You know how bigger cameras give more stability to the image due to their mass than small little shaky point and shoots?

    Well bingo!

Bet you won't need IBIS with a camera this big

I don't mind if the mount is MASSIVE! Always them to put a crop Medium Format sensor into the body in the future?

    31 - 23 = 8 seconds

With some more maths about what we know of the speed of light.... we can calculate the body size of this new Nikon camera!

Bang on! NR said 23rd of July

NikonRumors is much better than many of the other rumor sites in my opinion, been a reader of them for many years.

Damphousse you prove my point. Nobody is beatifying Trump.
I agree 100%. There is no middle ground. The internet has shaped public discourse into binary positions, like 1s and 0s.
People are are getting very confused to be quite honest....for example Damphousse above is conflating my opinion and endorsement. Opinions do not equal endorsements.
We're going through an era of western society which is not exactly our finest, and tribalism is taking over amidst all the kerfuffle. One is profiled for one's opinions constantly. For example I might be a liberal, Trump hating centre-ground voting British person, but if you state just one fact that people might misinterpret endorsing him, you're painted into a corner. Same with jokes. Make a bad taste one and it can be used against you in your career.
Today, people misinterpret everything as personal... it always has to be personal! Opinions! Hang on, one could just be stating a fact.... But people will link that in their head to you endorsing the subject. And to hell with context.
An example: Hilary Clinton ran a poor campaign, that's a fact. She lost, that's a fact. It could be interpreted as me being pro-Trump or as a personal opinion.... But she did. She was simply a poor campaigner. Unlike Bernie Sanders. The US is tearing itself apart over Trump and political ideologies. Corporate group-think has a lot to answer for too... Disney can't let themselves be associated in a binary argument with their values at stake vs some shitty joke on Twitter. Of course it's more complex than that... context (stream of thought and his tweets leading up to the jokes), meant as humour, not real, cyberspace, loose talk, banter - the public simply does not take this into account (it's small print and not in the news articles) so Disney had no choice but to fire him.
    That is truly scary groupthink.
Here's a personal opinion of mine... this isn't a proven fact, but I honestly think our binary society is being noticed by our enemies. It is being weaponised by the Russians. If we don't sort ourselves out soon and come to our senses, they will rip right through us. They understand propaganda very well and are pitting us against each other. Liberal vs Conservative. Young vs Old. Canon vs Nikon. Windows vs Mac. They are exploiting the online landscape with bots, fake news and fake users, to cause toxic discourse. Some of them are on this very forum.
It's happening everywhere, not just in the US. I haven't heard people talk about much else than Brexit in my home country for 2 years running... That is scary, and to be honest pretty weird. Most people aren't political, but today we are reading politics into our every move and every thought.

I recently wrote an article about PC and online hysteria, I quoted Andrew and added some personal element. I don't know the story of M. Gunn, but I also came to the conclusion that Trump won based (among other thing) on a counter reaction of the abuse of non-sense. Saying that doesn't mean that I support Trump because absurdity (Trump) won over non-sense (the distorted PC). The reactions of my  article were priceless, It looks like I was homophobic, member of the far-right and... anti Trump. That's a lot for me !

Yes, one can think that SJW and Trump supporters are stupid, at the same time!!! As Trey Parker (South Park) said:
"What we're sick of—and it's getting even worse—is: you either like Michael Moore or you wanna fuckin' go overseas and shoot Iraqis. There can't be a middle ground. Basically, if you think Michael Moore's full of shit, then you are a super-Christian right-wing whatever. And we're both just pretty middle-ground guys. We find just as many things to rip on on the left as we do on the right. People on the far left and the far right are the same exact person to us."

Unfortunately there is no middle ground anymore. The problem today is that some people just want to get stuck in their world and can't even read a sentence correctly. Facts don't matter anymore. This is not a liberal or conservative issue. Both side are equal in this stupidity.

    This story is symbolic:
The author (Andy C. Ngo) is a serious reporter who writes for mainstream newspapers. He had to face very strong reactions after his article covering this story (and the guy is a Vietnamese refugee and gay.. no exactly the Steve Bannon type of profile...)

I think it's important to talk about it because it affects the creative process of many artists.

Rather shoot with a Sony PMW-F3 (sub $1K cameras!) than a RED ONE MX!

The competition was not as intense back then.

A side screen for camera op or AC would make more sense? I guess a top screen is a compromise between those two because they can't choose which of those two sides to go with?!

It's pretty dangerous to defend Gunn though. given the current climate.
Now I'm starting to realise why the buffoon wreaker Trump won the election. People are genuinely sick of the hysterical PC climate and the impact it has on real lives, yours and ours careers, and our art /freedom of expression.

Absolutely..  sound design is massively important, and we can tell that because Silent Movies are not common, but Blind Movies (aka, music) is a $17B industry!!
But, to be a bit less tongue-in-cheek, it's a hell of a lot harder to make people cry or jump around (dance) with a silent film than with music

Obviously, this camera is still in the prototype stage, evidently with two guys doing most of the developing.  Hence, there's not much to expect in the way of "marketing."   However, from the videos on their YouTube channel, it seems like they are making some progress.

Cinemartin has fabricated a physical housing that doesn't seem fully functional yet.  Again, it looks like they might be building on the innards of the Ximea machine vision camera.  If so, Ximea has done most of the heavy lifting in regards to hardware development.  Not sure if even the Ximea camera has been released.

