I have had the same thing in a different industry. It is soul destroying when you end up doing twice as much work as you quoted for. Especially when you do what was agreed and they dont like it, then do it until they like it. Then they say forget that part altogether. That is why I never ever deal with clients anymore, I am too nice and end up being their internet monkey scared to ask for more money to cover my time. Now I trippled my rate and will probably add a third on in spring and there are proper contracts,  with all face to face and calls communcation going through my business partner. Stress is a thing of the past.

So, trying to function as professional in the industry is more about people skills than not.  At least that's been my experience at the level I'm at.  No one's ever going to hire me because I have a craft level that's superior to those in the upper echelon of film making.  I'm just not that guy.
Which leaves me in a precarious situation --as most of the time the work I'm doing has been quick boutique "one-offs" wherein I go in for a day or two, gather footage, then take it back to the homestead and edit it together.  Rather simple, small and fun stuff to do.  Nothing special about that.  12 year olds have better equipment and do the same.
The tough situation I'm facing is that my ability to tolerate a difficult client has diminished.  Maybe it's a sign of getting older?
This is no small thing.  Seriously, the desire to coddle a client has seemingly disappeared.   For instance, I'm working on a documentary thing where the client is so maddeningly absent minded, she has forgotten about shoots, called me in at the last minute to locations, sent me on location for shoots that are irrelevant to the product, has failed to produce shoots that offer any useable coverage, won't stop talking (about herself) to the documentary subjects on location to allow clean b-roll of said subject, doesn't seem aware that words from an interview require some sort of image to cover the endless droning of a talking head, refuses provide interview (trans)scripts with accurate time-code, etc, etc, etc....
Basically, she's kind of incompetent (from my point of view) to direct documentaries.  Nice person, but her choices and process are maddeningly pathetic.  Nevertheless, she's paid me a flat rate to do all this stuff for her.
    Aha!  Therein lies the problem.
Never, ever, work with a bad client on a large project for a flat rate. --AND ALWAYS assume first time out of the gate, no matter how sweet they are, that you're getting in bed with a potentially difficult client.  You'll end up being exploited and resentful; resentful to your client and resentful to yourself for agreeing to such ridiculous terms to begin with.
Anyway, that's my advice.  How to y'all cope with a shitty client?  I drink lots and lots of wine and get fatter.  You?

I did also... So I bought a maxed out Surface Book. Then I tried to use it to edit some 4k video. After that I packed it neatly back into its box and returned it. The SB is a nice computer, and I much prefer "Hello Windows" to Apple's "Touch ID". But when you buy the Mac you are paying both for hardware and well optimized software. And the latter justifies the price. That said my fully spec'd MBP late 2016 model has been on order since the 15th of November, and it still reads as "Processing" at BHPhoto. Would love it if I had some clue when I might actually receive my unit.

have you guys used the new touchbar? ive spent some time with it and imo it is THE stupidest gimmick. dont get me wrong, a mbp is still a mbp...
touchbar doesnt add any functionality... it just makes me want to TOUCH THE SCREEN. The ACTUAL SCREEN.
its like appl engineers came up with the laziest possible way to have a 'touch screen computer' lmao

Moral of story - never buy new gear when it comes out - wait a year.  Always wait a year. Seems like every piece of hardware is in beta up to at least a year after release.

Use it automatic you want to.
I do from time to time.  People that rely on it however are missing opportunities.  A wise shooter can make decisions better than that their camera.  That's all I'm saying.  The only way to be wise is to learn how to do it.  You'll just be ignorant if you don't.  Doesn't mean you can't get good shots, just means that you're going to lose good shots along the way.
Also, if auto is your default made, you're lazy.  Okay, that's holier-than-thou.

Be that as it may, manual exposure for motion pictures ain't all that complicated.  If a person can't grasp the three variables that need to be controlled, then they're hopeless and, yes, they should stick to the code to do it for them.  They will suffer from the limitations of that.  Yes, it will get them a decent shot "most of the time," but when they need to get a great shot and it's not a situation that is "most of the time," then what?
Moreover, knowing what the heck your camera actually does and why is going to make the user better at shooting.   If it's not one's profession, let's call it a hobby.  Even amateurs should have a clue what they can do with their gear.

