You're still able to post, jon! I thought you'd well and truly put your dick in the hornets nest earlier

Youtube doesn't allow re uploads as far as I know. Its not like Vimeo. Unless they have changed it recently, when you take down a video it is down. As are the stats, comments, likes and dislikes.
I for one thought the test above was ok. I did my first 4K vs HD a couple of years ago and just like now, 4K vs HD on youtube is hardly visible, depending on the camera used.
In HD they don't have as much aliasing either.

Read the comments. They are better than the article. It is more hype than truth even on IR's part.

All is good my man, I never hold grudges more than 5min/time. Life is too damn good (and short)
It sounds as if the 16-55 might be for me. Im finally getting the 90mm f2 today and thinking that the two together would be a killer combo.

No worries @jonpais, something about camera talk seems to bring the demons out in people ?
I'm gonna try and avoid all talk other than trying to better my skills and knowledge.
On a side note, I just took delivery of an Edelkrone wing, oh damn, this is a cool slider! Gonna be a fantastic tool to keep constantly attached to the tripod.

jonpais reacted to Yehouda in Are cameras without IBIS and AF useless for shooting video in 2018?
The real question is "Can we use techs like autofocus or IBIS on a film set ?"
I live in France and I can tell you that many people are very conservative about that. They say that you can't use AF because movies are only made with cameras which have PL mount with manual PL glasses so for them it is literally impossible to use AF. Even worse, many people think it is forbidden!
There are many exemples of great movies made with DSLRs and photo glasses. If AF works why don't use it on appropriate situations? If IBIS is relevant on some case why don't use it? When I said to some peole it was a pity that P4K lacks AF and IBIS they replied "it is a cinema camera so it is normal if there is no AF and IBIS"... wow... It is time to break the old rules!

You can call it whatever you want. If I read what I think is hypocritical bs, then I'm going to call out who ever said it. I don't care who it is, no one gets a free pass.
Now you are being somewhat disingenuous. You sell luts, and you have adds for them on every thread for them. The Forum and your articles (including the rants), drive page loads, and thus add views, it's SEO 101. So please don't try and act like your mother Teresa, or some benevolent parental figure who's just looking out for all of us
Yes the forum has educational benefits as just about every other forum on the net does, but you are not the sole person people learn from here. Personally I've probably learned more from other members than I have from you.
I know it's a different camera. However i think you missed the point ( @jonpais, and mine ), you didn't mention RS, and now you are saying you didn't mention it because in your opinion it "isn't problematic".
DPR has a different view.
https://***URL removed***/reviews/nikon-z7-first-impressions-review/7
Should DPR publish and article on their take on your "initial thoughts"?

It was clearly a tongue in cheek joke ffs.
I'll leave you to it... wasn't attacking you in the slightest.
I like this forum... you've done a good job... but you have seriously thin skin... it is obvious why manufacturers don't reach out to you and it's nothing to do with "telling the truth"... you're just way too erratic and emotional.
This is not good in 4k. Same as canon

O please Andrew how are you any better?
Its seems almost any time you think someone has slighted you, you lash out with self destructive negative behavior. As @Drew Allegre mentions the BM fiasco is a good example. Not to mention what I quoted above looks like nothing more than a tit for tat, attempt to make @jonpais look bad.
IMO, you deserved to be called out what amounts to a "take down" piece about other reviewers not doing a good enough job, when you yourself didn't mention it in your initial piece/review either.

jonpais reacted to Jimmy in Top 6 videos on EOS R with combined 2 million views and not a single mention of the rolling shutter in 4K
It's a good point... I understand andrew's passion about Canon, but if he wants to position himself as the voice of truth, then he has to put that same passion towards the faults and virtues of all cameras.

Do you really want to own both Sony AND Fuji lenses??? Neither of them is particularly cheap, to be honest.
Also, dealing with Sony aps-c lenses AND M43 lenses might be a headache, too.
I don't own a GH5 but maybe the AF would not be up to your needs if you are trying to use it on a gimbal. otherwise, it's a heckuva camera (as far as I can tell).
@jonpais linked to a video by wolfcrow on why he wasn't going to review the eos r nor the Nikon Z7. Basicaly, he kind of said that worrying about 10-bit or 4:2:0 vs 4:2:2 was less important than codec compression. (Just one man's opinion, so take it for what it's worth).
Anyway, if you were going to stay in sony land, then probably an a7III might be a good option for you. Doesn't have the best compression. Doesn't have 10-bit. Doesn't have 4K 60p. Doesn't have 4:2:2. It's like a camera from the Middle Ages or something. And yet, everyday people somehow make great looking videos with it. Go figure...
Personally, for ergonomic reasons, i think I am going to leave sony and either move to fuji or Nikon. Although i change my mind about 18 times a day.

