Why? So we can become even more polarized and you can safely live in the echo chamber of your own head? The benefit of debating is to convince others on the fence to heed your reasoning vs the other debater.
There is no reasoning with someone who tosses out "Trump is a white nationalist" as an absolutism. It's such an illogical foundation for debate that why should anyone who isn't a sycophant even bother. What a waste of time.
Had you started with "Trump doesn't seem care that actual bleeding white nationalists are using his persona to embolden themselves. Here's why I believe that's dangerous" then maybe we could have a productive discussion. Or you could create inspiring art around that. But you didn't, so we won't.

I hate this kind of thing as much as anyone right of center, but I find Google's tracking/advertising/manipulation practices to be more concerning especially considering their political clout and market share. The online advertising market is a straight up duopoly right now between them and Facebook.
But unfortunately, they're king when it comes to many things on the internet.

It seems JCS is simply requesting that we as filmmakers make extra effort to make our films/videos have positive meaning. Left, right, up, or down, I think we can agree that's something to think about and is certainly applicable to a site full of filmmakers.
I have discussions all the time with people about the purpose of film and whether it's our responsibility to be positive, refrain from opinion, just deliver entertainment, etc...
    I think it's worthwhile discussion.

Nothing at all. Just stirring the pot by tossing around some vague platitudes. Political art should inspire healthy debate. Debating with people like him is like reasoning with a black hole.

I obsess over image fidelity, skintones, and motion cadence.
That is a political act. - no it's a technical concern
Because im an upper middle class white guy so i am allowed to do this. - no as it's open to anyone who is interested in the technical side of image making
So are most of you. -  - no we are not
Its called white priveliege. - no it's not
And we are not in a vacumn - speak for yourself ( it's vacuum BTW)
The president of the united states is a white nationalist and is wrecking havoc. - quite possibly but what has this to do with any of the above esp as his support base is largely lower class white ( ex) workers
And where are we? Defending a photo company that discriminates against women and race. - who, what ?
    Classy. - just delusional
BTW as a 'self-confessed' upper middle class white guy the system of privilege you so despise seems to have failed you spectacularly with regards to your education in basic  spelling and grammar........

ed, heres a protip: acting like a 5 year old online, under your real name, is a very bad idea. people who might want to hire you based on your good work will start to vet you, and within seconds theylll discover that youre a huge pain in the ass online, and they will wonder: How much worse is he in person?
i thought that maybe youd turned over a new leaf. time to grow up dude

We also live in an age where brand new billion dollar industries are created in months, not decades. Where information has never been more accessible, plentiful, or instantly available. Where people like me with absolutely no formal film, marketing, or business education can start a production company that is responsible for the well-being of not only myself but others.
There will be no return to the glory days of 1950s-era manufacturing and middle class single income union jobs. They're gone, that culture exists only in memories, and they're never coming back.

I hate it when I'm watching a tutorial or how-to and the actual how-to part is behind several minutes of pointless blabbing. 8 min video for something that could be explained in 30 seconds or a paragraph. That's the bane of limitless capture.

People have argued and debated on the internet since the beginning on USENET (even before on dial-up BBS's). One reason people are in a much more dramatic space is due to the constant negative divisive programming coming daily from mainstream media and the frequent reminder of world war III starting with N. Korea. India is now in a standoff with China. At the same time the US government is under assault from the so-called deep state, run by the bankers looking to hold onto power after the impending global financial reset. Consciously and unconsciously this results in an increase in negative behavior online.
We can keep our heads down and fiddle with our cameras and gear, or we can get out and make films and videos designed to bring unity, show how we can work together, how we can survive when the financial reset happens, how we can survive if WW 3 happens, and even better how we can all stand up and voice our global desire: war is not an acceptable solution to the financial crisis.
If this is one of the last forums where useful information is shared and people get along, then the pattern is an example to apply to other forums, news site comment sections, Facebook and so on. Now more than ever in all our lifetimes is the time to figure out how to work together non-competitively and with kindness, for the survival of everyone.

The audience shifts over time and keeps evolving with the site. NFS have written pretty much nothing but articles designed to reel in clicks so their audience has shifted to the lowest common denominator of people. It's what you get if you have to pay for your visitors or entice them with headlines, rather than building a community around real content and real filmmakers / enthusiasts.
The people left online overall are the same as ever, not just trolls but real people - pros and artists still use the internet, they have not gone away! It's just that maybe they don't want to read or engage with a shit website. The problem is that there are too many shit websites around and it's hurting the internet generally. Most sites are completely under the spell of clickbate and bad content for hits and ad revenue... I have completely lost faith in pretty much all of the photographic / video sites to be honest.

Yeah their "Light Gallery" isn't really exceptional considering marketing would be curating their very best shots.

Interesting concept. I've yet to see one image that matches or exceeds the DR of the A6500 or A7rII. Quite frankly they still look like iPhone shots IMO. But I haven't seen actual raws from one either. I hope this succeeds, but the price - again IMO - means it will die a slow death once the initial shipments are fulfilled. Hopefully someone with deeper pockets will buy the IP and get the price point down.

I've never done crowdfunding but from the people that I know who have, it only really works if you already have a large fanbase/network. Starting without or concurrently building one would likely be an exercise in frustration. And it tends to only work well in niche networks (conspiracies, UFOs, cult historical figures, etc)

silvertonesx24 got a reaction from EthanAlexander in How do you afford your gear?
Right but what I'm saying is that there's a cost in ownership and that it isn't necessarily the best idea for anyone to go get a 0% interest CC and max it out with camera gear planning to sell it just before the term expires. Even with insurance you can still be screwed over.
Used $30k Maseratis also look nice but can you afford to maintain a $120k car? If not, then it's not a smart idea to buy one.
