  1. Oh yes, that #2 is very famous in New Zealand! Awwwwkard #1: phew, was rescued!
  2. Yes, I know, filmmaking would be much cheaper if I was in the USA :-( But I don't think I'm as far off as you think? Except perhaps for the 1D C.... as I went on sold eBay listings, the cheapest for a 1D C is over US3K. So if they do exist for $2K... they don't come up often, or these are listings in places a bit more obscure than eBay. (such as Craigslists, but then you need to be local to pick up the camera usually?) You originally said C100mk2, which is different. And I said C100mk1 are easy to find under $2K (I even shared the B&H sale where the C100mk1 was selling *new* for even less than $1750!) But these are the 4K sensor? Or/and without the software. (although less of an issue now they've dropped the price) And I excluded the 4K sensor in my comment, as that wasn't BMD's greatest work (which is why you can find them so cheap!).
  3. They do that because they only see the world as back and white: shorts or features. Nothing in between. (in other words, medium length ones do not exist) But realistically, folks out there in the rest of the world don't see a 31 minute film as a "feature film"! Sure, if you also list all the failures! And consider the ratio between the two. Agreed. If you go under 70 minutes people won't think of you as a "feature filmmaker", and if you go much over.... well you're putting in extra work for no gain! (but yes, of course if your story really needs that extra ten minutes to tell the story completely then make it be 85 minutes long) If there was 30 page script, I'd say it probably is too far off from being a feature? Either split it up into episodes for a web series if you can. Or go super aggressive and "kill your babies" to get your script well under 15 minutes for a really nice and tight short film.
  4. If they're going to use Nikon batteries again I'd hope for Nikon EN-EL15 (same as in D500, and lots of others), which are a lot bigger than the ones in the Pocket! Or pop it on the back like the Micro, with NP-F batteries (which give lots of size options). Or BP-U batteries, like FS5/FS7/EX1/EX3/Terra/etc use (and also comes in many different sizes). I'd rather the recording was internal, to SanDisk Extreme Pro cards. So then you have many many more options when it comes to monitoring (as you can use just a normal monitor, not monitor/recorders).
  5. BMD has been better lately with shipping products more promptly, the BMD URSA Mini Pro was announced and immediately available to buy: http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/03/02/blackmagic-design-announces-the-ursa-mini-pro-with-built-in-nd-filters-and-user-changeable-lens-mounts/ But why would you want to do that?!?! I can offload footage from Sony PMW-F3 via USB, but I only do that because an SxS reader is kinda expensive and sometimes I forget my SD/SxS adapter, so I use my SxS cards in a pinch.
  6. I can't come even close to producing work as good as the best DLSR videos from 2015, I think I'd do fine if I was given a D850!
  7. Are we going to get one thread for every month of the year? I reckon the GH1/AF100/GH2/GH3/GH4/GH5/etc has already done that! (although the EVA1 was a bit of a let down....)
  8. Z Cam E1 already has this feature ;-)
  9. Ahhhh ha..... very minor spoiler warning: The shot with a BMCC in it, that is also in the trailer, appears right near the end of the film itself. Sadly I can see now it is a BMCC with an EF mount :-( Maybe that is why they needed the GH4! (for any and all wide angle shots)
  10. Absolute proof a BMCC was used for part of the film itself: Although from watching that, and other BTS videos, seems a mix of cameras were used: Phantom + GoPro (for an underwater shoot!) + Panasonic GH4 + ...a Canon?! (but seems that might have only been for stills?! As I only see it on a neck strap, hanging around a guy's neck in the BTS videos. But never being used for filming with) Oh, and I see a Beholder gimbal being used (with the GH4). Also, from watching the BTS it has become quite clear why the audio is sub par. Indeed! Good way to make a film. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Transferable_(film)#Filmmaking_model Basically is a mix of tourism related funding or other sponsors (such as Land Rover) + featuring a few YouTubers (which helps then with sales). Smart way to go about it. And yup, it features Turkey a lot and a *LOT*! But the great thing is it is done in a totally non-obtrusive manner, as it is just the setting where the film is. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/shira-lazar/how-do-you-make-a-movie-i_b_9298634.html
  11. Ah my bad then, but my point largely remains... they're kinda rare at those prices. And there is the whole issue of news vs secondhand. Some are fine with taking that risk (I am), but others are not. Plus the C300mk1 vs even the original current GH5 has a lot of downsides: no 4K, no 10bit, no slow motion (and in reverse, the C300mk1 has a number of advantages: NDs/SDI/TC)
  12. Strange, I would have expected that scene from the trailer to be early on in the movie, yet forty minutes in and I haven't spotted a single BMCC! Hmmm... maybe it was in the trailer, but missed the final cut of the movie?! Certainly feels like a fairly low budget production (sound is bad!! Well, by my standards), so yeah... quite likely it was shot on a BMCC as well?? Who knows. The first twenty minutes was quite bad, bland cheesy terrible low budget rom-com, but from the twenty minute period onward it improved quite a bit. As the two co-leads have great chemistry (and the male co-lead doesn't show up until 20 minutes in).