I guess its the Kubrick or in my case Tarantino inside me that really is trying to like the X-H1. I would love to just stick with it. As a tool it easily ticks all the boxes. Specially with thr speedbooster. But Im missing that thing that makes me want to create with, not just get from A to B.

Disclaimer: I dont like or want rolling shutter. I love the motion from the videos I shot with the global shuttered D16 and BMPC4K.
A fun fact I've told many times before, still applies so here it goes again
One of the top, if not number one, TV shows in Sweden is a game show called "On the track" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/På_spåret).
Its a quite difficult show with questions about everything from food to sports in different geographical locations.
Its been going on since 1987 with an average of 2 million viewers and a peak of 3.7 million.
In 1990 when the record was set that accounted for 43% of the population. Remove those to young and/or to old and we get pretty much everybody.
Three times every show we get to watch an up speed train ride and the camera is filming from within the train. It goes on until the contenders guess where the train is heading. So every week 2 000 000 people watch bent poles, crooked houses and leaning towers, for at least ten episodes per year.
Never ever ever ever, not once, nope nope nope, no no not a single time have I or anybody I know ever heard anyone point it out or simply said "have you noticed the bent poles?"
Camera nerds like us of course see it but no one else cares even a little bit.
My point is, if a camera ticks all your boxes but has a flaw like aliasing, RS or a bit of noise in the shadows.
Then maybe its still good enough for your audience.
Imo it I rather have a camera I like with a bit of noise in the shadows than a camera I dont enjoy.

jonpais reacted to A_Urquhart in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
So by your theory, BMD should have taken away 10bit, RAW, XLR, etc from the Pocket4K because it is in a similar price bracket to cameras that don't have those features and to compete, it needs to copy the specs of the other cameras that are the same price. Do you really know anything about business?
It's like comparing a $40,000 four wheel drive to a $40,000 sports car and complaining that the sports car got stuck on the steep, loose off road section and should have come with a four wheel drive mode because it was the same price as the 4x4. Utterly ridiculous! Two cars, same price, completely different categories.
Generally, people don't categorise something just because it's the same price. If you do, then good luck to you. Many here would't compare the Pocket4K with a smartphone as while they might share a similar price, they were designed to do different things. Two decades in the industry should have taught you that. I know it has for me!
All the best Emanuel.

I have never got that either.
I have found that in many instances Sony colours are more accurate to reality and in many cases people prefer Sony colours in blind tests.
I think it comes down to People getting used to Canon and Nikon colours more over many years and liking what they knew.
I have never had any issue with any brand for colours for stills and for video, I just use what I get from the camera.
Besides, there is always a much bigger difference in what I see between the various computers, monitors, TVs I look at stuff on.

jonpais reacted to Robert Collins in Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless talk hots up
I certainly get the argument that there isnt much inherently wrong with the EOS-R that you cant find a work around. I can also see the rationale - for those with a large collection of Canon lenses - to say that it is the best mirrorless option out there for them.
The problem as I see it, is that the 'shortfalls' in the EOS-R that we see seems to be indicative of a far greater 'structural' problem at Canon - I dont think they will magically disappear with the next mirrorless release. As I see it, cropped 4k, terrible rolling shutter and 120fps at 720p with no autofocus are mostly a function of the fact that both Canon's sensor tech and its processing tech is well behind the competition (and there are similar arguments for its stills.). (I dont really buy the 'avoid crippling' its Cinema argument.)
As such, it just seems an incredibly big 'ask' to try and persuade anyone who isnt incredibly entrenched in their ecosystem to invest in a brand new mount.

lol... well the fs5ii stock profile has a better highlight roll off so maybe we will see that in the a7siii
then buy a camera thats 1:1 readout and not oversampling.. like come on.
