Why do you have a mix of cameras there, did you have a B cam op shooting at the same time? Smart! I wanted to take that approach and resist buying any more cameras.... instead focusing on lighting! But then I broke down and couldn't resist the sale on the Z Cam E1

A rigged up Sony PMW-F3 mostly, but needs to also cope with at times even heavier cameras such as a fully rigged RED ONE. As I explained above, if I'm ordering from B&H (instead of direct from China) then very quickly the total costs becomes easily DOUBLE what it is for Americans (or worse!) That is no good for me. :-/ I need 100mm bowl legs.

The Z Cam E1 with the GH4 4K sensor is under $200 after all ;-) And it is now MINE :-D Even though I'd been promising myself not to ever buy any more cameras....

I've been watching that get listed on eBay for a while now. The F23 is almost identical to the famous F35, except the F35 has a S35 sensor (thus the name! While F23 has a 2/3" sensor). In fact almost all the F23 bodies got sent in to be upgraded to a F35, but still a few F23 remain. The really tricky part would be next to get suitable lenses for its mount/sensor. (if you find a set of DigiPrimes going dirt cheap then snap them up ASAP!)

For a 100mm bowl tripod, those are dirt dirt cheap! It is interesting to ponder the more recent price changes of the Arri Alexa Classic as well, as if a person had purchased one a year ago they'd now have lost US$3K ish of its value. That is a steep price drop! But the camera still has retained a lot of value at around US$9K ish, so will it keep on dropping by $3K every year?! (one could wish! ha, in only three more years I can get one for free :-D ) Or might it even speed up, or slow down, or plateau out completely? Anyway, I'm sure if a person has a good client base it wouldn't have been hard to make more from the Arri Alexa Classic over the past year than the $3K of depreciation you'd have lost on it.

Won't deny the BMCC MFT (don't talk about the BMCC EF... ick!) is *amazing* value for money! But if you've got a budget and shooting for work, then an Arri Alexa can still make a *lot* of sense with all its many benefits over a BMCC. As even ten thousand dollars, if you're constantly shooting with it, is nothing at all really when spread out over a couple of years of shooting.

The flexibility in grading is the major benefit of 10bit, nothing to do with the final delivery spec.

Did sound on a short film with a Panasonic Varicam LT earlier this year, and yeah the DoP was able to run quite a small lighting package. Was the first time the DoP was doing a film with the Varicam LT, and had borrowed it as he wanted to give it a spin before deciding 100% or not to buy one himself. He has gone for it! Has sold his Sony FS7 workhorse, and has been shooting with the Varicam LT now for a couple of months. Arguably the Varicam LT is "the best" high end (ignoring the ultra highend: F65 etc) camera right now (but at a mid-high range price!).

Ah I'm not meaning the internal mics, never would use them! I mean the audio input.

To sum it up: "risk minimization". When you're spending millions on a movie (or tens and tens of thousands on a 30 second ad spot), then you don't want to take unnecessary risks. You go with the tried and proven.

How terribly bad is the audio input with the E1? Good enough for casual vlogging? Highly HIGHLY doubt it was used with an external recorder. Because not worth it, and defeats the purpose of using a GH2.

Getting a mic closer will make a bigger difference than anything else! (except: having a good shooting location! Which is quiet) Now if you don't have anyone who can hold the boom for you, then wireless lavs are unfortunately your only option. Am so tempted to get it just so I can say I "have a GH4"! :-P Quite sad really how high the used prices are for a BMPCC, when I purchased mine brand new for $500 If new prices had stayed being available at that price point, then I'm sure now today around two and a half years ish later, we'd see used BMPCC for sub $300 or yes even as low as $199 secondhand! If so, then in a heartbeat I'd buy an extra BMPCC, or two! Also wish the BMD Micro Cinema Camera would go on a half price sale :-( So keen for that Pocket Cinema look with 60fps slow motion! Plus of course full size HDMI would be great too.
