Why would you need IBIS underwater??

I don't shoot underwater. I need Ibis to keep anamorphic and vintage primes stable on top of the water. Without it the shots are useless.

    monopod- shh! its a secret.

Show me how to use a monopod swimming where you can't touch the bottom... hahaha.

    Bwahahahaha.....

I can do that for you... just don't ask too many questions of how it works... blah blah blah.... just pay me and use it.

    p.m. me if serious.

  3. Memes are pretty funny, but Ibis is actually a huge thing (at least for me)... if there were a work around I'd possibly be shooting with a few different cameras over the GH5. Let me know how to stabilse vintage anamorphics/lenses in a waterhousing... we're talking big money.

Oh okay, I thought you meant that the ML team figured out a new recording format that uses MLVFS instead of MLVs. When I bought my 5D3, I jumped into a test short and due to the quality of the footage I was getting, the project has grown. So, I just continued processing the Raw Magic/Resolve/ProRes route. When this project is done I intend on trying MLVFS and also the 3.5K crop mode out. Has there been any ML progression with that?

Actually I was curious how you were getting along with the GH5?

I desperately need a new computer for editing. I’ve been working off a MacBook Air and I have had no issues with ML Raw. Like you, the 4K from the RX10ii bogs it down more than the Raw does and I’m not even using MLVFS yet.

Question though... do MLVFS need to run from the computer’s hard drive... and does it take up a lot of space? Or can I set up an external drive for MLVFS?

GH5 is fantastic, honestly it continues to blow me away. I think 5Diii Raw is still more appealing to me but I know people really love the high res look that comes out of the GH5 and now that I can get the colours right and have de-squeeze in camera it's a great tool for me. I basically use GH5 95% of the time. I use my 5Diii for photos now.

MLVFS takes up almost no space. You can also have the files you want to edit on a hard drive, they don't have to be on your computer.

MLVFS is a way to mount MLV video files into a ‘virtual drive’ on your computer, so the video files can appear as CDNG’s. Basically it cuts 95% of the time spent with the traditional ML workflow. Best to read the ML forum, and/or check YouTube for installation tutorial - it makes sense once you dig through everything...it is well worth the effort.

Highly recommended. Honestly using MLVFS with 5Diii/resolve is easier than shooting/editing 6K on my GH5.

true that, but to me anamorphic is not about convenience, it is about the look:)

Exactly. And as pointed out, most cameras like GH5 de-squeeze a 2x image, which is in the price range for someone buying an Iscorama (If you're using more expensive camera i.e Alexa etc, you'd just rent 2x lenses).

but i still can't decide between single focus and 2x squeeze, 2x is so freakin good, i just love it!

I can't really see the point in 1.5x, if you're going to all that hassle and expense you might as well go the whole way.

Hi Jonpais, i also noticed this, so I did a comparison in photo mode using a 25mm prime from panasonic. First I took a shot in 4:3 mode en the exif says 25mm is 50mm in the 35mm equivalent then I took a shot in 16:9 mode and now the exif says 25mm is 54mm in the 35mm equivalent this is the same crop as in movie mode.  So this confirms tweaks answer and is not a bug.

    Cool man, thanks for checking!

Without moving too far off topic, my first Sony camera ...

Then I had a VX2000, which I loved. Before moving to Canon and not having anything else really since, bar a GH4 for a short time.

I've been shooting a bit with ETC mode when I realized it was actually giving me more like a 1.37x crop rather than 1.4x. A comparison I did recently between the Sigma 30mm DC DN in ETC and the Leica 42.5mm f/1.2 showed that there was significantly less crop than 1.4x. The 30mm should have been 84mm with ETC, but it was 82mm. And shooting ETC with the Olympus 75mm, the camera was saying it was a 206mm 35mm equivalent. So I did some quick math and it turns out the crop factor is more like 1.37x, not 1.4x. That is, assuming there is zero crop in 4K mode, which most reviewers seem to corroborate. However, right now, I've got the Leica 42.5mm on my GH5, and shooting without ETC, it's saying it's a 99mm 35mm focal length equivalent, which obviously is not correct. Has anyone else checked this out? There seems to be a bug here or something...

Possible it's talking about FOV in a diagonal sense (which makes sense). Are you also thinking diagonally? Or horizontally? As FOV and hFOV will obviously be different. If you are talking about regular FOV then there is a crop on GH5 shooting 4K 16:9.