To the Ximea model, Cinemartin seems to be adding:  a display; internal recording; battery connectivity; cinema software controls; software scopes; LUTs; open api (and/or open source OS); and digital stabilization.  Judging from the proportions of the prototype housing, Cinemartin might have spec'd a main circuit board that differs from that of the Ximea.

At any rate, I will likely wait to consider shooting 8K for personal projects, until this camera is miniaturized down to the size of an EOSM and until 8K can be edited on a Chromebook.  "4K ought to be enough for anybody."

The comment threads on Newsshooter are awesome, the exact opposite of what someone trying to break into a highly competitive market should be doing. He should sell the Ferrari and hire someone to handle the PR/marketing.

Yes. And the problem is broader than that, just in general people just don't give any time into sound post or bother finding or respecting the skills needed to it

Too many directors/producers just leave it up to their visual editor to do it, just doing a tweak here or there to the levels if that.
Or nearly just as bad, they *do* attempt to take sound post "seriously" and find someone different dedicated just to the task of sound post. But many producers/directors seem to think just because someone is an expert musician / DJ / music producer / whatever, then they'd be good at sound post! Nope, they're radically different fields.
On a proper budgeted film they might have a team of just sound dialogue editors and assistants as part of the wider sound post team. (just look at the credits for the size of the sound post teams, often bigger than for the visual edit!! If you exclude CGI etc. Just out of my own curiosity I thought I'd go double check my gut feeling on this by looking at half a dozen of the most recent on IMDB's top 100. And yup, in every case the post sound department is a little bit larger than the editorial department! Of course I'm not counting VFX people here, which is a HUGE number on modern films!! But then again I'm not counting the music department either, which can be a length credit list for some films)
It is like thinking a photographer would be a good cinematographer! lol. Or visa versa. Yes, they have some overlap with their skills, but in the end they're each their own deeply specialized fields and are totally different to each other overall. And you're just taking a pot luck random shot at luck as to if one will be competent at the other (and you're extremely unlikely either will be great at the other's job, but until they get some experience under their belt first).

Unfortunately I've lately been hit over and over again with experiencing crap craptastic sound post, quite demoralizing when I put all this work into crafting the most golden possible sound files I can under the conditions of the shoot. But of course at wrap I then must hand them over, and it is out of my control. Only to much later on see and hear the final product, which leaves me wondering wtf happened??

IronFilm reacted to Tone1k in Is a Sony FS700 still worth buying in late 2018??
I have a very early preorder on the Pocket 4k but what I still like about the FS700 w/ odyssey is the internal ND's, two proper XLR inputs, a great quality monitor, S35mm sensor, 4k 50p and even 4K 100p in burst (I'm in a PAL country).
Yes, its a bigger/more cumbersome  rig than the pocket4k, but then sometimes that's a benefit. I also shoot a fair bit on Red and that's no less cumbersome than the FS700 w/odyssey. I'm not going to pretend the FS700 is ergonomic but it depends what your use to I suppose. Also, I can't really see myself using the Pocket 4k in its basic form all that often anyway. I would need another monitor mounted to it as the non tilting built in one is unusable when using a cinesaddle or any position you can't see the screen straight on. I would also probably want a mattebox for ND's (not a fan of VariNds). Battery life May also be an issue on longer shoots and then I'd brobably want some sort of small cage with top handle for handling. Are these issues for everyone? Of course not, but for my use, the FS700 may still be the better camera of the two but I'll evaluate that when I have the Pocket 4k in hand.
Some of the work I do uses the Sony F5 and f55 as an A Cam so the FS700 cuts in perfectly with them.
While the c300 does shoot lovely images, it's frame rate limitations made it a non starter for the work I do.
Please don't get on here making it sound like I'm bashing on any particular camera, I'm just outlining why one camera may be better for certain people.
For me, the FS700 is still a perfectly great camera today just as the FS7, f5 and f55 are. The FS700 w/odyssey punches far far above its weight and judging it on its age or current second hand price is just wrong.
I'm seeing FS700's w/ Odyssey's including 5+ batteries, 4x512GB CD SSD's, full cage etc going for $3500 AUD. I can't see the Pocket4k being any cheaper once I add a second monitor, batteries, the equivalent 4x500GB Cfast cards, ND's etc...but right now I can't be bothered doing the math.
What I am looking forward to with the Pocket4k is the colour science and the compressed RAW options.

It's not enough anymore to say the C300 "creates great images" because, at this point, you can use a $500 G7 to create great images. Are there things about the C300's image that are better? Of course, but when it comes to the standard of image quality, virtually every camera maker has gotten to the level where you can get results only dreamed about 10 years ago AND on a budget!
We truly are fortunate / spoiled, given we're even able to have this conversation!

One thing I noticed about YT microphone reviews (from people who don't know much about audio) is that they tend to be judging the EQ of the microphone instead of the quality of the sound overall.  I'd hear a microphone and think it would be fine with a bit of EQ and then the person would say something like "it sounds thin and hollow - not even usable!" and I'd just roll my eyes.
@IronFilm is this something you also see across lots of reviews?
In a way it's like filming in RAW and then saying the camera footage looks "too grey - not even usable!!".
