  1. Aside from those very odd Pentax users I'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a happy new year resolution of buying more cameras. What is on your wish list and how are you spending the Christmas holidays? šŸ‘

  3. Thanks for the wishes of you all here! : ) In this year I lost my best friends ever, my father and dearest aunt, a mother to me, hope 2025 may only become better than this 2024... No complaints at professional level though... Five/six awards (the 6th 'cause we're working on a sequel of a previous TV series not yet under my umbrella by then despite a determinant role in the nomination towards this prize this time) ten days ago for two feature movies shot in NZ and Macau, China, respectively, as producer with two of my partners in crime by this scribe of yours too. North of Portugal. My brother's new home. With my core family of three, brother, sister-in-law, nephews and his brother-in-law, sister-in-law and respective mother, very likely. Our mother is still recovering from a surgery two weeks ago, the 2nd one this year from another fall and same broken leg... so the youngest will be with her instead. Just life, I guess. While waiting for my FX30 next week arriving from a U.S. trip, Osmo Pocket 3 (have you already bought this jaw-dropper?) and their really small and handy accessories are the ones I regret today to not have discovered earlier from the previous model anyway. As never enough to have been reported before, that larger sensor, 4K 100/120fps and 10-bit D-Log M (even 4:2:0) are a thrice must : ) 4th axis stabilizer just to mention one of the plus size : D of this little toy is simultaneously-plainly-and-luxuriously a simple joy... : X The set of filters and extra add-ons, no less ; ) Testing all of them for these holidays! : P Happy Christmas and the best 2025 to everyone! EDIT/PS -- @Andrew Reid Thanks for extending that infamous 5-minutes editing limit here, serves to share more in the same post and in age of a big fail to twitter/X model without useless multiple posts so dispersive and annoying I intend to believe LOL :- )

  4. You can use three frame markers at the same time. Richard Wong says att 2.25 that it works in both photo and video modes. And he shows how you can customize the frame markers.

  5. Bought a S9 and gonna use it to do a tribute video of my mum while she is still in good shape this holiday.

  6. The holidays haven't been the same since my Mom passed in 2016, but I am trying to make the most of them after beating cancer last year! As far as cameras, I think I am set for 2025. I MIGHT swap out my two S5s for S5IIs, depending on how the year goes. Not that I am unhappy with my S5s, it would just make matching them with my S5II X in post easier. I also might snag a S9... we'll see! But overall I am pretty settled until I see how things look next year or in 2026, as far as Lumix goes. What I have (two S5s and a S5II X) are honestly cameras I could use until the wheels fall off and I'd be happy with them, I'm more just looking at the long term big picture as far as where I end up. Happy holidays to all of you!

Damage to the bottom might be a common thing. My grip was all beat up when I traded it in. It also depends on what they mean by damage, but the lock on the grip shutter for mine was really loose. I think that's also a pretty common problem on the OG 100 if it's seen some real use. It didn't bug me much since the button was hard to accidentally press, regardless of the lock. (For all I know, that could be my old camera, though I traded mine in at MPB in the US so it'd be interesting to know how it got to Japan a year later)

  8. Cool thanks, I will watch shortly. I think for video, this is such a great bit of kit...but the S5II is and would be even better if it received the firmware from the S9. For stills though, I'd still have to hand it to the S5II just for the mech shutter but then I don't much care for the mech shutter on the S5II so please LUMIX, make me an S2R!! Feature-wise, this little bastard has quite a few things I'd like to see in a more pro body.

  9. Yes. That and the lack of IBIS. Makes zero sense against a used 100S and say the 45mm f2.8 + 80mm f1.7 (or 110 I think it is?)
    1 point
  10. OK, just looked it up on Fuji Rumors and because no IBIS and estimated cost, TBH, a used 100S with a pair of primes makes more sense at the likely price! So maybe not...

  11. I think technology is just moving along and we’re able to do things now with sensor technology and processing that weren’t possible before. Fast enough read out speeds of a full frame sensor reducing rolling shutter and giving superior low light performance with low noise. As Andrew mentioned, you have a super 35 crop built into your FF sensor anyway now and things like ā€œclear image zoomā€ on the consumer level Sony cameras for making use of all that realestate. Also, My friends at the rental house here in Hollywood say the Arri 35’s are sitting on the shelf. The Mini LF’s are rented out all day long along with the Alexa 65’s. They say it’s those two cameras on the high end and the FX6’s on the low end/doc work. That’s literally it. We also have to remember that these are companies that need to sell products so things are changing also based on a need to sell something new, to innovate. Why upgrade your 5 year old camera otherwise? I think FF is the sweet spot with all the glass that is out there from years of 35mm photography as well as form factor, light gathering, shallow dof if desired.. the new little fixed lens rangefinder GFX camera that’s rumored to be coming out soon has a 100mp MF sensor. Designs show a little zoom rocker switch to change crop modes/punch in. Huge sensor with a wide angle lens but the ability to have whatever you want in camera or in post. I think that’s where we’re headed.