  13. We all believe the GH5s will come in at sub $3K, and at probably significantly less such as say $2.5K So with those prices in mind, let's look at those other cameras: C100mk2: If you're lucky you'll find it for around $3K, but $2.5K? Unlikely. Perhaps you are thinking of the original old C100mk1? (which will be even cheaper, sub $2K easily) But both these cameras are 1080 cameras, which serve a very different niche of shooters. C300mk1: no way are you getting that for less than $3K (except maybe in PL mount). And again, this is an old 1080 camera, which doesn't even have 4K, doesn't have 10bit, and doesn't even have 60fps FHD slow motion! BMD URSA Mini: again, no chance of finding this under $3K (unless referring to the 4K sensor, which is widely seen as BMD's worse). Canon 1D C: that won't be selling for under $3K either. 5Dmk3: now we're finally starting to find something which will sell in the low to mid two thousands (maybe even less than that if lucky). But you'll be dealing with a heavy crop (and no lenses or focal reducer to match with the sensor), and a terrible codec (which is still only 8bit 420), and the DSLR form factor. Sony a7R mk3: nope, won't find that cheaper than a GH5s.
  14. "Not going to happen"??? IT HAPPENED!! :-D The Nikon D850 came out, with a tilt touch screen. Shows people can never really be happy :-( By 2015 standards the D850 is "as good as it gets" for video!
  15. I'd disagree, because all the things that makes a GH4 "better" (such as anamorphic, YAGH, or 10bit external) a budget minded sub $1K buyer is not going to be buying a secondhand GH4 for! Thus that then leaves instead all the things the Panasonic G85 does better instead, which makes it the better buy in the end.
  16. Did you mean perhaps a few weeks earlier.... on April the 1st?
  17. You can clearly see it here in the trailer at the one minute mark, with a Rokinon Cine lens: But was the film itself filmed on a Blackmagic?!
  18. With his current two lenses (because they're both FF. How did you exist with nothing wider than 24mm on APS-C?? :-o ) he could very easily transition from the D7000 to a D750.
  19. If Panasonic includes in their warranty a promise I'll never buy another camera for five more years then I'll buy this camera for sure!
  20. It is for life. I will never stop! But then again I have no choice. Why cook three times when once is enough? I started this diet prior to the paleo etc craze catching on. So was quite interesting seeing this rise in popularity for something which I'm already doing. (As paleo and LCHF can be very very similar) Indeed, when people hear the word "diet" they think of it as a short term thing which lasts a few weeks. Maybe a few months. WRONG! It should be much longer than that, a diet is about how you live your life. For me, the decision to do LCHF had 0% to do with weight loss. Although this turned out to be a nice side bonus benefit of the diet. As prior to the diet I was somewhat way overweight at 95kgs (but I am 6' 3"). Then quickly lost weight once on my diet.
  21. Fantastic! I hope you stick with it. Have been doing strict LCHF myself since 2011, with only one meal per day usually. Best.Thing.Ever.
  22. I'm hopeful that $199 is a sustainable price point they can offer again in the future (or at least $250). As I have my fingers crossed that VR will take off for me in 2017, and if it does I'd love to build up a 360VR E1 rig.
