The jvc ls300 has a s35 sensor yet has a m4/3 mount so it should be possible but that doesn't matter as it is not the case with the gh5.

At film school, your professors are usually not actively working in the field.
So this WanderingDP - interview young up and coming DPs who share unique perspectives and ideas is incredibly valuable.  I learned a ton from the interview with Chayse Irvin, super talented young dp who shot the Lemonade Beyonce film.

If you're recording in camera the audio then the audio can't be THAT important?!
But if you must, then get a Shure VP83F LensHopper, Sony UWP-D11, Saramonic UwMic9, Zoom H1, Tascam DR22WL, Zoom F4, Tascam DR60Dmk2, or Tascam DR70D. (which one of these listed to get will entirely depend on your needs and budget as to which is best for you specifically)

All of them are very affordable, will hold long term usage/value beyond what a GH4 would stay relevant for, will provide an effective way to easily monitor audio, and provide better audio than a GH4 could do alone.

I had wished/hoped the NX1 would have gone down a lot more in price because it is so "old", but the hacking interest in it means the price stayed up higher for a while longer.
I got the NX300 when the NX300 hack was out (but pre NX1 hack I think?) and the NX300 was on sale, I want to have a play around with the NX system while I debated about buying a NX500 and NX1 cameras to switch my wedding multi camera set up from Panasonic to Samsung or even Sony. (in the end, I realised it is much better to not spend money and just stick with my current multi camera set up!)
Oh the video it not *that* terrible, just only by our 2017 standards. Is it any worse than an unhacked GH2? Nah.
And I got it so I could do 3D video with it (but never got around to doing it yet.... :-/ ).
In terms of implementation, I think it is quite nice and others could learn from Samsung.

I have the kit lens, the 30mm pancake (love pancakes! Although this one seems to be poor at focusing.. :-/ ), and the 45mm 3D lens.

Look very carefully at my qualifications of my conclusion about "maybe" getting a D500 over and above a GH4, as there are a lot of them! As I said at the end:
Basically for the stars to align I'd probably need:

    a) a strong "need" for a stills camera (such as GF leaving and no longer having access to her D90 for stills, as I won't live with her. And/or if I start to take photography more seriously as a profession rather than just a hobby)
    b)  a further price drop (down to around US$1K-ish-ish for a secondhand D500??) and for the GH5 prices to hold strong to the end of 2017, to increase the price gap between a D500 and a GH5. As for me, if a camera is cheap enough then that can overcome many many shortcomings!

Nah, in my eyes Nikon has much *much* greater adaptability across systems.

Because Nikon allows you to use their lenses on systems you couldn't otherwise (such as Samsung NX! Or a RED One MX! Easy and cheap to use Nikon lenses on them, but basically impossible to use Canon lenses!), or would be more expensive to use Canon (for instance with my Sony PMW-F3, is cheap to use Nikon lenses, and while it is technically simple enough to use Canon lenses on an F3, the cost is so very very high it is completely pointless for me!).

I think all the top of the line mirrorless/video cameras (of which the GH4 was surely one of those!) can now produce very fine images, as Tom Antos made that point recently in his 4K camera test for end of 2016:

Thus while moving image quality forward is indeed important, what matters even more is improving the existing functionality of the current camera and not having any stupid problems with them (hello Sony a6300... or hello Canon 5D mk4!!!). Which adding: 4K slow motion, 4K 30p 10bit 422, waveforms, vectorscopes, better EVF, full size HDMI, better XLR accessory, and much much more.... is what the GH5 does *right*!! :-)

Ha! Well you never know.... c) might happen!
And if it does, the D7000 is going for some dirt dirt cheap prices secondhand, and is quite a notable improvement over the D90. So I think I'd rather replace the GF's D90 with a D7000 than another D90. If I can swing the extra cash for a D7100 for the better video and extra megapickles, I'd like to do that instead of a D7000.
    f) is just dreaming, but it is good to have dreams & goals! :-D

D500 has already experienced a serious price drop, you can see it going new for under $1500!
Which means if you're a Nikon shooter like me, and if we lived in a world where GH5 did not exist (as obviously GH5 is now top dog over *EVERYTHING*!!), then the Nikon D500 is a very strong contender as the best video camera in its price bracket (beating out the a6500, and cheap enough than an a7S mk2 to make the D500 worthwhile, and also apply to mostly almost justify the extra cost over a G80).
Thus it isn't terribly hard to imagine a world where I get lucky and I find near the end of 2017 a secondhand Nikon D500 for US$1K-ish-ish, but the GH5 is extremely popular and holding strong at US$2K still at the end of the year (and the secondhand market is strong too, with not much of a discount vs new). Then yeah, if I've also swung a little more towards my photography side (at the moment it is pure hobby for me, and it is the filmmaking that is professional side of things, but if I was to take up a few stills jobs perhaps over the year?), then getting a D500 over a GH4 could become a very rationale decision!

But ha! You can see in this made up example it would require quite a few dominoes to fall down exactly in place....   as the GH5 is going to be a very hard camera to beat into 2nd place choice!

