  1. You could pick up the pre-ART Sigma 85mm for next to nothing second hand. Do that while you wait for the ART version of the Sigma to come out, or for Rokinon 85mm AF to come out?? (14mm and 50mm AF are already coming)
  2. Still well ahead of any Blackmagic Design schedule! Haha :-D
  3. Plus it is always handy to keep the Phantom around as a back up to the Inspire!
  4. How the heck did he have an AXE in the studio??? :-o
  5. Yes you should get a few dozens/hundreds of hours of practice with a DJI Phantom or similar before buying an Inspire
  6. ***WAS*** Now it is more like US$1.5K secondhand. Still an absolute fantastic camera, and the best value one in its class today even in 2016.
  7. Check out the XK X500 or Yuneec Typhoon. Both very affordable and you could lift a Nikon DL18-50 or even maybe a BMMCC under it. Giving you way higher quality than GoPro footage.
  8. Or even better (hopefully!) the Kinefinity Tera 4K when it comes out!
  9. Exactly. Please point to where XAVC-Intra 24p is demonstrated as worse than FS7 raw 24p? Everything I've read and seen does not demonstrate that. As nobody has used the FS5 with the firmware upgrade and an Odyssey, we really can't say.... I'm inclined to say that the FS7 will still be a better choice. And FS7 is certainly is currently a better choice if ultimate image quality is what matters most. However if Variable Internal ND / 240fps slow motion / HD (more than 4K) / small size is what matters most for you, then perhaps maybe the FS5 is a better choice than an FS7. Otherwise in almost all other cases go with FS7 instead.
  10. Maybe Craigslist has moved out of favor in your area? I am sure there are still places. Try Facebook groups perhaps?
  11. Any of those options would be a rock solid option, as you're mainly a wedding (& other stuff) photographer I'd lean heavily towards the first one. As the Nikon D750 is the current dream camera that is king for wedding photographers, and can be found for some great deals now. I'd be looking to upgrade that D90 to a D7100 as well sometime later on as budget allows it later on. Then you'd have a waaaay better B cam (for photos OR video!) with the D750 Although hmmmm.... you're rather light on lenses at the moment. I'd want to bulk up those range of options as well (such as a 70-200 and a Nikon 85mm f1.8D etc... depending on what you do)
  12. Holy crap, where are you shooting and what?? :-o
  13. Arguably "new camera award" and "most promising camera award" mean similar or at least overlapping meanings, so I'm not too picky over this.
  14. Good luck at enforcing all those many "no cameras" signs we see now!
  15. X5r is insanely expensive, but I would prefer it (but at that cost... ?? Nope! Better other options). If you mean the X3 though as it appears.... nope nope, rather stick with the LX100. Plus the other gimbal is more versatile and you can use it with other cameras too than the LX100.
  16. That doesn't change my point at all however! If you understand even just a little bit of programming / systems engineering, and realize the radical gulf there is from the base of development ML had, then you'd easily realise what does not and does fall into the camp of 'highly unlikely'.
  17. Having a link there would've been handy ;-) So here we go: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AputureUsers/
  18. ML however was building on the years of work from CHDK, and ML raw was building on the years of work of ML itself. They're basically kinda rewriting the firmware from scratch. While the Panasonic and Sony hacks are rather more like the Sony F5 hack, merely tweaking a line or two of code to enable what is already there! Thus I'll be healthily skeptical as to if either will ever be making the large leap to raw video out of a mirrorless camera. (but we can still dream! :-D But I expect to see pigs fly first)
  19. It becomes a much easier upgrade to go from a (hypothetical) Terra 4K to a (hypothetical) newly announced Terra 8K, when you already have the various KineMOUNT adapters / the backs / handle / etc various other accessories, and just need to buy the body itself, and you already have developed a strong confidence in the Kinefinity brand from having used the (hypothetical) Terra 4K so much already. But to leap on a (hypothetical) newly announced Terra 8K from scratch? Hmmm.... that is much harder (and more expensive!) ask for many folks to make the leap of faith to do when there is no local support at all (either official or even unofficial! As there are too few people using it to provide even a local unofficial support network of users).
  20. Yup, this is what Kinefinity should do. Get a very low priced product (US$3K or less, or even under US$2K in an ideal world) that gets Kinefinity's foot in the door and gets people hoping onto that upgrade path onto Kinefinity's higher end cameras (such as Terra 6K or KineMAX). I bet BMPCC has done huge huge wonders for BMD in getting their name out there, and people adopting their products. (and BMD already had a sub US$3K camera before the BMPCC ever shipped!)
