No worries whatsoever..  after all, clients are paying for skill and experience - not just equipment hire

sounds like this is just about making raw more stable, compatible with slower cards & eventually higher fps.. which is great.. but i dunno where y'all got 2.5K/5DIV etc excited about?

Yes, but any gains in resolution are only offered by the crop mode with the stuttery greyscale preview - it's off center and quite difficult to follow live action. The normal mode and 3x crop fast preview mode are limited to 1920x1080 AFAIK.

Yeah I dont think they ever tried to emulate exactly with Acros, velvia, etc. Its more a naming thing with a hint of those stocks character.
And I also agree on the less need for post to save skin approach. I gave up dialing down contrast and saturation a long time ago. My philosophy is that someone have spent alot of time and money on the baked in curves. And they are probably a better starting point than what I can get.
On fuji I usually pick a look in camera and only do minor luma tweaks in post. Looks great imo.

On my computer Adobe and the in camera simulations ends up 100% identical with zero effort. So for me its raw or nothing.
But I can definitely understand the appeal of good jpegs. It depends on what parts of the images making process one appreciate.
Same thing goes for video. If one loves shooting but hates grading, then a bmpcc isn't exactly a killer camera. But if one enjoys the post process a low bitrate stills camera might feel underwhelming.

If I can rent one I can compare to the rolls of s16 Eterna 250D I have in my freezer (stocked up when it was discontinued)

I know, you have been doing it a long time now. But I think you are a bit hard on yourself. You shouldn't go as far as calling yourself scum. Imo troll is the proper term.

I don't know what's going on with you but over the last few months I've noticed you've gotten quick to become aggressive. No one here is out to get you. Just because some people don't find certain features useful doesn't it mean it's an attack on you. Just like how AF isn't a priority feature for you, lack of 10bit might not be a deal breaker for others. Repeating the same things over and over isn't going to change people's minds.

Could someone with the camera shoot a second or two with for example Eterna in default and then the same scene with lifted shadows and different DR setting. And then share the clips?
Would be interesting to see if there truly is a difference or if its replicable in post.

I've read that too, many times! Crazy

What they don't realise is: good video = sells more cameras.

More cameras sold = more cameras to spread fixed costs over.

Lower fixed costs = lower priced cameras for everyone! (including "pure" photographers)

Your aggression and unpleasantness is starting to seriously impact the enjoyment that others derive from this forum. You derail thread after thread with your deeply insulting scattergun imprecations. We get that you don't like what Fuji have done with their new camera and we get that you don't like Mattias. So why don't you do the adult thing and leave both this thread and his posts well alone.
Edit: for the avoidance of doubt, I'll be using the ignore feature from now on. I shouldn't have to do that, in a generally respectful forum.

I am punched in 200%, which probably makes the noise more pronounced. Here's a Super 8 emulation test where I just applied a mask over the vignetted area, to give you an idea of how cropped in it is:
Te Graduate is one of my favorite films and is one of the reasons I love a good zoom shot. That and Kubrick.

anyways in my very brief testing of H1 yesterday, IBIS seemed really on point.

I don't use luts in grading, but a lut can help with "client preview" on set.

8bit has very little bandwidth to be pushed around in grade. 8bit cameras are setup by the manufacturer through internal testing to capture the optimum image gradiation for it's respective sensor encoding. Just because an 8bit camera offers log or exposure tools doesn't mean that the image is that mallabe.
The 8bit HEVC images coming out of my NX1 are vibrant and brilliant stock, and I notice very little artifacts as is. But I have little room to push channels in Lumentri before I break it and see artifacts, banding, macroblocking, noise, etc.
Thankfully, Neat Video comes to the rescue and does a stellar job at cleaning up that mess, which is exactly what it was designed for. When I then view those results on my 10bit monitor, the image holds up rather nicely.
For those with 8bit systems, don't feel discouraged or left out of the conversation, you have viable options.

Actually, well exposed you can do wonderful things with 8 bit, if you choose the right software.
But if you shoot log/HLG or plan to do a lot of grading/keying/vfx insert, and don't want any banding or artefact, 10bit is nessecary for perfect results.
That being said, "perfect" depends a lot of your sensitivity, your eyes, and of course, the broadcast media.
Since I have a GH5 with its 10 bit, my videos are not fundamentally better, but I'm more satisfied about what I can do in postprod

Here is a 1-bit image (in an 8-bit PNG container):

If you download this image and zoom into it, you will see that it consists only of black and white dots -- no grey shades (except for a few unavoidable PNG artifacts near the center).  It is essentially a 1-bit image.

If you zoom out gradually, you should at some point be able to eliminate most of the moire and see a continuous gradation from black to white.

Now, the question is:  how can a 1-bit image consisting of only black and white dots exhibit continuous gradation from black to white?

The answer is resolution.  If an image has fine enough resolution, it can produce zillions of shades, which, of course readily applies to each color channel in an RGB digital image.

So, resolution is integral to color depth.

Let's give 2nd look on that test a chance...
People generally have that idea. Banding depends on the bit depth.
That test leads to a bit different path though.
Actually, it is even beyond color sampling, also bit rate.
That is, not only bit depth.

Practice redefines theory much often to keep going to ignore the evidence : ) Mark's @markr041 posts hinted it all :-)

You are right ceteris paribus, but the bit depth statement and the visual comparison ignores the role of bitrate (that is, you have compared different bit depths for highly compressed clips (I assume)). The test posted above shows us that bitrate matters also, and that it matters more. Remove the high compression, and the difference by bit depth shrinks almost to invisibility. So you are correct, it is just that it turns out something is even more important than bit depth (they interact). That is, when you use 8 bits but do not highly compress you get much less banding. I have heard this before; I am not claiming the bitrate effect is correct other than interpreting what the poster showed (and I do not see anything wrong with his test).

No offense but this is BS. There are a lot more than a few people making money with 8-bit cameras. From YouTubers, to wedding/corporate/commercial videographers, R&G, indie film etc.. one could argue 8-bit is "the normal thing".
Not sure what you consider the "industry" but there is now a whole new digital platform outside of broadcast television that doesn't care about any old "standards". (which btw is what.. BBC/EBU standards?)
Even cinema doesn't really care.. Soderbergh's next movie was shot entirely on iPhone 7+ and just premiered at Berlin Film festival last month..
Anyways i sense trolling.. because we all know only a single mirrorless/dslr camera exists on the market today that shoots 10-bit internally.
So.. just get that or pony up for a pro video cam. Easy.
