Shell64 got a reaction from PannySVHS in G7 in 2019
A couple of days ago I recorded a conference on the g7 in 4K 24fps with the unlimited recording hack. Firmware version was 2.2 and color of g7 is black.
The camera successfully recorded close to 40 minutes of 4K video before the conference ended and I stopped recording. No overheating, and the camera was not hot. The files were successfully recorded, and when pieces together in DaVinci resolve I did not detect any dropped or skipped frames from one clip to another (the camera splits clips after a certain file size).

I love slider shots. And it feels like today there is an obsession with gimbals. Honestly the shots most people do with gimbals looks boring now a days, and even when trying to keep the gimbal steady, the camera obviously looks like it’s floating.  I like the look of a slider. It looks like a gimbal moving, but without the “floating in the air thing.”  They aren’t used too much, and one can make beautiful camera movements with one. There is something about the camera being locked down and moving compared to a gimbal where the camera is “floating and moving.”

I currently shoot with a Panasonic g7. Any plans to make one of these for the Panasonic cameras with Cinelike D like the g7/g85?

Fellow G7 user here. Honestly, I would use the money toward better glass, lighting, etc. Now this all depends on if you don’t already have these. But if you don’t, or have them but they are lower end, consider going this route. Maybe by an 18-35 and viltrox speedbooster, and an aperture 120d or something. I’ve been tempted to upgrade my g7, but I’ve decided investing in hq glass and lighting is a better investment.
If you are fine with lighting and lenses you have, I personally think that your next camera really depends on your shooting style. Doing turn and gun?  Need a complete, ultra-reliable package with great IBIS?  Gh5/G9 is for you. Don’t need IBIS and want larger sensor/better stills?  XT3 for you. Really we can’t determine this for you. It really depends on your shooting style.
Honestly I still think the g7 is fine. I would invest in better glass and lights. You will notice more improvement there.

Looking at options is great, but you end up trying to compare if IBIS is better than having an extra 1.35 stops of DR, and you get no-where.
    My advice is to:
Understand the offerings in terms of what features they offer Review how you work and what features on offer actually matter Review if there are any limitations in how you work that would be eliminated (eg, IBIS makes going hand-held an option for some people) Evaluate the tech against your requirements and how you work No point buying a camera because it works better for someone else and gets great reviews for doing things that you don't do.
And remember that when you're reading reviews most people who write reviews are review writers and may not actually do anything else except make reviews.  Which is why vloggers only review cameras as vlogging cameras....

I see the c100 sells for about $800-850 now. Pretty much a steal. Yes, only 1080p, but the IQ, file sizes, built in nd, preamps, canon log, are crazy good at this price point. Good alternative to buying a current Canom DSLR for video. I may buy one.

"Pocket 4K footage is precisely transformed to match the color science of the Arri Alexa, without compromise. This is achieved without artifacts, while introducing a smooth, organic rolloff."

For the better part of the last year, I've been working to map the color of P4K BMDFilm to match my Alexa's LogC, as measured under sunlight and halogen. To do this, I wrote an interpolation program in C++ that can accept an enormous amount of data (~40k samples per camera), and interpolate smooth internal contours, or 'waves' between them. Exposure compensation conversions were made with the same interpolation engine (transforms replicating sensor color response with variant exposure).

Another significant element of the project was to recreate Arri's Rec709 to maintain the entirety of recorded LogC gamut, in a film-derived envelope (for the display variations). This was particularly difficult, as the correct RGB primary behavior needed to be exactly replicated within contiguous 709, but smoothly diverge to HDR-like handling of far gamut (where Arri's Rec709 ends). This new envelope (EC Gen.4) is particularly impressive, and I may release it for the Arri, as it is significantly preferable to normal Arri Rec709.

Well, looks like Canon is selling the eos rp for $999. Pretty good deal for full frame, and it shoots 24p now. Pair this with eoshd c-log and this seems like a nice combo if you don’t need 4K

It’s really not that bad in pc land. Just moved from my pathetic 2014 Mac mini to a liquid cooled rtx 2060 rig for Davinci resolve. Download a free antivirus like Kaspersky free which I use and it works great. Or use Windows Defender. According to a huge German AV test that is considered THE standard, Windows Defender came on top.
Point is Windows is not terrible like it once was. Unless you are using final cut, save money and go Windows. Just get a reliable free antivirus and don’t download Zhongi_Video_LUT_installer.exe

Apple introduced the 16 in MacBook Pro today. Seems pretty good. Same price as the previous model too. The big thing I like is the improved thermals. Hopefully the i9 processor won’t thermal throttle this time!  They also improved the keyboard which is pretty significant. Processors are the same but that’s fine because all we needed performance wise is new thermals. You can configure it with 64gb RAM and the RAM speed has been improved. Also new AMD 7nm graphics. Finally we don’t have to pay extra for improved graphics.
Overall seems pretty solid to me!

Shell64 reacted to BTM_Pix in Is the iPad Pro viable for video editing?
Lets get the negatives out of the way.
The file management restrictions of iOS (which were beyond LumaTouch's control) were a major hassle but that has by and large now been addressed with the release of iPadOS.
Another drawback, which again is beyond their control, is that there is no support for ProRes. This may not be an issue for many users but it does rule out being able to use it even with any non-RAW footage from the BM cameras without transcoding so it is something to bear in mind. Ditto if you're using an Atomos etc as the recording medium for a DSLR/Mirrorless.
The restriction to one LUT isn't great if you're using LOG or any flat profile that requires a corrective LUT as you then can't add a "creative" LUT on top of that.
Some sort of stabilisation would be welcome, although there are stabilising apps for iOS that you can pre-process your footage if you don't mind the extra step/time.
    On the upside....
The biggest upside is that there is plenty of upside.
LumaFusion isn't just a very good editing app for iOS, its a very good editing app full stop.
I initially started using LumaFusion strictly as an in the field editing system for cutting and transmitting pre-match build up pieces in sports stadiums but I actually found I liked it enough to use it as an editor in a lot of non mobile situations where I would normally have used FCPX.
Its fast, responsive, logical and unless you have that need for using ProRes and/or multiple LUTS then it can be all the editing system most people actually need.
The integration with the Gnarbox 2.0 looks pretty compelling, albeit it at a price, but it glues everything together as a viable professional system with ingesting, transcoding and backups etc.
The XML export update is very close to release which will move the story on quite a bit as well as you can then do the edit on your iPad and then finish it off in your "real" desktop NLE if you need the extra options so you can have the best of both worlds.
One other thing to note is that everyone that I've ever dealt with at LumaTouch has been helpful and friendly and you can see by how far the system has developed that they care about developing it further and listening to users.
Having said all of that though and returning to your original question of can it be used in lieu of Resolve then you need to look at how deeply you use the extra functionality of Resolve and how often you would come up against the bumps in the road that I've outlined.
If you are just using h264/265 files with a picture profile that can be corrected with the inbuilt controls and you only then need one "creative" LUT then the chances are it could be all you need. If you are using Cinelike D and then the Leeming LUT for example as a corrective and then always add a film simulation LUT on top then you've immediately got a problem.
You should go to their website and download the User Guide to gauge how restrictive its features may or may not be for the way you would use it.