  21. Personally I think the A7s mk2 is in a tough price spot, as that is such a large chunk of change to buy an A7s mk2 when an FS5 would be so much much much better! Yes the FS5 is even more expensive, but by the point you're at this level, the extra overall cost vs the revenue you'd earn from it in the next couple of years, I don't think it is such a big difference (of course the FS5 is itself in a tough spot... when the FS7 is only a little more than the FS5! And so the slippery slope continues.... I've seen F5 go for amazingly good prices secondhand? Or how about that F65....). However.... A7s mk1 are now going secondhand for heaps cheaper than A7s mk2 would cost. And as you just want good quality HD, and don't care about 4K. Then it seems A7s mk1 is the obvious choice over the A7s mk2. The BMMCC is the most interesting of them all. It is very new so not that much info out there, but already a few interesting ways to rig it up: http://cheesycam.com/custom-mods-for-blackmagic-design-micro-cinema-camera-w-diy-remote-handle/ And with time even more and more will be made, by third parties such as Zacuto or Wooden Camera (and then knock offs from China after that, at a fraction of their price). Am especially looking forward to rigs with handles that communicate with the BMMCC! Plus the BMPCC has already been favorably compared with and shot with RED cameras, the BMMCC is following in the BMPCC's heritage, I'm sure you'd like the BMMCC in some role or another. It would make for a great B cam on RED shoots as well! (such as an action camera, or drone camera) Final thought for high quality 1080 footage: Sony PMW-F3 with BMD Video Assist (or Samurai Blade). Don't think there is a better bang for buck 1080 camera than that! (can go for as little as US$1500 or less secondhand) Is the one I own and frequently shoot on myself. Together with a BMPCC (and have a Panasonic G6 for the ultra low budget shoots :-P ). EDIT: Final final thoughts: How about a Kinefinity KineMINI 4K? A battle tested one loaded with all the options is available now for a mere US$3.5K!! :-o That is a downright insane deal for so much camera! It has the option of interchangeable mounts, raw 4K, slow motion, uses cheap standard off the shelf SSDs, can use focal reducers to get that VistaVision / Full Frame look. Could be perfect for a RED shop where the productions doesn't have the budget to use their RED.
  22. Hopefully! I kinda want to get an A7s mk1 as my "matching" gimbal camera with my F3. Am borrowing an A7s mk1 for the short film shoot this weekend down in Hamilton. But mostly I'm trying hard to resist buying any more camera gear! Or at least not until levels of paid work improves for me. All good, gives more time for the A7s mk1 secondhand prices to drop even lower ;-) And wouldn't it be a miracle if the Sony Hackers discover Sony left an option for internal 4K in the A7s mk1 firmware but it was disabled and is a simple switch to turn it back on ;-) :-D
  23. If the client "needs" 4K then I can easily enough borrow a GH4 or similar from a friend for free / dirt cheap, otherwise if they *NEED* 4K then they ought to have the budget so I can rent an FS7/F5 and do it properly. For everything else.... there is the F3! (plus with a small gimbal camera, in my case the BMPCC. But an A6300 / A7s mk1 / BMMCC could all also fill this role cheaply)
  24. I do hate those idiots unnecessarily returning purchased items, and increasing the costs for good honest folk like myself. I doubt Pocket 2 is coming any time soon at all, as BMD does not have a history of releasing "v2" of cameras, have they EVER done that? Nope!! Instead BMD has a habit of releasing products which fit a slightly different niche than their previous cameras. For instance we never saw a BMCC v2, instead they released a 4K (BMPC4K) and smaller version (BMPCC). Ditto the BMPC4K, no BMPC4K v2 got announced, instead they announced a bigger more full featured camera: URSA 4K Ditto the BMPCC, no BMPCC v2, instead a BMMCC got announced. That is too slow. That is wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy TOO SLOW!!! Only use SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s cards. And nothing else. I can't find anywhere the pricing for this new Ikan VL35 monitor?!
  25. I think by far and by far the best ultra affordable option is the Aputure FineHD VS-2 monitor, however it is a little big... wish they had it available in a 5 inch option! http://www.newsshooter.com/2015/12/21/a-7-full-hd-hdmi-field-monitor-for-less-than-200-aputure-launch-vs-1-finehd-monitor/ Keep an eye out for the Nikon DL18-50 Has a fast f1.8 lens, large 1" sensor, shoots 4K, and has a *MASSIVELY WIDE* 18mm FF FoV!! :-o Much much wider than the 24mm on the RX100 IV, and better if you want to use it as a PoV camera with a very wide FoV. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1234156-REG/nikon_26512_dl18_50_f_1_8_2_8_digital_camera.html Ohhhh..... that is one cool benefit of the BMD Micro over the Pocket!
