8mm does for sure, but good luck finding one or modifying it. 9mm wont, it's 2/3 inch.

Think its best to let it go. I dont know how many times I've seen the argument that the biggest filmmakers, biggest producers of nature films, TV etc is just "less informed", " don't know better" or "unaware" of the awesomeness that is low bitrate, low DR, bad RS but surprisingly overly sharp image from a consumer stills camera.

It's amazing how many people twist to how they like it what the OP was asking.

That says more about the average reader than the camera/s.

Exactly, we are comparing the best 1080p to the best 4K within a budget. So a real life scenario, would for example be comparing a BMMCC image to a GH4 or NX1 in 4K. These images are far from being equal, thus "with everything else equal" (as you put it) isn't really a valid situation for many here. (As nothing is equal in the same price range in regards to 1080p vs 4k. You don't get something for nothing).

p.s. Not trying to have a go at you, just trying to point out that your logic (whilst true) isn't realistic for most people here weighing up 4K vs 1080p with the current tech.

I got a 7D recently just for photos with a heavy investment in EF glass, I already had a GH4 for video and shot almost everything in 4K. Since I got MLRaw installed on the 7D and figured it out I haven't even considered picking up the GH4 since... and the 7D raw I'm shooting is only 1066p, not even 1080p haha. GH4 has way more res, but the images are worlds apart, in comparision 7D looks like a film, GH4 looks like a camcorder (even when edited nicely).

Made me realise how much I actually want a BM cam. :D

What are you going to do with it? Keep it in pristine condition in a box until you die? Use the thing! I have a 17mm FD that I also love.

My Elmo has pretty strong flares, but my 8Z blue flare is the strongest, it will flare from anything (and it looks nice unlike some other blue flares from certain brands). I also prefer Metric.

    I've had 2 x Elmoscope II, 2 x 8Z and 1 x B&H.
One 8Z had Gold flares, one Blue flares. The Blue one flared the easiest of any lens I've owned.
Both Elmo Scopes were Gold flares, Both B&H were Gold flares. The Elmo IIs I had seemed to flare a bit easier than the B&H.

The one I kept and use the most now is an Elmo II, but I think it's really dependent on production factors as to which is the sharpest/ best. They all can be good.

    My setup for you.

FOV is certainly wider, but I can also achieve that same width with 1 anamorphic and a lot less hassle. DOF wasn't noticably better to my eye, but I'm also not really in search of anything shallower than I can already achieve, I usually don't shoot wide open much anyway (close ups often at f4-5.6).

The best part about it was trying to work out how it would look de-squeezed, it's like christmas when you see the end result .

    Settle down .
I remembered that the person in question was also asking me about this in order to shoot regularly and have ultra wide panoramas (could indeed be someone else). My FB account has a lot of messages, it's pretty hard to scroll back through them all to find something.
    I tested it today with the setup I described above. (FD50mm, Kowa 8 2x, Kowa 8z, GH4).
Worked fairly well. Overall I would say -
    - More abberations and CA than 1 scope (that's a given).
    - Incredibly hard to focus (must focus 3 times unless you have a VD unit).
    - Very hard to align all 3 lenses exactly (this now becomes even more important than with 1 adapter and taking lens).

It was cool to try it out but for my tastes any gain in resolution or loss of RS doesn't really outweigh the drop in quality and the awkward handling/ excess bulk (GH4 RS doesn't really annoy me that much).
I like messing around with stuff, so cheers for the idea!

    Nice one Tito!
Overall I'd say I agree that story is far more important than lenses/ gear. If it's captivating you're not focusing on the quality too much. I think that the night shots also helped hide some of the lenses imperfections better than broad daylight would have. There were a few shots in there that I thought "well that looks really soft", but as I said it didn't stop me from watching it. At a guess I would say it was the small Century, but I couldn't be sure on that (I don't own any of them).

Its nice that they are getting 4K, but imo, an old 5Dmkiii with ML still beats A7sii/rii, GH4, etc and probably will trump the GH5 as well.
So there is a big chance the new 5Div will get its ass kicked by its own predecessor.

But aren't the "main people" from Magic Lantern involved in the Apertus Axiom project now? Wonder how much time to spare they have for a 5D IV hack.

    hahaha.

p.s. I love Canon, I just wish they would make a mirrorless camera like Sony (but Canon) and do it at a price that I can actually afford :D . I recently purchased a secondhand 7D as a backup photo body and was pretty impressed with the pictures it took, still blows away my GH4 and other MFT cameras.

If you want to shoot moving things outside (in the heat) then I wouldn't recommend a6300. GH4 is the most versatile 4K shooter with options, but as others have said G7 may also fill your needs and costs even less. I'm also waiting to see what GH5 has instore.

I'm talking about use with GH4 by the way. I read many similar cases to mine.

If anyone does find a decent cheap adapter like this please let me know! I don't want to pay half the price of my camera for an adapter  .

I think it could have been a mistake un-fortunetly  .

Buy some cheap FDs or Takumars. 24 or 28, 35 and a 50 should cover most situations. Newer lenses with complex designs and zooms don't tend to work as well. You can get those lenses I listed for pennies.

Also I would advise getting a vintage 2nd hand 2x adapter rather than the SLR, you will save a ton of money, put that into lenses and diopters.

In their official specs they mention a 2.5 mic jack... is it possible everyone is reporting on it wrong?