My money is on the GH5 being better than a Canon 5D mk3 in lowlight.
People for ages loved the lowlight capabilities of the Canon 5D mk3 and raved on about how important a so called "full frame" sensor is for that "lowlight ability". And the Panasonic GH5 will exceed that. It is the natural result of the forward march of technological progress.
Hopefully time will tell that Panasonic & Olympus made the smart move, with technology catching up to "full frame" level performance then everyone who wants a compact or lightweight system will go with Micro Four Thirds.
While those who want the "ultimate" will go with digital medium format instead such as Pentax 645Z or the new FujiFilm mirrorless medium format camera. (Especially as the relentless forward march of progress while within a few short years make digital medium format cheaper and cheaper, until even semi serious hobbyists will find it affordable at a stretch)

    Budget? Purpose?

Some fairly stock answers I could give straight off the bat, to give you a starting point for research (as I'm about to go to sleep, could be a while until I reply again!):

    Ultra low budget: Aspen lavs
    Low budget: Oscar Sound Tech
Low Mid budget: Tram TR50 & Countryman B6 (but given the fragility of the B6.... it more fits into the mid budget or even an "upper mid budget" bracket! As the B6 will have a shorter lifespan! The B6 is more of a specialist microphone, to be "hidden away in plain sight")
    Mid Budget: Sanken COS-11D
    High Budget: DPA 4060

Agreed, except in very niche cases/tastes, then Panasonic is way way *waaaaaay* ahead of the Sony/Canon/FujiFilm/Olympus/Nikon mirrorless/DSLR options!

However, I might go most of (or even all of) 2017 without buying a Panasonic GH5. Because:

    a) I'm happy enough with my Sony PMW-F3 / BMPCC / Panasonic G6 / Nikon D5200 / Samsung NX300 collection of cameras. They're "good enough" for me for now.
    b) I'm focus on audio at the moment for the short/medium term, so I'll like scrimp up every penny and put thousands and thousands of dollars into expanding my audio gear (and maybe my lighting kit a little bit) during 2017.

If I buy any camera during 2017 (as while I'll try hard to resist... it might/probably will happen! oops), it will likely be under one of these circumstances:

    a) maybe maybe maybe a self contained 360VR camera, maybe the Nikon KeyMission 360 if it gets a slash in price as I like how it is waterproof!
    b) if I am doing well and then "somehow" feel that my audio kit has grown to the point it is "complete" (ha! Could that really ever happen??), then I could switch focus back to the camera department and splash out on Panasonic GH5!
    c) if I split up with my long term GF who I live with, so I lose access to her D90 :-/ :-( As my D5200 can't do AF for photography for many of my older lenses! Thus I might pick up a Nikon D7000 for cheap secondhand to replace the "missing" D90.
    d) if I spot a Micro Four Thirds camera (specifically: G7/G80/BMMCC) going for a *very* sharp price! As maybe I might want to join the 4K world a little earlier than 2018 after all, and pick up one of these fine 4K cameras on the very cheap such as during the 2017 Black Friday Sales. (or the BMMCC which is not a 4K camera, but I've got my fingers crossed it might go on half price sale like the BMPCC did!! As it would make such a sweet sweet companion to my BMPCC)

    e) if I spot a non-MFT camera (specifically one of these 4K cameras: a6500/NX1/D500) at a very very *very* sharp price! (as my preference would lean towards MFT, as I've got a bit more MFT gear, plus all the MFT cameras are much better value for money! Thus non-MFT cameras need to get a bigger price drop to make themselves as attractive as a MFT camera on sale)
    f) if for some reason I find myself rolling in money.... I'll get a Kinefinity Terra 5K, or Sony FS7, or even a Panasonic Varicam LT! haha

Take Cinema5D's reviews of Panasonic with a pinch of salt.
They have been salting in praises of the Sony Cameras and have a disdain for Panasonic's Cameras. They didn't even review the G7, the GX85 and so many other ILCs, whereas they used the Sony 5100 and so many others.
Also they calling the DJI Inspire 2 Arri Alexa rivalling is also ludicrous.
Probably it was an easy way to get a few free DJI  Inspire 2 Drones.

I don't think the video released yet is an indication of all of the possible IQ advantages this camera will give.
If you need 4k/60p for fast action, you can't really do that with the GH4 or any other camera. Also, the IBIS may be a difference maker to some, and some would say this will make a difference in video quality.
The oversampled 4K (full sensor) will likely yield the sharpest video yet out of MFT. Not to mention the grading advantages of 4:2:2 video. It's tough to argue that wouldn't make a difference in IQ.
Also, as previously mentioned, you can do 5K video (using the 6K photo mode) with 1:1 pixels, which will likely yield sharper video than the GH4 can produce, with minimal moire or other artifacts. And it's also full sensor. This is entirely independent of the 6K anamorphic mode that's coming in the future. So, there are definitely two ways to shoot beyond 4k, and either of those modes would give you an additional capability to add further stabilization in post, and still output 4k video.