  12. Merry Xmas everyone…!!! Up in the California mountains for the week renovating our ski cabin with the family, (3 dogs and two cats) Really warm this year with only one real snowstorm back in November so kind of an odd winter for us. I’m back in analysis paralysis as far as camera gear for 2025 goes. Bouncing back and forth between doubling down on cheap, dated LUMIX gear with a Leica SL2 thrown in for high res stills or being more sensible and getting the S1R to hold me over for a bit. Or… finally jumping to Fuji or Sony. Fuji feels more fun and Sony feels more sensible and boring. Plus the high prices for what specs you get just feels rough after coming from LUMIX. Dream cameras on my list right now are the GFX100ii with an X-H2s for fast moving stuff and high frame rates. Little X-M5 for fun personal stuff and a backup camera for the bag. Or the A1 marked down to affordable levels and a ZV-e1/FX3 for a tight little travel kit. I’m finishing up a documentary in Japan this year and do a lot of solo, run and gun stuff so the Sony AF should be high on my list. Instead I’m doing my usual though and going after the weird quirky stuff. Anamorphic and speedboosted vintage glass. Chasing after high quality stuff on the cheap. I’ve been having fun with lenses in the meantime and scooping up a lot of my bucket list vintage glass while the yen is down in Japan against the USD. The Konica 57mm f/1.2 and the Yashica Tomioka 55mm f/1.2 have been unobtainable for a long time but I was able to score remarkable deals this year on those two. Can’t wait to nail down my next camera bodies so I can start playing around. Hunting for a GFX100s sub $2,000 this week but also have the black X-M5 in my cart from Japan with kit lens for $800. S9 is on sale for $900 though so I’m going back and forth between the two. it’s actually pretty amazing that for under $2,000/$1,500 you have some of the best technology out there from all the big companies right now. We’re quite spoiled.

  13. The Lumix 1.8 primes are great, the best I’ve used for video. I’d love the Tamron 20-40 f2.8 on an L mount (or a Sigma equivalent).

  14. I do like Lumix's prime lens and some zoom is using the same 67mm filter (except 1.4), and similar size and weight make hotswap on gimbal/filter much more convenient Meike does make the entry level L mount lens with their 85/50/35mm f1.8/f2 lens, I hope there is a 24mm coming from them.

  15. I don't have any plans to upgrade in 2025. Two C70s is plenty for me. If anything, I want to shoot more little passion projects with c-mount lenses on my EOS-M. I've also joined a screenwriting group and purchased an old AlphaSmart word processor which seems a much better place to spend any time and energy that is not sucked up by work.

    Leica SL3 / SL3-S

If you want a GFX 100 series body and plan to use electronic EF lenses, that one seems too good to be true. If the seller has good feedback that seems legit and relates to other camera stuff, resistance may be futile. That or roll the dice and try bidding on some 100s's to see if you can nab one under $2k.

I also found a deal on one in Japan but the lack of info has me concerned. I’m still thinking about it though. $1,800 US with a 10% coupon and $25 FedEx shipping. BUT…. That includes a Fringer EF autofocus adapter so it’s really like $1,400 for the GFX 100. i also really need the small form factor of the 100s or 100ii so I’m still resisting the OG 100 first model. That industrial design is so cool though despite the size. I especially like the look of taking off the EVF and going ā€œheadlessā€ if anyone has more guts than me here’s a photo. If I drink too much tonight I may end up pushing the buy button. The prices of used 100s models has surprisingly gone back up the last couple of months… I’m wondering if the new cinema camera announcement has people looking for cheap B cam options? That’s definitely my plan. *Also, I guess the SL3 thread has been hijacked by GFX talk. I originally was thinking 61mp Sony sensor models for the high res but why mess around when you can go big with a GFX…!!!

Actually, it would be worth me crossing the channel on the Eurostar to pick one up! What/where is that 25% off deal?!

  19. Going either the prime route or the variable focal length route, everything is covered out to 200mm. The lenses are modern, sharp, with appropriately consistent coatings. All the Lumix lenses are weather resistant, fairly light with bright options available. They also have breathing correction, unlike MANY more popular brands. Don't like the Lumix lenses, get the Sigma ones and they're native mount too being part of the L mount alliance. You want anamorphic? There's that too. By the way, Lumix can also stabalize those very lenses too along with appropriate desqueezing. If you think the problem is L-mount, it's not- it's you.

    What is Lumix thinking?!

Agreed. L Mount is pretty good now especially this year with the Sigma 28-45mm f1.8 and Sigma 28-105mm f2.8 becoming available and probable purchases for me in 2025. Pretty sure I am going to go for the 28-45 as I need something faster than f2.8 for low light work and though not as fast as the 50mm f1.2, has more practical real world use for me. The 28-105 I am still on the fence over and depends on whether an S2R appears. If it does, as a LUMIX version of the Leica SL3, then it’s a done deal and I will trade my Sony A7RV and 3x zoom lenses for that combo as it will cover 95% of my needs as a ā€˜one and done’ and that last 5%, at the extreme ends, will be my compromise. But if there is no S2R, then there will also be no 28-105 for me either because although it is available in Sony E Mount, I would rather have my smaller trio of Tamron zoom lenses for that compact Sony body. All pieces of the greater puzzle.

  21. I don't get "there aren't any lenses" talk. There are less lenses available than to a Sony shooter but there are plenty of lenses and more are appearing all the time. What lenses do most people really have? A 24-70 f2.8, maybe a wide or tele zoom depending on their work and 2 or 3 primes. You can easily have a decent L mount kit that covers most needs.

  22. That was a very brief timeline indeed! No mention at all of GH1/GH2/GH3/GH4/GH5/GH6/BGH1/E1/E2/E2-M4/BMCC-MFT/BMPCC/Kinefinity/BOSMA/Chronos/etc? I couldn't imagine ever discussing the history of MFT and not mentioning any of them at all!
