Cinegain reacted to Phil A in 4K Films and Televisions
That was discussed just a few weeks ago to some length here in the forum:
The outcome: turn all "features" off.
Funnily my s/o's sister said she thinks it looks way better with the sharpening, saturation and motion smoothing cranked up. Seems the "film look" will probably die out in a few generations.

Leonardo Dalessandri's work is just a good example of craft. I know it wouldn't matter what camera you put in my hand, he'd still be able to make a better travel video with a GH3 than I would with an Alexa.
So, I use that sort of stuff as my personal benchmark. If I can increase my skill level to exceed the IQ of what he can do, then I'll consider getting a better piece of gear. 'Til then, I'll roll with simple consumer gear too for my own projects. Hey, if it's good enough for him, right?
I've been lucky enough to travel around the world on assignment over the past decade. I can watch that video and reflect that my own library has about 80% of the same type of footage. Is it shot as well? No. Is it edited as well? Oh, god no.
That's my perspective. Gotta learn technique and craft; get solid there, I'm still lacking. I ask myself, "You got a paint brush?" "Yes. Well, then paint." Worry about the bristles only when your skill demands it. I'm not gonna gripe about refinements that I can't even begin to take real advantage of.
...So hard to do when all I want is to acquire and play with a A7s!
More on point to Andrews charting of cameras, ergonomics, etc, I gotta say, the EM5II, after some getting used to, now really agrees with me for some reason. I just like shooting with it, taking it out of the bag and getting footage.
Like many machines, some just jibe, others don't. Don't know how to explain it. It's like a car or a motorcycle...

Cinegain got a reaction from iamoui in Samsung NX1 vs Sony A7Rii
Yeah, 'motion cadence' is something as non-quantifiable and vague as an image that 'pops'.
But it kinda has to do with the organic flow of frames following up eachother. Even though the framerate and shutterspeed are set the same, there might be a different feel to the motion with different cameras. Something you can't quite put your finger on, but kinda know its there. Not science, but magic.

Cinegain reacted to Shield3 in Merry Christmas! When this this forum become a NX1 chat spot?
Seems like every thread is about H.265 or the NX1. I thought this damn thing was being discontinued / bought by Nikon?

I seem to have found my solution... A bit bulkier and more expensive but flexible and still pretty run and gun.
On this website http://suggestionofmotion.com/blog/view-factor-contineo-gh4-cage-review/
He is reviewing a Cage for the GH4 but at the bottom he shows his audio rig.
Looks great for me.. Not too big no huge XLR connections to worry about. A video mic pro, A Wireless Lav Feed into a Device that splits it into 2 channels with Level control. Giving you 2 separate Completely in sync audio tracks. (no post syncing)
Just to test the the rig out I found this super cheap Pyle wireless system on Amazon ($15) and a $40 ish Mini Boom Mic

Ill test it out just to see how the whole thing works then get a more expensive one Probably this one if the sale continues till early January when im prepared to buy it.

character - yes . I was thinking about this the last couple of days when I stumbled on some old gh2 footage. it has something that the gh4 does not.

Cinegain reacted to Oliver Daniel in Poll... STARWARS WILL BE RUBBISH?
I enjoyed it, however, I'm finding myself getting less and less impressed with mega blockbusters, no matter how good the visual effects wizardry is. I think I'll put this down to desensitisation.
Most mega blockbusters have the same plot. Get a team of people together to beat evil, lose throughout the film, and win at the last second, just as everything blows up. Again. I find myself much preferring the Netflix Marvel series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones) above their mega big budget siblings. There's a lot more story and risk to enjoy. They feel more real.
Despite my blockbuster grumblings, Star Wars Ep. 7 was very well done and it's great to see vulnerability in all the characters, and plenty of humour. Everyone sounds and looks ridiculous...probably my favourite thing about Star Wars.
It makes the prequels look absolutely shockingly dire.

Heres my settings for the camera on these shots :
Saturation -2 // Sharpness - 10 // Contrast - 3 // Master black level 8 // 16-235 // For these frames I used the Canon 50mm f1.8 and Samyang 24mm f1.4.
As for the grading, I used no input lut, just the Sunderland (deluts) Lut at 100% // Fade 44 and Sharpen at 18,5 (though I will decrease this) !
As for the curves go, heres an image of how it looks, notice I also lowered a bit of saturation on the yellows and reds :
Heres a few more shots with this grading :
Some of these will require noise reduction, some are shot at 1080p others at 4k, and I will probably tweak further.
I find this grading very versatile, it fits mosty of my shots with little to no tweaking, outside, inside, church with those terrible lights and all that.
Hope you guys like it

He is at 2.5 hours without overheating. I guess we should never speak of it again. I can say I did not expect this. Good job Sony. Seams to me companies have started listening more and more these days.
