And with the 1DX Mi Canon demonstrated they could bring the 1DC to market for half the amount that they did. Both cameras are essentially the same and employ the exact same sensor. The 1DC's circuit board adds a headphone jack, heat sink...  there is also a slight difference to the firmware. ChaChing! Mark my words, if there is a 1DC Mkii (and I doubt there will be) it will tip the scale at the $12-14K mark.

The biggest issue with life is that there is no structures, no resolution, no ending.
    There is no order.
It's a mass of complete randomness, where being good or bad does not matter.  Some times you get caught, some times you don't.
Just an endless mess, floating in space, a turtle's hallucination.
Vs film - a good film - it takes you on an emotional complex journey - a window into characters that are interconnected and with emotions and ideas that matter.
    It all matters in there.
A good film can be better than life itself, just like a good book, a good video game - an experience that elevates you to another place.
With the scam chapter on this camera nerd site not closed - it will never be closed.
It will continue forever.  There will never be a resolution.  The scam artist will not learn his lesson and become a good human being.
Life is strangly unwritten and messy and frustrating and we're all just floating around in it.  Never to know what we should have done better.

I think Dwayne Johnson is going to surprise people in the coming years. When he was first trying to breakout, we saw he was interested in being part of riskier, more art-house productions. And after struggling to be taken seriously (and trudging through the likes of The Tooth Fairy and Escape from Witch Mountain), I'd be willing to bet he's going to use the clout he has now to stretch and participate in some more thoughtful/compelling/cutting edge cinema. I doesn't hurt that he's a genuinely good person too, and deserves his success. I put he and Keanu Reeves in the same category: they've both built up so much goodwill in the industry and with their fans that (despite any perceived limit on their acting chops) that they are bulletproof to critics.

    This is a great thread.
Cinema changed in the 90s. The era of international box office. Tentpoles.
    Then the marvel franchise.
The dumbing down of films for the sake of larger global transcultural appeal.
    And it works.
People watch the latest superman reboot again and again.
The only major studio that took risks....pixar....now has become a merchandise company thanks to disney buying it.
Vote w your wallets. Say no to tent pole!

Way too expensive for a fully manual "slider".
I'd also be weary of Edelkrone. I've owned the SliderPlus, Pro, Action and Wizard. Their products are often flawed, especially when it comes to the tolerance of moving parts (which is critical).

    SEO experts are expensive.
A ton of cash on a team of writers and people to cover trade shows and criss cross the planet in business class interviewing reps.
Flights to Japan to cozy up to the industry.
Slowly but surely money drowns out the others who aren't in bed with the industry, their backers and sponsors.

I am just a guy with an independent voice in the world of camera reviews without hundreds of cozy ties to people from the manufacturers, without ads splattered all over the screen, without sponsors on my every video, yet still I find EOSHD mired in a world of cut throat rivalry. Only very occasionally like in the beginning with DPReview have I been given a leg up in this industry and even then it only takes one person like Barney to massacre that relationship too. The other blogs like NoFilmSchool, Cinema5D and NewsShooter spend 10's maybe even 100's of thousands of dollars trying to punt my homebrew EOSHD site into oblivion and I just find the whole thing utterly distasteful. Rather than offering a new talent an opportunity they instead I am treated like just another commercial rival to be beaten.

