Little Photoshop size comparison between this and the S1H. Quite smaller !

I hope this is priced well.  Might be a good replacement for my GH5, but I don't want to spend a lot on what would-be a supplement to my Pocket cameras.

I dislike this footage - the framing makes the widescreen aspect inhibiting, since the videographer constantly cuts off peoples heads, and I do not like how the particular discolorations ( we call it "grading") chosen in post affect skin tones.  And, videos of cute kids are second only to pet videos in terms of cuteness. But, so what? This will have zero influence on whether I like the camera.
How on earth could a particular video that is heavily graded and uses a very special-type lens convince anyone that the camera is somehow better than the many other cinema contenders less than $10,000? Of course, this phenomenon of judging a camera by one video is all over this forum and many others devoted to equipment. I bet the videographer (once he masters framing with an anamorphic lens better (I get it that it could be on purpose)) could make a cinematic-looking video from a Sony RX100, under the same lighting conditions.
Of course, if one is for some other reasons set on acquiring this camera, this video (if you actually thought it was good) would reaffirm your interest, since it does show what it can produce. It just does not speak to whether another cheaper, more-user-friendly, more-versatile camera could do better, but then again the scenes have limited dynamic range (wonderful diffuse light that always helps), there is lots of out-of-focus areas (and subjects) and the lens, as has been said, matters a lot.
Just a thought (my quasi-rant could be applied to any posts about cameras, so I do not mean it as a criticism of the Komodo). There is a sophisticated crowd here, so I am surprised to see this behavior, again and again.

You'd be better off buying that lens, which is 90% of the look of that video. Global shutter probably helps too, but I bet you could get a similar look from the Zcam E2, A7SIII, S1H etc if you had the same glass.

Baseless/clueless/nonsense indeed ; ) There's nothing crippled on MFT, as matter of fact, we cannot say the same on FF side today... LOL ;- )
To be straightforward... with the sensor used on GH5s/P4K, not even to justify the sensor size to achieve low light performance.
Coupled to fast glass, DOF applies too, so what is left? Only the price of the cameras and glass, that's it. The same way we have a defective offer on the new toy just arrived: strictly commercial reasons.

I have seen this argument "for" FF35 for many many years, and it is just ridiculous and wrong to say "I need a full frame FoV".

All it proves is you made poor lens selections going into the project.

Did you have a 12mm? How about a 10mm or 8mm?  All of these are easily accessible and even quite affordable. Don't blame the tools for user errors.

Because you can get almost any FoV that you wish with MFT! From the Laowa 7.5mm f/2 (or even wider if not going rectilinear, there is a 2.3mm fisheye lens for MFT!) to the Olympus 150-400mm f/4.5 (or even longer!!).

When did one of us last need greater than 800mm FF35 or wider rectilinear than 15mm FF35? (that's the same as 10mm S35!!)

For me m/43 is just too small, More often than not when doing narrative work we usually end up in really tight spaces due to budget limitations and having a full frame FOV is necessary for capturing the whole frame. At least for the work I do.
I switched from my A cam being a sony to now being a panasonic. Ive already been using manual focus on canon glass for years so the switch to pany was pretty easy.  especially with their IBIS.

There are some advantages, as you have mentioned. But on the flip side of the coin, there are disadvantages not easily overcome. Event work in low light is a big one. Getting shallow DOF without f/.95 glass in another. If you are shooting controlled narratives, it may not be a big deal to you as you can always light your talent. But in event work, you gotta deal with what light is available.
I have the Panasonic GH5S and the S1H so I currently shoot with both, but if the S5 checks enough boxes, I'll go full frame all the way.

Honestly, I bought the s1 used "like new" for $1600 earlier this month. It came with v-log too!
If the new s5 is $2000 (assuming) new then I still think the s1 was a much better buy.
I like big camera bodies and it's one of the reasons I got an s1, although a small reason, it still mattered to me. I wanted a tanky daily driver work horse of a camera! Something with great battery life, a bright screen, big body, good evf,
So after thinking about the s5, it honestly doesn't really sound like the camera I wanted anyway, the s1 literally is the camera I wanted, so I'm happy with my purchase. I learned I'm able to return my s1 if i want but I'm choosing not too.
    4k 60p 10bit is neat, but I hardly even care about 4k 60p, even then, 8bit 60p looks fantastic!
I still think the s1 is the nicer more professional camera overall and its used prices are so good that it wins against the s5 when it comes to cost. Again, assuming the s5 will be $2000.

As an S1 owner, I'm still perfectly happy with my camera. The addition of 10-bit 60p is just not that big of a deal for me -- an incremental update, at best. The 8-bit holds up just fine, I use it on every shoot. I wouldn't be surprised if the S1 does get a firmware update to bring features into parity, but even if it doesn't, I don't think we should be encouraging Panasonic to cripple their lower-tiered new releases in order to protect further on up the product line-up, because isn't that exactly the kind of corporate BS everyone is pissed at Canon for right now?  The S5's reported anamorphic modes sound cool, I wish I was able to take advantage of them anyway, but let's be honest, I'm not going to be shooting with real anamorphics anytime soon anyway.

Technology always moves onward and upward, and better tech and features trickles down to newer, lower models, that's just the way it is. And, despite the addition of the S5, the S1 is still going to have a much more robust, abuse-proof body, and that big, beautiful, detailed EVF, and still have class-leading DR. I am looking forward to hopefully picking up an S5 for for a smaller, lighter b-cam, perhaps to replace my GH5.

I personnally use afc all the time for stills on my S1H and so far 90% of my pictures come in focus. Even when my son is running it works well. Unfortunately it's not as good for video and even when it keeps tracking the subject, it's not very smooth and quite distracting. But for stills it's actually pretty nice (and i'm a former Sony and Canon user so I can compare with their af system).

According to L-mount rumors ther will be some  new affordable lenses as well in the next weeks. It's the biggest problem of this L mount alliance. Affordable lenses. Let's hope they'll come asap, i'm really ready for those 24, 50 and 85 primes 🙏🏽

I personnally find it quite good on my S1H. I feel it's the best focus peaking i've ever used on any camera i owned (several sony a7, several Panasonic GH, BMP 4k...).
I thought it would be hard to nail focus but with use it's actually very possible.

Sometimes i want to sell my S1H because of its AF that's not on par with the offeringd of the competition. But then I think about my needs and realize I don't shoot sports, i don't shoot fast action, i usually shoot interviews, corporate, docs, and i'd love to go more tow fictional kind of shoot (narrative).
And i tell myself why would I need another camera for those controlled environments i'm shooting in?
Panasonic bodies are so reliable, but hey they're not as trendy as all those cameras from Canon ans Sony that all the bloggers show.
That's a shame. The AF is a lame excuse to me. I rather have a reliable camera, a workhorse with not so good continuous af than an unreliable camera with fast blazing af.

I said good SHOTS, not shorts.... It's just a little short film, nothing spectacular but I do find there are some good images. Yeah the skintones are not as good on Canon on Panasonic S1H, but I find the DR quite good in some of the shots.
