I saw it again at a Dolby Cinema theater and it was straight insanity. The score rattled my core. I have to agree party with your review. The original was legendary and had a completely original look and feel. Much darker and noir inspired. That being said, the story of the original isn't great if you think about it. Deckard is a detective but doesn't do much detecting. The story of 2049 was much better in my opinion. Goslings character actually did some detective work and had an emotional character arc.

Relative to how great the film turned out - under $200 million seems impressive.

I loved it. Such a great story. One thing that impressed me (among many) was Deakens' restraint to not use anamorphic lenses. I didn't miss it one bit.

Hi, do you know if this is using ffmpeg with a fancy wrapper?
Or complete custom algorithm of their own?
Genuinely interested, not trying to be goofy...
Im not sure. Theyre support is A++ though. Im sure theyd answer.

Agreed.
Just curious why you wouldn't use VLog all of the time. Handing off footage straight to a client?

I figured it out. THere's a new firmware update to FootageStudio4K that allows for up to 8K transcoding.
-
I'm trying to transcode the 6K anamorphic files which are 4992x3744. Using FootageStudio and trying to convert to ProRes it says "invalid or unsupported frame size".
Premiere doesn't seem to be working with these files "as is". Just green and blotchy playback. Any suggestions?

I'm having one issue that I cannot figure out. The HDMI signal cuts out when I hit record with 6K anamorphic (all bitrates). I've tried it both on my Shogun Inferno and SmallHD 502. 4K anamorphic works fine while sending a signal.
Luckily they've implementing desqueeze in camera but I've always enjoyed using a bigger screen with the GH5.
-
@Andrew Reid What type of SD card were you using for the tests? Did you have any problems w/ dropped frames or stopped recording?
*sorry if this was mentioned earlier, I haven't been keeping up.

That's pretty cool. I didn't realize third parties were utilizing the depth map.
-
I have to say, I'm not feelin' it. Definitely waiting till more examples are out as well as raw footage but this doesn't look like the Varicam 35 to me.
-
So are they sending you the OLPF? I"m curious to hear some feedback.

Wow. Which camera is that?
GH5. That blown out plant looks bad but we flagged off the sun beam right after this.

That would be sweet. Particularly seeing this on skin.
Jon, could you help me with the math?
So, let's say I have 28mm lens. Then I use a metabones .64x speed booster. That lens is now a 17.92mm, lets round up to 18mm. Then I double for the GH5 crop, and it's 35mm equiv is 36mm. Then with ETC, it is 36x1.4=50. So the 35mm equiv of a 28mm lens on a GH5 with .64x speed booster with ETC enabled is roughly 50mm. Is my math correct?
I was pressed for time so I didn't get to do an A/B but here is a shot with the DDFX 2 on the Sigma Cine 50-100.

Great example above @BTM_Pix
@Jonesy Jones Maybe try 1 and 2. I prefer 2 for anything under 35mm. 1 does really well for 50mm and up.
I've got a shoot today where I can do a quick A/B on a subject.

I was actually hoping you'd jump into the thread with this exact suggestion. I only know about this filter because of you. However, could you point me to a video that used that filter? Other than the Tiffen one.
I have the GH5 and 12-35, I could do a quick A/B test tomorrow. Otherwise I have a few examples used on the UM46k but there’s no “before/after”.

Matt Workman has a good channel

People are probably sick of me recommending this, but definitely check out Tiffen Digital Diffusion FX 2. It takes the edge off without blooming highllights like the Pro Mist filters.

It doesn't have that special Canon "indefinable" (= faceplate) so it is crap.
Not sure if exaggerating but Canon is the opposite of indefinable. The Canon look can be spotted a mile away. Not saying that's good or bad, but it's extremely common and recognizable.

Is Pro Camera available on Android? I use it for anamorphic photos and 3:1 crop. Not quite sure about 2.35:1.
Nvmd. I just looked it up and it's iOS only.
GH5 6K anamorphic HDMI output? any useable data out?

Unfortunately HDMI out doesn't work while the camera is in 6K. I've tried multiple external monitors.
