They're selling so fast that manufacturing cant keep up, and they expand to the Apple store? Sounds fishy.

Haven't kept up with REDs offerings lately, but why isn't the Raven available at RED's site?

What do you think of the Edelkrone Motion Kit?
I haven't used it. Seems pretty nice though.

@AaronChicago have you tried to compensate that 35mm distortion in post? I mean distortion post correction.
Or does it need so much stretch for the image that it comes more or less pointless?
Also can you share your experience on close focus. Its like +100cm (3'6 feet) away from the lens, right?
Have you tried some diopters with the 50mm?
I have experienced that I am always wanting to get even closer with anamorphic lenses. Even that my modified FM lens + Kowa can focus as close as 40cm. And that is without any diopters.
What ND solution you use? Am I right that these SLR Magic 2x Anamorphic primes does rotate from the front when focused, so it might be a problem with VariND...
Many questions but I hope you could share your thoughts and experiences on these things. Thanks in advance!

I have 4 diopters, I really only use the +2 which will allow about 1 ft away focus. I just have one ND that I use with it. 0.9. I never needed anything stronger outside since I was at ISO 400 and 60p. Going up to T8 actually looks really good IMO.

Sigma Art 50mm pairs really well with the 18-35.

*IBIS faulty combination
PS:
To my and everyone's eyes, I guess, both 2x and 1.33x are distinct worlds and they have nothing in common.
Hourses for courses, though. I don't think handheld is the most suitable route for 2x anamorphics.
Its definitely in a different league when using it with IBIS. If you hold fairly still it works perfectly. Any movement back and forth, side to side, or walking it becomes wobbly.

Hi Aaron, the 50mm exhibits quite a lot of distortions as well, and it is more noticiable as the main actor is the city and its buildings. The stablilization in camera doesn´t play well with anamorphics together and doesn't help. But I like a lot your skills (all the other related things were the tools), the colour you've done and the shoots in general, the composition, your eye.
Hey, thanks. I'm trying to improve on anamorphic framing. The 50mm does have some distortion but I kinda like the look. Compared to the 35 it's a lot less. That one is almost like a fish eye.

Great work! N00b question: What's with the weird wobble/side-shift? (Especially obvious on the shot at 0:20) Is that the lens? IBIS?
Thats the IBIS. I usually turn it off when i have the camera/lens on a shoulder rig but that day i was carrying just the GH5 body and lens.

Been thinking of picking one of those up, I wanted to get the 50 mm, as I read it was the most sharp.
Yeah, and all around versatile. I’ve used the 35 and it just has too much distortion for most situations. I haven’t tried the 70mm.

No i dont. This is the only anamorphic lens i have for MFT. I had a vintage Singer 16D that I used w/ the Ursa Mini but I got tired of how complicated everything was to set up properly.

Wow, that did come down nicely. How much usable DR do you think the GH5 has? Also, being a UM46 owner and a GH5 owner, how do you think they compare... if they're even comparable at all?
Btw, I would love to learn a little about the color work. It has a modern sepia tone look to it. Very interesting.
It's hard to tell exactly, but I would say you can cheat 13 stops out of V Log. It may be 12 on paper but with some power masks you can save certain areas that are either too hot, or too dark.
I used Impulz Tetrachrome as the base LUT. Added a lot of contrast. Tweaked some of the saturations. That's about it.
53 minutes ago, DBounce said:I like it. Was the setup hard to work with? What taking lens were you using?
It was the actual 2x Prime like this one: https://www.ukdigital.co.uk/slr-magic-anamorphot-cine-50mm-t28-2x-anamorphic-lens-mft.html
Sort of an all-in-one anamorphic lens.

@mercer thanks! Yeah the moire is really obvious in anamorphic mode for some reason. I rarely see any moire in regular 4K. Maybe it's 8 bit? Not sure. It could be the way I scaled it. Sometimes I'll create a ProRes file using 2x desqueeze, then render using 2x pixels instead of square pixels. In this case I just brought it into Premiere, reduced the height by 50%, then rendered using square pixels. Maybe that's the wrong way?
There's enough info to make the boat not clip. I just decided to not add keyframe masks, but if I did it would look like this.

I decided to shoot a short sequel to my GH4 VLog video "Chicago." Recorded internal at 8 bit on the GH5. Handheld with IBIS. V Log L.

Aaron, enough of these. This is your second post with awesome screenshots within one week. And again no moving images. How can you do this to us?
When will you be showing us some of that kewl footage?
Ha. Well that previous shot of the guy in front of a bookshelf is for a client, and might take 2-3 weeks till its up. This one above I'm going to try and edit tomorrow.

I think he is targeting Netflix for making a hard + fast rule of 4K camera acquisition only. It's easy to say 4K is top quality for a consumer, but that is only a fraction of the variables. It's much easier than advertising "Shot with Arri Master Prime" or "Shot with Cooke Speed Panchro but mastered in 6K so it all equals out".

Looks good... that guy really likes his sweaters.
We had 4 setups with this actor portraying different jobs. We went a little overboard on each. This one is a book editor.

Question GH5 people. Maybe I'm just too dumb but when you mount a lens that has no electronic contacts, you get prompted to enter the focal length. Below that, there are 3 preset focal lengths you can pick via touch (24mm, 35mm, 50mm). Is there any way to customize these 3 preset focal lengths to show something different? I can't find how but it would be a big flaw if not possible.
Yes there is a way. If you use the joystick you can highlight and change the numbers.

The new 5" smallHD Focus is a monitor only (so no recording) but it has different desqueeze options.
I wonder if it's scaled properly. I have the SmallHD 502, and while it displays 2x desqueezed, it scales way smaller than it should. Black bars appear on both sides of the desqueezed image.
-
It's going to be displayed on a 50' projection?
-
Same thing. I'm returning it. The only decent 7" monitor with full 2x anamorphic desqueeze is the Atomos Inferno or Flame. SmallHD has an extreme scale down thats so small its not even worth using as a reference monitor.

Well, a couple month ago i did my own LUT, and have a post about that in the other thread:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stiils from Daniel Peters https://vimeo.com/danielpetersdop. LUT i did is: gh5 v-log to bmd ursa mini bm_film
Maybe someone will be interested: https://yadi.sk/d/IPxyk13d3GXd4o (rar with LUT)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can find this lut for gh5 lut assist in attached files : BMURSA.vlt (cant say it looks similar to the original LUT for NLE but it's ok for in camera exposition judgement)
I want to find some "official" or more accurate and 100% match LUT for VLOG gh5.
Actualy i think that my lut is not 100% match, bu really good as a start point... It have more natural color and less contrast compared to original filmlog from BM...
Anyway... You can try it, its free;) And tell me what do you think
P.S: you can see a little banding in gh5 footage on the image above, just because i take a compressed gh5 mp4...With original 8 or 10 bit footage you would`t see any
Nice! Thanks for that. Just testing on a couple of V Log and Ursa clips, I notice that the VLog shots end up darker compared to the UM clips, when using the same conversions from BMDFilm to Rec709. Colors looks really accurate though.

It's getting a ton of coverage this week. That alone is enough traffic to drive sales. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but if we are to believe what they said on RED's forum - that they can't keep up with manufacturing, I just wonder why they'd expand and create longer backorder times. Unless Apple is helping with manufacturing.
