Overall I've been very happy with mine in the field -haven't seen any serious ghosting with higher iso's. I've found it to be very easy to use with nice IQ, and quite refreshing compared to a hybrid mirrorless where video is secondary to stills.

Its amazing how the XC10 went from crap-what was Canon thinking, to the XC10 is amazing-how did the internets get this camera so wrong, back to the XC10 is crap-I won't ever believe what the internets tell me ever again.
In reality, it has very nice IQ in good light, and better than expected IQ in low light given the sensor size and slow lens.  IMO it makes up for any low light deficiencies with the form factor, c-log, lens range and great image stabilisation.
If you use it for what is it intended and play to its strengths, its a nice compliment to a C100.  Its not an A7S but then its probably not really fair to compare a 12 megapixel full frame sensor to a 12 megapixel 1 inch sensor for pure IQ in low light.  In good light, I think it holds it own and is very very easy to match to other C cameras.

Get a C100 and a XC10/15 for B cam (or low profile A cam if need to pack light) -very versatile set-up with minimal hassle and nice/easy colour match in post.

mat33 got a reaction from Marco Tecno in Canon sponsored content on DPReview
Its the big problem with the internet in that most people don't want to pay for information to be created.  So we see sources that should be unbiased or impartial (or at least be biased towards providing for and protecting their readers) having a higher level conflict of interest in that while their readers are important long-term, in the short term they aren't the ones keeping the lights on.
The video the DPreview article mentioned is actually old news -was released by Canon in August.  ScottDW has done canon PR videos in the past -he did a pretty good one using the XC10, and this was another canon sponsored video.  Most of his non-PR stuff is shot on a RED, and I'm pretty sure he is not ditching his RED for an 80D.
I am not a subscriber but there are ReidReviews and Luminous Landscapes which have a subscription model for quite in-depth and supposedly unbiased still camera reviews.  Not sure if there is anything for cinema.

The E-M5 series is meant to be the more video focused of the OMD line than the E-M1, so will be interesting to see what the E-M5 mark iii brings to the table.  Despite this, with the processing power in the E-M1 we could see some nice improvements with video AF, log profile and maybe some higher frame rates with future updates. I'm sure John Brawley is giving Olympus some good feedback on what they need to do from a video perspective.

Nice.  Shot with good well considered light.  Would look fine with just about any camera to be honest...
Which, honestly, is why I'm considering using Oly cameras from here on out.  They're "good enough" for video and my deciding factor ends up being more about the ergonomics of the gear when all else across brands is close to equal at this price point.
I just like using Olympus cameras.  Can't say I have a hard time with any other brand.  I like them all, really, it's just that Olympus feels "right" to me.
That said, it's not going to stop me from using a full frame camera with a 50mm on it for my interviews.  That's just a look I can't get from M43, so I gotta have an extra camera just for those set-ups.

Ok, this might be getting old but what the heck.
Not my own footage (by the very talented Arsen Sarkisiants -who I suspect could make anything look cinematic)
One hint- the camera does have a log color mode...

I think the D750 and XC10/15 are up there for 1080p image quality.  My pick for colour if you don't need high frame rates is digital bolex with global shutter, otherwise 5D mark iii raw.

So just got my XC10, and it definitely has a cool s16 aesthetic.  IS is probably a bit better than olympus E-M1 IBIS but need to do some further tests, and onboard audio is a lot better than GH4 that it replaced.

If you are used to shooting on Canon and have a well developed post workflow, then I'd stick with Canon.  I'm assuming you are not shooting extreme low light with the M1 and a 2.8 lens, so the XC10 might be your best bet to keep it small and unobtrusive.  Otherwise a C100 + ninja star, or 1DC.

You guys are surprised about the xc15? Why? You already knew this.
Its a xx5 update. Usually that means an SDI port and nothing else. And now its all of a sudden a surprise. Find it strange.
As I see it the audio port was all it should have gotten. Waveform is a huge bonus.
I don't know anymore. People get happy, angry and sad over weird features these days. Same when a new camera (forgot which) had moved the mic jack away from the screen. People where upset even though it's a massive deal. It makes rotating screens actually rotatable. And instead they go apeshit over some bogus feature.
I mean I get it. I got as much G.A.S as the next guy. But Im not emotional and I don't get all psychotic demanding this and that for free, calling people idiots or lay awake at night because of a frame rate.
This whole looking at gear and hanging out on forums is imo supposed to be fun and relaxing. Don't get heart attacks over it. Bcause at the end of the day its just meaningless and stupid cameras.
And professionally none of us "need" anything that isn't already out there to do our job.

I'll be very very surprised if there's anything more than the audio connector - I just can't see Canon adding 4K 60p, or even DPAF without more of a redesign of the body and so soon after initial release (was available for sale June 2015) -this is Canon not Sony we are talking about.

Those things all sound like something that would be in a new model. This however is likely just a xx5 version. So you are going to have to have some patience.
(Its been said already, compare the xa20/25, xa30/35, xf100/105, xf200/205)

XC10 Mark II or an XC20 would be a replacement.
An XC10 / XC15 is just like the XA30 (standard model) and XA35 (extra port).
    It's all in the name.
It would be a big break with tradition for Canon to make a major change on a 'XX-5' model.

Im with you on all that. XC15 will probably be to the XC10 what the XA35 is to the XA30 (Or xf200/xf205).
Also believe IBC makes more sense.

I'll be surprised if the XC15 replaces the XC10.  If the photos are legit, then there's a XLR input but probably no HD-SDI that I can see.  I would think if they had added a new sensor with DPAF it would be an XC20 but we will see. However, photokina seems a strange time to release a new professional camcorder so I imagine it will be released at IBC.
I agree that the lens is much better than reported -I too would not want to give up the size, range, IS and parfocalness for a constant 2.8.
Maybe the XC10 is selling better than we know.  When I brought mine the store mentioned that Canon had said to them that they had been moving quite a few recently, maybe the news guys are seeing a role and the XLR will help cement this.

Sure they would. I know I would. I would love a 10-2000mm f0.95 small as a coffey mug
But I wouldn't trade a constant aperture and parfocal 24-70/4, 24-240/5.6 and 24/2.8 all in one for a 24-200/2.8 if it meant loosing not only the reach. But also the 5 axis stabilization, loosing the parfocalness and being twice or three times the size rendering the camera unbalanced? And probably way more expensive as well.

There is a reason I don't run-n-gun with a 18-35/1.8 and 24-70/2.8 IS as much as I would with the 24-105/4 IS (or 24-120/4 VR if its on a Nikon).
I would skip the extra stop if it gave me a smaller, lighter, cheaper, constant aperture, parfocal lens with better IS.
Specially on a camera like this which is truly meant for run-n-gun.

    IMO,
Indy filmmakers, porno, blocked shots is different. But that's not what we are talking about here. Super shallow depth of field, extreme lowlight and so on is not at all relevant when discussing the XC10/15. For those type of things there are way way better cameras.
This is more for news gathering type of situations. Most one man band news crews I see and hang out with use the XF100 or XA20.
Those are the cameras I compare to.

If they do add DPAF hopefully they offer this as an upgrade option for existing XC10 owners like they did with the C100.

Well looking at the differences between the XA30 and XA35, which are part of the XC10's camcorder group, I wouldn't be surprised if the XC15 only adds HD/SDI output for news broadcasters and maybe some type of XLR input or add-on pack. You would think if it was a new lens, dual pixel focus (which would imply a new sensor?) then it would be an XC20 based on the XA ranges naming history.
