  7. According to DxOMark the dynamic range of the Nikon D800 is a whopping 14.4 stops. I have no problem believing that it is not the same as the Alexa and that the Alexa's 14 stops are calculated differently. It is interesting though that the Canon 5D Mark III only scores a mere 11.7 in the same test, making it almost a half stop less than the 6D (currently the best performing Canon DSLR in the dynamic range category) and 0.2 stops lower than the Mark II Nikon D800: http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Nikon/D800 Canon 5D Mark III http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Canon/EOS-5D-Mark-III Does anybody else find this a bit peculiar? Especially since the 5D is the "go to" DSLR for filmmakers, heck I even own one my self.

  11. Hello Guys.. I have a 5dMK3, about 7-8 lenses ranging from the 70-200mm f2.8(Biggest) to the 85mm f1.8 (Smallest) and a Zacuto Fee-N-G, and some accessories, (No Mattebox) Some Lavs and 4 H4n's and a Rode NTG3 with a Headphone Pair and a Presonus Audiobox for Mixing which is not huge by any means and my Macbook Pro 15'4 inch laptop. I have Philip Bloom's pocket dolly by kessler, Glidecam HD4000, a Tripod, 3 Gorpo camers, no Huge Accessories, just some small stuff like a gorillapod and what not. I have a AtomOS Ninja 2, and some SSD's and currently I have three Bags holding those stuff, 2 Lowepro's Trekker 600 and a Pelican.   I want to know if there is a bag big enough to accomodate all of those Equipment? I can let out the Glidecam and Dolly since they have their own bags, and I rarely take them together to a shoot.   Any Advise Please?   Thanks//

  15. Hey everybody. I just joined and this is my first post over here. So, I am Shaheryar from Lahore, Pakistan and I am a passionate filmmaker. I am planning on buying the GH3 and was a little confused over a few accessories. Mainly support accessories. Now I am buying the Benro S6 tripod which have gotten really good reviews. I am having problems with rails systems or rod supports. I saw Andrew building up his GH3 rig with Lanparte pro baseplate and rods with Lanparte Mattebox.    I am currently not looking in making a shoulder rig. All I want is to attach my follow focus and work with it.    I want to buy the Lanparte Baseplate pro with rods. I really like the price point and the reviews are amazing on it. But I have a small issue. Will I be able to change the battery while the GH3 is on the baseplate? This is important. I really would like to buy the battery grip but I have 2 issues with it. One being that it is expensive and the other that it offsets the whole camera to quite a certain degree. Not good. Looking forward to your answers and thank you for your time.
  16. Hi, I'm up to write my thesis in the next month. It's gonna be about the "newly" appeared filmmaker society between professionals and amateurs. They are far from amateur, but also doesn't have the luxury of a professionals budget. Let's just call them independent filmmakers. I would like to find out as much as i can about this new and very exciting uprising "movement".  What effects was made by the internet, torrent, tons of tutorials, DIY, youtube, vimeo, facebook, twitter, web2.0 (etc) on the filmmaking industry/art? What tendencies can we observe in the camera/film developer market in the past few decades? (red, arri, canon, bmc, sony etc) Since my thesis has to be 60 pages, and i have to use a lot of quotes from the literature I'm looking for any kind of help such as: opinion, experience, suggested literature, or any kind of useful source. So basically anything serious.   (I'm not new in this field, I'm working as a photographer and editor since 6 years or so, and in the past 1-2 years I have my own equipment for DSLR filmmaking. And also I'm a weekly-daily followers of this kind of sites, like EOSHD ... and some others more :) )   spoken languages: hungarian, english Thanks for your help! Adorján
  17. Has anyone tried their hand at filmmaking apps? If yes, which ones did you like, in particular, and, would recommend, to other filmmakers?   I have tried a clapboard app, once. It was pretty neat. I also, used the light app, where different colours of light are available, as well as light blinking, at varying speeds. It was great for creating horror effects, and carrying cheap, portable lighting, which was super portable (for super close up, though). I used it on an iPad. I tried Celtx, but, I don't particularly fancy script formatting apps, so, that wasn't for me. I've tried sound effects, and the teleprompter. The teleprompter was great.    I've wanted to try using some music making app (garage band, caustic etc), but, I am not too sure, about my ear for music. Also, since I've never really tried my hand at creating music (I learnt how to play the guitar and the synthesizer, as a kid), I am a little unsure.   Anyways, I sold my iPad, so, I wanna try apps for my android. Maybe on a smaller phone or phablet size device.   Any suggestions?