It draws in a large audience, no doubt, maybe even more than a film these days, but I don't prefer it or anything.
I've heard some filmmakers say they're "switching" to tv.. and that's just baffling to me. Maybe it can work that way for comedy or if you include mini-series as tv, but for me the best part of a film isn't the viewing experience or budget or anything, it's the ending. The Graduate, Reservoir Dogs, A Woman Under the Influence, The Departed, Primal Fear, Drive, etc - the ending is what makes the whole thing count, and shows you they were competent the entire time. And tv shows made without an ending in mind often flop when it counts. Most shows jump the shark, and the very end can be even worse. For Lost, the important part was definitely supposed to be the ending.. which turned out to be.. who even cares? it was so-so. Purgatory or something. The end of Dexter nearly killed the whole series for me. Breaking Bad, ugh. I'm slightly embarrassed to say I used to watch Pretty Little Liars, 80% as a joke, but I was curious who A was.. turns out it's no one! Or everyone.. the writers don't have a freaking clue, and it shows. Scenes From A Marriage is an amazing show, but if Bergman wrote the first episode and then let new writers swoop in and carry it to nowhere for 10 seasons.. and then try to end it with JUSTICE, kill me. Season 3 of Sherlock was a mess, made me wonder if any of it was ever good. Anyway, too many examples.. For a comedy, I don't care how it ends, especially if it's episodic, like Cheers - and those endings are so much easier, just pat yourselves on the back and say goodbye to your fans.
I AM, however, very into Girls and Love. And to a lesser extent, You're the Worst and Casual. The genre those all fit under I think has real potential. Not sure what it is, but it's a great tone, very human, and I don't particularly care where it's heading. but again, none of them have ended.. I'm a little scared what may happen. And I have noticed a little drop in quality of Girls in some of the latest season episodes I think, but their good stuff is so good, I can forgive them. anyway, those are my 4 cents

    Hi,
I have a Canon 550d/T2i + Sigma 18-35 1.8 which was too heavy/big for my purpose (my trips, concerts, hiking and some events)
    so I got the GX85 with 12-32 kit lens + Lumix 20mm 1.7 pancake (+ Tiffen Ultra Contrast 3, thanks @Jase)
now I can hang the camera in my shoulder without noticing it (I am soooo happy!!)
I am new to filmmaking. I've been on vacations in NYC and took the time to learn how to use the camera (trial and error), I read ALL the post in this topic (took me a while!) and learned a lot from you (color grading, filmconvert, luts, A3G3, White balance, downscale 4k, 25/50 vs 30/60 fps, flickering, iDynamic...) Thank you a lot to everyone.
Still I need to learn so much and I have so many questions.
     - Do you guys know if Andrew Reid is going to have another GX85 review soon?
     - Is there going to be a shooters guide for the GX85? do you think the GH4 guide will work for me?
     - Is there any other guide/tutorial you would recommend (GX85 / filmmaking)?
    Thanks!

I had this lens and was quite happy with the performance, actually rather surprised it was sharp at f2. I used it with a mitakon lens turbo focal reducer on the a6000.I returned it not because of performance issues but because I wanted a different focal length at the time. Also the build quality and focus ring were quite good for the price. These are some random test photos I remember getting with the lens at f2 or 1.4 considering the focal reducer.

I would also like to add if there was a negative about the lens I would say it would be character. I often felt even though the image was quite sharp it lacked that pop of my vintage nikon lenses. Then again that could be a good thing if you want a more neutral image in the first place.I would definitely get the lens again.

I jumped in the pool and the water is great!  I have a BM 4K, but like the files coming out of this C500 better. It is hard to beat Canon color science. In my opinion color science is the essence of the image. When they packaged the C500 with the 7Q+ for what seemed an incredible price of $11,000 - $12,000, then Convergent Design ran a Summer special on the Raw Codecs....  I could not resist and pulled the trigger.
I have not played with it much yet, just shooting test shots side by side with my BM 4K, both in raw and Prores. They are both very sharp cameras, but the C500 brings much more to the table like better color, higher speed, in camera NDs, works with all my Canon glass, EVF for bright sun. no sun spots, almost zero noise, great low light work. This is truly a professional camera. The 7Q+ is a fantastic monitor as well as a recorder. When my brother (who shoots also) saw the quality of the 7Q+ oled monitor, he summed it up in one word...... Wow! So far everything works as advertised. I cant say enough a bout Abel Cine for helping me put it together.
I have been busy completing the build with a Tilta/ redrock rig and should do more shooting soon. And I hope to put up some links.

