Looks beautifull ...watching with my Ipad, photo or frame?

    Thanks. Clip from 4k video.

Great image Aaron...but then you did make the GH4 sing too...I get mine on Wednesday...it's been a long patient two months!

    Ultra or XL?

I believe its the XL. It's an old one.

What I do, with FCPX, is create a timeline with the desired stretch format (2048x858 - 2k 2.39:1) & then stretch the footage - as i'm shooting on 16:9, the edges do fall outside the timeline's borders. It all depends on what your NLE will let you do - some might not let you make custom timeline sizes & then you'll just have to adjust the height of anamorphic footage, so you end up with black bars on the top/bottom.

If you still have to transcode your footage to an editable format, then yes, your best option is to do the stretch/squeeze then.

I stick to Cinema DCP standards:

Yeah I actually don't mind having the black bars in a 1920x1080 or 3840x2160 file. The scaling playback is just so slow. I can play 4K or 10 bit GH5 files just fine in Premiere (other than anamorphic stretched).

I don't think it's processing power -- the C300 Mk2 has Dual DIGIC 5s and can do 12bit internal recording, the C200 will have Dual DIGIC 6s (which I assume will be more powerful). It might be because there'd be no reason to by a C300, it might be because they're not 100% sure SD cards can't handle it (dunno why they wouldn't put in a UHS-II card slot in there), or maybe they'll release a firmware upgrade that allows for 10bit internal recording after they release the C300 Mk3 with RAW.

It currently supports 10bit 422 1080p through SDI, so I suspect we're going to see a lot of Ninja Stars appearing on production rigs.

Yeah I"m pretty sure it's intentional crippling. The processor is plenty powerful enough. There's a CFast 2.0 slot as well.

Yep and works like a charm. I am constantly recording 95 minute interviews to 256gb cards.

Yeah I never had this happen on the GH4. I guess ill run some more 1 hr trials before using it un-manned again.

  5. Has anyone had their GH5 shut off 30 min into recording? I was recording HD on a Sandisk Extreme 95 so I'm sure it wasn't a card error. I had it set up to record some BTS and when I checked on it 45 min later it has powered down. I turned it back on and the battery was still 3/4 full. I checked the file and it had recorded 31 minutes.

  6. I've had a Lexar CFast 2.0 card fail on location. I have 4 total, and the one that failed was one that I ordered on eBay from China. I was suspicious - although it might've been a coincidence. Lexar replaced it anyway.

I'm thinking about jumping to Sandisk CFast 2.0 cards. I've had a near perfect track record with their SD cards.

I was thinking that this could possibly replace the Ursa Mini (expensive) EVF if you get this and the SmallHD Sidefinder... as an Ursa owner, what are your thoughts?

I haven't tried the BM EVF yet. I typically only use the SmallHD 502 with a sunhood if I'm outside.

  8. Yeah Alex Buono was the DP for their shorts for a long time. I think he left last season to co-direct Documentary Now. He used to show BTS stuff on twitter. They used everything from 7D's, C300s, Alexa, RED, and actual film. The intro of the show from 2010 to 2015 was shot on a 7D. They also made custom aperture mattes to put in the camera that turned bokeh into the letters SNL.

It looks good, but how far can it be pushed after using comet color? Obviously, I don't know enough about this specific "product" but aren't people afraid that everybody's videos will look too similar?

You can make it your own. Kholi just takes an enormous amount of time to interpret gamma, luminance, hues, saturation to a pleasing image that you might be accustomed to seeing on Blackmagic footage. In my demo I tried to keep it pretty accurate to only his LUT with some minor contrast, hue changes.

Looks pretty good, will these LUTS work on the GH4 as well?

Good question. I would assume so. It seems like VLog uses the same curve in the GH4, GH5, and Varicam.

Well he did write/co-write his early films & this shouldn't be forgotten - he can tell a story & has.

Of his American films the pick of the bunch are Enemy & Arrival, but one shouldn't ignore his Canadian films Polytechnique & Incendies, which are excellent.

The thing I find troubling with him is that he tends to jump around a lot & this makes for a lot of Hit'n'Miss films - I found Sicario to be very dissappointing & not worthy of all the praise it was getting.

Fair enough. I loved Sicario. My expectations weren't very high going in though. I think I saw it before all of the reviews were out.
