Everyone wants the 1 inch sensor!! If DJI can pull this off with their Osmo Action 2, then it'll be some gamechanger, for sure

It would be an easy sell for the people and pros who actually want/need it. I'm sure DJI know this and they have the tech already so I'd say we are going to see it for sure, it's just a matter of when... I'd also be interested to see whether Gopro tries to fight back or not, I feel like they are on their last legs, but I could also be wrong.

  2. Hero 7 is the glitchiest piece of electronic equipment I've ever purchased, not fit for pro work (all my friends who have it also have the same software issues, some even have other hardware related issues, I hope they have solved these issues for the 8).

Hero 8 has no ability to replace the glass in front of the lens... I dunno what you do with your cams, but I use mine for, well... action! So if I scratch that thing I want to replace it! I replaced my Hero7 front 3 times already! This makes the Hero 8 a non-starter in my opinion.

@hk908 Yes the stabilisation is rubbish in low light, don't even try it (actually turn it off, or your images will be toast)... it works pretty well in mid day light though.

That all said and done, if anyone is listening... DJI cough cough... can you please make a 1inch sensor camera with better IQ and codecs!!! An action cam with the same sensor as the Mavic 2 with a fisheye lens for action sports (prores if possible!) would be incredible!!! I don't even care if it's twice the size. DO IT!!!

p.s. Forgot to mention, if I could go back in time I would have bought the DJI action cam. Only thing I wish is that they wouldn't glue the lens in... DJI please let us swap that out if we want!

  3. I probably have a similar amount of footage to you on most occasions. The feature I'm working on now I shot about 3TB of footage over 3 months.

    Steps I take -
I usually try and cull the bad shit from the start, once I transfer to hard drive I kill anything I know I wont use for sure and also try to give every clip a name.
Once I'm in the editor I make different timelines for different things, pull the shots I know I might use in there to just check them out and be easily able to see them.
If I've done the first step well the footage is already in folders on the hard drive that are pretty self explanatory.
The last part is making seperate timelines (if the project is too big) of the edit and then putting them all together in one timeline at the end.

I dunno how people usually approach this stuff, but for the things and style I shoot this is the best workflow I can come up with because usually my videos are not narratives.

The VX1000 was game changer for skateboarding and you're right it is a pretty popular camera. I still own 2 versions of the VX1000. As other have stated though most filmers are moving to HD, myself included but, I have been using VX Cam for iOS which emulates the VX1000. So yes it is on the way out but in the meantime I will use the app for small films and will continue to film with the VX until I can no longer find any parts haha.

Is this spam? No real VX filmer would tell you they have been using an app for IOS, I smell a fish.

  5. I have the SLR Magic II, it has wild colour casts at either end, I'm not that stoked on it. I think the Aurora is a better option, far less colour casting, which for me is the most annoying issue with Vari-NDs.

For the line of work I do (as someone who has specialised in the sound department), I wouldn't even call RodeLinks or Rode GO "100% usable"

Rode GO: nonlocking connector, is a dealbreaker.

But it's obviously not a product made for professional work ;) .

  7. I don't mind it, but sometimes I think it looks a bit choppy, obviously it's a personal choice.

I decided to do it in this video where I cut true anamorphic with Fisheye angles and the reception was mixed, some people didn't like it, but it got people talking. I'm un-decided really, but I think if you can make it flow it's cool. I like to see 8mm 4:3 chopped with crispy 16:9 35mm, but I think chopping from 2.35 to 4:3 is hard to make look fluid.

In my opinion (any many people share this belief), anamorphicstore is a huge rip-off, but it's a free country and everyone chooses what they like.

I got a question already. What monitor and battery solution would you suggest using a E2 cam? I like it portable, so I can just tuck it away in my backpack. (I dont want to remove the monitor everytime) But even more importantly how do you guys power the E2 and the chosen monitor? At the same time with the same battery would be awesome, as I hate charging and switching batteries at the same time. But I dont want to use any v-lock batteries as it makes the rig too big for travelling purposes. And I need to be able to rig it onto a ronin S.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I use BM5 and the Powerextra NPF960 with DC out on top. The Portkeys BM5 comes with a short locking cord to plug it into the battery. To put in my bag I just fold the screen down flat (take the handle off if one is attached) and shut the bag. Couldn't be much simpler. Batteries last longer than my 256GB CFast2.0 card takes to fill.

  10. Hi @Andrew Reid,

Just wondering if it would be possible to make an Zcam sub forum? The FB group is very popular but it's a terrible way to access information, it would be cool to have a proper place to direct people and catalogue information.

    Cheers.
