Cameras should not just be about making money. That's how an art-form gets boring. That's how it dies.
Yeah, but I'm a business person first, artist second.
I need to pay rent, eat, have a family one day, and build up savings for the future.
Which isn't easy when filmmaking can be a very expensive business with fluctuating work! -

BMCC battery

V mount or BP-U60 is another common option

Just get yourself a RX100 II dirt cheap, and keep the other money saved up for when the RX100 XVII comes out next year after next.

Wait for the D750 mk2!
Or buy now a D500 / D7500

Fully ?% agree that Nikon should have released the DL18-50!!
Would have been a massively kick as camera for real estate or drones.

Cheapest? Good?
Yeahhhhh..... you have a bit of a contradiction there!!
Oh wait, it gets worse.... :-o
It is going to be an on camera mic?!?!
Sorry, that is only ever going to make this even worse :-/ That should only ever just be for reference on a scratch track.
As mic placement matters even more than what microphone you use! & putting it on top of the camera is a damn bad place to put it.
But if you are looking for a very affordable microphone that is incredible bang for your buck then I recommend the Aputure Deity.

Agreed...this alone will keep me away from this camera...unless they develope it as an optional mount instead of the EF...like BMD did on their first Cine cam
Hopefully Panasonic will see people's reactions online and then tweak development to release a locking Micro Four Thirds Mount version!

@IronFilm I wouldn't call any Canon codec as "shitty shit shit".
If it was in a DSLR we're talking about then perhaps you could make excuses for Canon and try to explain it away.
But for the price of the C200 that is indeed a very low end codec inside it.

The lack of internal raw is incredibly disappointing. Even Canon is finally jumping on the raw train (finally) so to see Panasonic lag behind in that regard is rather disheartening.
The C200 is in reality a crippled camera that aside from raw (and let's wait and see how well/badly it is implemented) has a shitty shit shit codec inside it.

Sucks so bad the Panasonic EVA1 lacks a Locking Micro Four Thirds Mount (like a baby made from the union of the JVC LS300 & Sony FS7 mk2 mounts).
Panasonic has blown a massive opportunity to provide an upgrade path for their GH users as they progress through their career, & was an opportunity to grow Panasonic GH5 sales at the same time.
However credit can be given to Panasonic for blasting out of the water the C200 which Canon just announced, but that fact should surprise exactly no one.

Nope, 4.6K sensor never came to the "big" URSA (much to the annoyance of their owners!!).
And the BMD 4K sensor is a big step back from any of their other sensors (heck, I'd rather use a Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera than a BMPC4K!). -

And the c300 mk ii
For now, it is safe due to the codec... But once the c200 gets the full range of codecs... What next for the c300 mk ii... Gotta be worth $7k tops?
There are tonnes of little details that the C300 mk2 has which always will make it more worthwhile than the C200 for some small subsection of shooters, Features such as Time Code for instance.

Is your BMCC a MFT mount or EF mount? As if MFT you can add a focal reducer, if it is EF then you are out of luck!
I'd suggest you look closely at:
The new Panasonic Varicam when it gets announced in a few days time.
Canon C200
BMD URSA Mini 4.6K Pro
Secondhand FS700 + Atomos Recorder of Convergent Design
Sony PMW-F3 (very nice, dirt cheap, but not 4K)
RED ONE
JVC LS300 -

I imagine alot of RED's budget pre-orders are being cancelled today.
True, I could see a fair few Raven pre orders disappearing. Even though a Raven would probably have a total cost of ownership of close to double a C200!

At the wonderful CineGear Expo show on the Paramount studios lot in Hollywood, we will find out if Panasonic have messed it up by putting the Micro Four Thirds sensor in there or if it will be a proper Super 35mm sensor with EF mount and therefore a direct competitor to the Canon C300 Mark II at a much lower price (thumbs-up).
I would not mind at all if Panasonic releases it with a MFT sensor, *if* that means the camera can hit a very low price point such as say US$3.5K??
Who wouldn't want a GH5 with built in NDs, SDI out, TC, and XLR for US$3.5K! -
You can never record at a higher quality than at what is outputted. I don't care if your recorder can do 128bit deep 16x16x16 color space at one Terrabyte per millisecond! It still won't do better than whatever the camera is outputting it at, that is the limit.

It is a dangerous loop to argue that because Canon cameras were used in Sundance thus Canon is a good choice.
I bet many times in those instances a Canon was not chosen for technical reasons (or only weak reasons), but just simply because Canon is the common/"standard" choice they've seen many people go with.
Thus it is a self reinforcing loop you're buying into here, that feeds and allows Canon to cruise along doing nothing much.

All good points. And yes the C200. Wonder how much canon will hold back on that one lol. They usually hold back a lot of features on the lower models.
This is why the new Panasonic cine cam excites me. Panasonic doesn't hold back as you can see with the GH5.
Agreed, wait a few days and see what Panasonic announces! Will hopefully give you the best of both worlds.
JVC LS300 or Sony FS700 would also make interesting worthwhile supplementary cameras to your C10010 hours ago, DaveAltizer said:C200 will more than likely have dual pixel autofocus, built in ND, flip out screen, compressed 4k, canon colors for the same or less price of a 1DX II. Seems like the perfect compromise to me.
But a C200 / C100 mk3 probably will lack TC or SDI.
Will only get FHD 120fps if we're lucky, or maybe do something twisted like 120fps but in 720P.
Will have 4K, but will be 4K 24p / UHD 30p and be 8bit 420 (maybe it will even be cropped like on the 5D mk4?? Kinda doubt it, but no kind of crippling Canon does would surprise me....)
All for a price even higher than the current C100 mk2!
Which one: A7Sii vs SONY X70?

If you wait for the a7S mk3 then the Panasonic G90 or even GH6 will not be far away.... so of course you should wait for Panasonic's better implementation!
But by then the a7S mk4 won't be far away.....
Where does this endless circle of madness end??? :-o
I reckon you should just buy a Panasonic G80 (which is a very fine camera!! Better than just a GH4), then shoot the hell out of it for a couple of years, then come back here and you'll have a much better idea of what you want to get next :-)
