It's SCARY that Corporates and Not Authors, have been pushing Copyrights to a Century and beyond. Copyright should only exist for a few years (10-20) post the authors death. After that its just corporate terrorism.
Also it's scary how corporates and the big artists caught for copyright theft aren't punished more severely.

If his macbook worked fine for him he doesn't nessesarily need a big update. A used one that was a gen or two after his would work fine and probably save him a lot of cash.

Truth is I never use proxy. But I think you can import your footage, asking to make Proxy versions. While those are being rendered, you can just edit in Original/Optimized mode. 4K 50p and h265 surpass my old Macbook capabilities. I should use Proxy for those. But I hope I will be able to get a Mac Mini or an iMac with six cores.

Being poor I have tried so hard to like DaVinci, but I can't. FCP X is so smooth even in my late 2013 Macbook. These new Macbooks seem good, I can't understand how they can legally sell soldered RAMs and SSDs. Oh, they don't even pay taxes...

In light of the recent arguments on EOSHD I thought it'd be cool to think about how awesome it is to be a filmmaker/videographer in 2019 going into 2020.
We don't have to settle for crappy 8 bit anymore on anything less than $5000, we even have multiple cameras that shoot compressed raw and/or ProRes for less than $2.5K! We have lenses from 3rd party makers that not only don't suck but are better in some cases. Wireless monitoring and follow focuses are affordable now!? What!?  Our options for post are incredible, too - We have Final Cut and Resolve that are rock solid and Adobe... Adobe sometimes doesn't crash now! ? Frame.io and Vimeo review help make working remotely way less frustrating We get to bash Canon while shooting on Fuji/Sony/Nikon/Blackmagic instead of bashing them because we have no other choice And on top of that all we have places like here where we get to talk about it all and get help and share our sometimes very strong opinions ?
I hope you guys see my sarcasm where I sprinkled it in. I encourage you to go ahead and post what you're grateful for:

I blame the director...  looks like they took people who were nervous and behind the camera by choice, and then filled their heads with all the "talk slowly but not too slowly" "stand up straight" "be funny but not too funny" "remember to do these 17 things..........." pieces of helpful advice their heads could hold, then probably finished it up by adding ".......and just relax and enjoy it!"

    Don't dwell on it.

If your film is good enough, it's not an issue. If they want to show your film, they'll find a screen for it. If they don't want to show it, the fact that they have a spare theater with the right aspect ratio isn't going to magically make them want to screen it.

It's "Misty."  Jazz Classic.  So much of a standard song that Clint Eastwood made a movie around it.  The tune is by Erroll Gardner.  For my money the best rendition of the song is from Ella Fitzgerald.  Best sax rendition?   I'll go with Sonny Stitt.  Saginaw, MI represent!
Look at me, helpless like a kitten up a tree...
Anyone want an internet rabbit hole to go down?  "Misty" will take through the pinnacle of mid-century American music.

I finally released my last feature in streaming. It's now on Amazon's Prime Video here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZHRZ782
    It's a Drama/vengance/thiller type
I little bit of history with this.
I started to shot this film in the end of 2013 (yes almost 7 years). It took almost 3 years in production. It was shot with a couple of Nikons DSLRs and Super 16mm film. Since it's first screening in the Mar Del Plata International Film Festival in 2016, the film was going around thru some festivals and other screenings. It finally got a theatrical release locally (Argentina) in march this year. It's preaty hard to get distribution to some "kind" of movies.
As you can see, this is a very looong process when you are a "newcomer" in the business, but you just to keep pushing.
I still have in plan try to reach some other platforms. Only time will tell.

There is about 2/3 - 1 stop improvement in dynamic range with HLG over Flog.
I am unable to tell if there is a difference in highlight rolloff.
Difference in noise?  I usually shoot at isos above base.  So I am unable to comment if there is a difference in noise.
One other thing about shooting HLG on the X-T3.  I am less prone to getting some unusual magenta casts in highlights with HLG.  The disadvantage of HLG is that you must record H265 and one has to transcode the footage to improve editability.

I'm happy to report the "crushed blacks" problem with X-T3 H265 files on 2018 Mac Mini (with T2) has been fixed in OSX Catalina.
I am back to editing HEVC from X-T3 natively in Final Cut Pro.  I am using a stock Mac Mini i5 with only 8GB memory and get smooth playback with the viewer set to "better performance".
In Catalina the scopes show the lowest black levels being set at Zero IRE or above, whereas in Mojave the blacks were actually going down to about -10 IRE and but getting cut off at Zero IRE. (This was only a problem on Macs with T2 chip?)
No need to transcode to ProRes and reset the black levels manually anymore!

In fact, technology arrived to a point where most of us have cameras that have equivalent or better IQ that the equipment used in our all time favourite films. About the beginnings of RED I remember that a lot of normal videographers bought a RED camera + accesories, thinking they would become either Kubrick or Warner Bros. That was not the case.
Cameras are tools, I can't imagine carpenters talking about hammer or nails...

I think part of the appeal of red is buying into the myth of Red.  And part of that Myth is that the CEO, Jim Jannard, is the Elon Musk of the camera world.  A genius badass disruptor.    When that myth gets lifted, with jinnimag videos, consumers, especially those who own thousands of dollars of gear, those who bought into the myth of red get upset.
Especially in the past three years, when 4k is now the norm, and Red no longer has higher resolution as a selling point, and when cheaper cameras like the blackmagic ursa mini pro and c300 ii and fs7 can get people to an image they want for a lot cheaper.
When Hollywood now primarily uses the Alexa over the red. It's almost a mythical choice.
But yea, now as we find out how much of a liar and Barnum-like con man Jim is, more stuff like below will be discovered.
When he was the CEO at Oakley, he was involved in the Lance Armstrong doping scandal. He most likely was a bully who "encouraged" his employee to lie under oath.  Maybe not what people expect in a leader.  The type of person who could point blank lie to several companies about the origin of his camera components and would have no problem manipulating his users. More of this will come out.
And at what point will the myth of red vanish, and will cameras go back to just being cameras. Tools used to do a job or create art?
Where camera comparison tests from CML have more effect on a buyer than the feeling one gets from holding a camera or if it feels like a status symbol?