Obviously if you want the name removed from my posting I have no objection, I am just trying to help not to give you any headaches.  However after some time the owner/administrator of this form no longer allows any updates.  I would contact the administrator and ask him to update my posting, I certainly have no objection to that.
< removed by request >  Unless the artist actually sells the rights < removed by request > merely licenses to sub license the content.  That means the original owner is still the rights holder.
< removed by request > explains here the process and the preferred way of handling it.  Instead of disputing the claim they prefer you take an alternate road:
    < removed by request >
That is not unusual, for instance AdRev has a similar mechanism.
YouTube does not remove footage by themselves, they are instructed by the rights holder if they issue a take down request.  However you have the right to dispute it but at that point it becomes a serious matter.  If you are sure you are correct and the claimant is wrong you should dispute the take down and YouTube must reinstate the video unless the owner sues you within a given time frame.  If they do not your video will be back and your strike will be removed.
I have disputed claims before on historical recordings where Content ID was misidentified but it never came to a point of suing.  The rights holder is required before they issue a take down to have a real person listen and verify if the claim is valid and always the issue was resolved.

I'm talking about motion pictures. Judging exposure while rolling.
I'm also assuming the operator has some skill and can compensate with wisdom for various scenarios.
If a shooter is bad at using a camera, well...

Manual exposure only. To do otherwise is ridiculous. You're at the mercy of an algorithm.
If a shooter is adept at manual control, they can easily anticipate proper exposure.  The human brain is far more capable at situational context than any lines of code will ever be.

I don't think transcoding to ProRes is going to help but you can always try.
ProRes and H.264 pretty much use the same compression technology, but ProRes does not use inter-frame compression.  It is hard to scrub the timeline with inter-frame compression because the computer has to calculate the current frame starting from a key frame which may not be nearby so transcoding it often helps.  By the way you can encode H.264 without inter-frame compression as well.
Lumetri functions use the CPU and GPU and do not depend on the codec because they are processed after internal decoding.
You could enable 1/2 or 1/4 playback on the program monitor or use lower resolution proxies.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. Going to switch if the mentioning the audio track thing doesn't work immediately. Going to try uploading a H.265 video now. If that works I will pee in my pants lol.
edit: BINGO! H.265 uploads allowed. The only issue is viewer numbers. Will have to have a think about that. Might be worth using VP9 and the mentioning the audio track owners instead, because Youtube gets way more viewers. Will give it a try for the VOD.
"YouTube has over a billion users–almost a third of all people on the Internet–and every day, people watch hundreds of millions of hours of YouTube videos"
"Vimeo’s 170 million monthly viewers amount to less than 20 percent of YouTube’s 1 billion-plus monthly viewership"

This might be great advice. I will check with Pond5 and AudioBlocks then start mentioning audio tracks and where we got them in the description. The fact they have never mentioned that to me makes me a little skeptical as AudioBlocks do the dispute for us, but it is certainly worth a try. The claimant is always different to the person and track name on the stock sites. Thank you
As for the videos not having ads; Orangenz is right, I dispute them as they come in. There should be one or two at the moment including (edit: name removed for fear of Youtube ban), or maybe they dont always stick ads on straight away.

Sony Creative Music doesn't, Neumann Films doesn't. Saying "I couldn't see any ads" means you haven't read the OP. They dispute them and get them removed. If you haven't had this problem yourself then maybe you don't post anything on Youtube? The problem certainly dissuaded me from engaging with youtube much.

They are too bright at close viewing distances to make for a comfortable computer monitor, and if you turn the brightness all the way down, contrast goes to hell. Also, TVs have a habit of electronic meddling on a per pixel basis, some might even have processing you can't turn off.

I think it all depends on what your desired end product is. If you want to deliver in 4K, at the maximum resolution a 4K file is possibly capable of, you will need an oversampled sensor to get there because of the resolution loss from debayering.
So at the minimum, an NX1 or A6300/6500... or more realistically, a FS7, C300II, Red, etc, when you consider how many compromises the NX1 or A6300/6500 have (rolling shutter, overheating, limited DR, slomo is FHD at best, etc).
So, still not "affordable" to most people looking to own the camera... even the vast majority of pro shooters, which are not yet (and may never be) at the point of realistically affording a $8-10K camera.
For all those shooters, and of course most enthusiasts and hobbyists, I think aiming to deliver a maxed-out 1080p file is more realistic, which is mostly achievable with the current affordable 4K cams. Even if my GH4 is only resolving maybe 3K because of debayering, that's still plenty to deliver maxed-out 1080p, even with a little bit of cropping or stabilizing.
