the choice and kind of lenses I am using. FF will be interesting too. Keep em all coming!:)

I was thinking the other day about how almost all lenses look best wide open.
So if it's a full frame F1.4 lens you see most clearly the rendering it has wide open rather than say, F5.6.
The advantage of a 2x crop sensor is that you get to shoot wide open and see more detail in backgrounds.
You take, say a 10mm F2.0 micro four thirds lens, it has the look of F2 but the deeper DOF as well so the setting isn't completely creamed out. If you have a really beautiful setting, you don't want it to be invisible and just bokeh in every shot.
So you could stop your full frame lens down to F4 or even F8 but then the whole character of the lens is lost and they all look uniformly pretty much the same beyond F4.
I think it begs a comparison... I might do one soon.
Take a Super 16mm 26mm F1.1 lens on a GH6, and compare it to a 50mm F1.2 on full frame, and also the same 50mm but stopped down to F2.2 to match the equivalent aperture of the S16mm lens at F1.1 wide open.
On the otherhand, the advantage of full frame might reveal itself more clearly when the focus distance is further out, and the subject remains a little bit separated from the environment, whereas on the 2x crop camera they'd be on the same focus plane, 'infinity' might start from about 3m outwards.
I understand the appeal of medium format, 65mm, large format cinema cameras, full frame, and so on...
Just think that 2x crop is not without merit and can even serve the story better in many cases.

Yes, the way I understand is that:
    1) G9mk2 is announced and immediately (or fairly soon afterwards) available to purchase
    2) while "the development of" the GH6X/GH7 is announced, with their available being either late this year or perhaps next year

It might clear it on a Cfexpress type A card, as they are rather speedy.
Unfortunately I ain't got one as they are also rather pricey.
I think it can fill the buffer at such a high rate of data, 50MP 30fps RAW, due to the buffer pretty much being onboard the sensor in a 3D circuit pattern.
But that does mean things slow down after so many GB of data works it way off the buffer, and through to the card.
It is also rather heavy on the battery.
A fun trick though and something to play with.

I agree with the technical specifications. The tricks I can't say for certain though. It looks to me that cinematic mode does more harm than good at the moment. It may depends on how limited the knowledge of that person.
Anyways I haven't had a chance to test out this camera, so I'm just speculating.
If the ZV-E1 indeed can give someone with limited knowledge the ability to produce professional result, it's going to be a VERY BIG DEAL, but perhaps not so great for us professionals.😅

I think the price is very steep for the target demo. Especially in Europe. I just can't imagine your average vlogger dropping that kinda coin on a camera targeted at amateurs/beginners.
That being said the camera has some pretty solid specs/features. They didn't gimp it as much as I thought they would.
In fact, in quite a few ways it actually surpasses the A7S3 with next-gen AF, focus compensation and even LUT support.
    And it retains ALL-I 10-bit Slog3.
I assume an A7S4 is just around the corner.
The body of course is of the cheaper kind. And no EVF, no mechanical shutter. Micro HDMI etc.
The IBIS is also the more basic A7C one, not the same as in A7 series.
And the biggest con, no active/passive cooling.
I've just seen some tests and the camera overheated in 30mn using XAVC-I.
This totally kills it imo for most types of shooting.

I recently asked for book recommendations to learn about human vision and was given a link to a free PDF.
    It is incredible.
I'm only a quarter of the way through, but I'm absolutely blown away.  The human vision system looks like it was designed by committee and then re-imagined by Dali and Picasso, while on drugs.  It is a wonder we can see anything at all!
Did you know that the rods and cones (which detect light) are BEHIND a bunch of nerves and nerve cells and blood vessels, so the light has to go through a bunch of crap before you even sense it?
The book is actually a mix of how the human vision system works and also what we have done with the tech to try and align to it, so it's a nice blend of biology and tech.  It's also very readable and tries to be as non-technical as possible.  This is a rare find compared to other books that are hugely tech heavy.
Take the red pill with me...  download it here: https://www.filmlight.ltd.uk/support/documents/colourbook/colourbook.php (download it by clicking on the box next to the file size).

I saw in the video, he says it's a Global Shutter, has 16 stops of dynamic range and 5k video, with a lot of frame rates. What more could one ask for? It's probably better than Full Frame, if the quality is anywhere close to advertised. If that's the case, Panasonic needs to pick up one of these sensors for itself too.

5K global shutter, dual gain sensor and "the best dynamic range out of all their cameras". Shipping in October. People are already whining about the price of 3999 dollars ("ITS NOT FULL FRAME"). This is why we can't have nice things and I fear this might sell very badly of course.

New Full Frame 6K camera looks great (internally). Love the sensor, OLPF, BRAW, open gate, DR looks impressive despite BMD still claiming 13 stops, internal proxies and a far better mirrorless mount (than EF) means adapting lenses is much easier. If using EF lenses, these is an adaptor that has a built in VariND ( I think Meike make it) so I’m not even too fussed about the lack of ND filters. Biggest issue for me still is the form factor. I’ve had a few BMD Pocket cameras from the P4K to th 6KPro and I hate the form factor. With this new full frame sensor, Black Magic have kinda made a budget Alexa Mini LF (BUDGET!) but I can’t see many film makers wanting this body style anymore.

The reworked Micro Studio Camera then... looks with the new additions that they've accidentally created the box P4K that everyone has been asking for.
A nod to Panasonic there that its possible to bring out a new MFT camera that isn't the size of a brick.
    However......
Unless I missed it, does that new 6K not have the ND filters ?
It wasn't mentioned and looking at the rear panel the +/- buttons to control it that the P6K Pro has were not there.
The AF looks like the familiar standard too though and I'm guessing much would have been made if it had something new in that department *
Full frame, L mount and CDAF.....
Its pretty much a BRAW shooting version of the original S5 without the IBIS then 😉
Looks pretty good but not the complete revolution many were predicting/expecting/hoping for.

*yes, yes real cinema cameras have no AF anyway etc but don't say that you wouldn't love it if it had it..
