  1. What's described in the first post sounds pretty pointless if I understood it correctly. If you have to focus anyway while the camera also autofocuses, then why not just use a single focus lens? I could see this weird dual auto focus setup just creating problems.

Easiest way to shoot with AF is just to put a 1.33x adapter on an AF lens.

  2. Sounds close to correct.
I use the smallest extension tube and then a spacer (O-ring) I made out of some thin plastic cutting board. Titos method of putting wire in-between is pretty ghetto and unexact IMO. You can wrap some tape around it afterwards to stop the lens spinning (it kind of turns even when tight).

Yeah this is just silly. I can’t believe it doesn’t have 24p in 1080?!?! Huh?

I think what this proves is that Canon does not see low budget video users as a target audience at this price point.

With that being said, I’m sure it will be a nice camera but they just saved me $600 because if I want Canon 4K or 1080p DPAF, I may as well just get an M50... 1.6x crop 4K crop on the RP or 2.5x crop on the M50’s... whatever. At least I can shoot 1080p at 24p on the M50.

Yep me to. Can't see the draw over an M50. I had some hope, but I should have known.

You’d give up ML Raw for this camera?

I basically never use MLraw anymore, the 5Diii really only gets used for photos by me these days. Although I really love it, it's just not practical or suited to my needs so much. I'm probably going to get an E2 to go with my GH5 for the video stuff, they should be bringing a 4K Raw codec to the camera soon which will fill that raw hole :) . I just want a small, light camera that shoots good photos without much work SOOC, seems like RP could be that.

Handling with the Canons is great. They are quick to get up to speed and get the shot. I think this new camera has a place... not something I’m personally buying into. I want something with 1DXMK2 levels of performance with a modern video codec.

I'm looking to replace my 5Dmkiii, I use it every so often for jobs (my main work is video though). This new camera entices me because it's so light and since I'm always travelling with a ton of stuff if it can do what the 5Dmkiii can do in a smaller, lighter package (plus as a C cam, or extra interview cam with 4K) I'd consider getting it.

I had Zeiss lenses with the Sony A6300 and the Panasonic G85 and they never looked as good as when I would use them with ML RAW.

No lens will look as good as with MLRaw ;) . My Canon FDs look good on GH5, but they look amazing with MLRaw.

Maybe these older lenses just look nicer when you have a fuller colour spectrum, having 8-bit you loose a lot of that at which point you probably only focus on their short comings as vintage lenses (or at least rank them more in the sharpness/distortion category).

I'm not posting this bc I'm proud of it, but this is something I shot last night with 1x3 1504x1920... I got the viltrox focal reducer and the Tamron 45mm VC 1.8, in hopes of lessening the rolling shutter... Don't think it helped, maybe a little less of the vibrations, RS is definitely still there; yes, I know the walking shots were doomed from the get-go, I won't blame that on the camera. (Sometimes there are also still micro vibrations- I assume the VC is working bc it has a switch on the lens, can't image the adaptor somehow is disabling it?)

This whole thing has been pretty incredible to play with, and what Magic Lantern has been able to do is pretty incredible as well, but I think I may let go of this... aside from the RS, I just can't get past the live view... So many of these shots are out of focus because you can't really see much with live view... If you set to Framing as I do, the fps in the view gets really slow when recording and it's really really hard to follow the focus that way. If you set to real-time, the stretched image you see isn't even the center of the image so it's really kind of useless. I guess I might be ok with the 1080 settings (RS is a lot more manageable) but hate that its just short of HD, don't like having to scale up... if HD is all I'm after, I'm almost tempted to go and buy a used BM Pocket for $400, had that camera for years and loved it.

This is the second time I've gone out and bought an EOS-M bc of ML (last time was last Aug, back when 1080mv was the latest development)... Maybe I'm too impatient but I doubt the liveview will ever get better. If it does, maybe I'll buy the camera a third time and come back to it.

BTW, no pink frames for me at all with this shoot, and sd_overclock was on.

That image is f#cking lovely! Man every time I see MLRaw I'm impressed, I need to shoot more with it again.

Yeah but it looked pretty odd considering it looked like a normal sunny day where 5600k usually looks, well normal.

I haven't seen anyone else with the issue in any of the tests I've viewed (many), so I'm going to attribute it to user error.
I have no idea what was done, but it would be blatantly obvious to me at the time of shooting that something is wrong and it needs to be fixed (especially if I'm doing a review, partially because you want to give people a decent review and partially because you want people to take you seriously).

@tweak  Oddly enough the camera was manually set to daylight for every shot in that video.  Almost like the other camera in the video ?

All good man, but if I was using a camera and the difference was that noticeable I would manually white-balance it (or at least try so I could show that function to people), regardless of the camera I'm using.

I get your point about the camera not being easy to use (or perhaps even fully enabled) at the time of release, but I also think this camera isn't for you or the type of people who expect that. IMO those people should buy something like an EOSm50, anyone can use that camera and get respectable results.
Z-Cam are really open and transparent with how they are implementing new features and improving existing features. For the people that like the cutting edge and insight into the development of a product this camera is unmatched in the market right now.

Thanks for the effort, I just feel you (or possibly B&H) have missed the mark a little here in regards to what this camera is actually for and your review does a pretty poor job of highlighting almost any of the features that the majority of people would be interested in this product for.

I was at the Alhambra Palace just after Christmas and had to do a double take at one of the tourist parties being guided around as amongst all the iphones, GoPros and small DSLRs was a kid of about 16-17 wielding what I presume was his Christmas present.

    One of these...

I see quite a lot of kids his age with old film SLR cameras but never seen one brandishing a 16mm movie camera before.

My buddy is 18 and does top level work with this camera. I think kids are pretty interested in Analog again.