He's been around forever. Used to be a speech writer for Reagan. Was married to Ann Coulter who is another top notch troll. Just go back and look at his old writings/twitter/books. He claimed Obama was a secret Muslim who was planning on destroying America. I've read some of his books on religion which are actually pretty interesting. He's a very smart guy but he's gone totally bat shit crazy in the past few years on conspiracy theories. He was arrested for campaign fraud and is crying out that Obama is after him, and sent his minions to arrest him.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not a super political person and I respect all points of view but the people like him and Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Moore, (sometimes) Bill Maher are just bad for the country. They cause so much unnecessary divisiveness.
It's actually quite sad b/c he used to be one of the best debaters around. He would debate Christopher Hitchens frequently on religion and hold his on. Hitchens respected him and they were friends. He wanted to debate Richard Dawkins but Dawkins was hesitant. They finally debated on Hawkins terms (which was prerecorded responses). Great debate.
Just in the past 6 years or so he's gone kind of crazy and paranoid. Such a bummer.

It looks like it since the price went up.    I think someone over at bmcuser mentioned it isn't compatible with Wooden Camera's speedbooster foot, although Smallrig has their own support for Speedboosters.    Not an issue for me yet since I'm using native lenses.
I e-mailed WoodenCamera after seeing they revised their Micro cage and was offered a brief explanation for the change and a 15% for the new cage but declined.    I intimated having seen their gear in person and was impressed with the build quality, to which their prices certainly reflect that; I get they're competing in a niche market and aren't selling them on the shelves at Walmart, however, based on the poor fit with their initial cage, I explained I don't think I'll be purchasing anymore WC gear in the foreseeable future.    The quiet revision coupled with no means for the initial buyers of the first cage to purchase maybe an upgraded sideplate(Based on the pictures it looks like they removed one row of mounting holes to free up more space on the control side), left a poor impression in my mind.
Thanks again to Zak and others who submitted ideas during the design phase.

So this scam is stupid because the money doesn't go into her account.  Also I typed the subject line into google, and 4 other people had the same email - via rolexes, etc.  The poor scam artist could have at least modified a few words!
The better scam I almost got hit on years ago is on a macbook pro I sold - he sent the paypal, and he gave an address.  fedex noticed that address was an abandoned area of town, and the only reason I got the laptop back is that he was at lunch when he was supposed to be there to grab the computer.
So they steal the computer, then they report to paypal they never got the computer and then , they have the computer for free.
    ___

    The above guy was lazy.
Anyway, in the internet age, there aren't burgulars anymore or pickpockets - there are online scammers.
Imagine if someone came to your house and stole $1500 from your place.  you would freak out.
    how is this different?

I don't want to reference anything that went down on this forum, but this got me thinking because the person who did the fraud said he would refund money but he hasn't and he probably won't because he's involved in many, many camera scams.
He probably has at least 10 going at all times.
He probably also has some hook up in the USA and preys on people like my wife - with his knowledge of cameras too, he can be a pretty convincing buyer.
    Anyway, the internet sucks.
People scam people on it a lot.
Because there is no face to face communication.  A person doesn't know what it feels like to get robbed of $1500 online because they never see that person.
No one knows how it all feels.
    Anyway
I really wish Andrew Reid would jump into this.
i feel like we all have PTSD from the event.
I know I probably encouraged some of it.  But I still feel horrible especially now that I know that one of the scam victims still hasn't gotten his money back.

He introduced me to blackmagic, because when I searched for blackmagic in 2014 his vimeo channel came up all the time.
He started with, if I remember, the pocket and then moved on to the cinema camea. He built his own light systems and taught himself pseudo 3d animation to complete his money shots. His talent was his wife. Who, if I remember, was a painter or photographer, I don't know, but she was not shy. Yes, it sounds like a 'latching on to success' post, but really, I thought he was very strange. But I wathecd all his early videos like a hawk because he had, what we call, 'talent'. He got hired by some agency based on his shorts and I thought he was gone. Then a week ago I see  promo for a film BASED ON HIS SHORT.
To me, he is an inspiration.
His movie is trending worldwide, its called Lights Out. Look through his videos to find his inspiration.

Most people seem to use dynamic perception gear for time lapse use, but the possibilities for video use are very competent, providing the camera payload is relatively modest. Yep, the Graffik software and the ability to patch into dragonframe for stop motion work is a massive plus.
