Does the P4K batteries drain with the power off? That was one of my major issues with the Pocket and Micro. With the Micro you’d have 45 minutes from the time you inserted the battery until you needed to change it. With the Pocket it was even less. With my current camera, I can get an hour with the camera on. So 45 minutes isn’t bad if it holds charge with the camera off. Also, how long does it take to power on/off?

I can confirm that the battery doesn't drain with the power off or at least not in short amount of time. If you leave it overnight, the result might differ. And after 6.1, I could get pretty consistent 55 min - 1 hour of use for each battery.

As for time to power on: 3-4 seconds. Time to power off: 2-3 seconds

    Very nice video!

Colour is done very nicely, but if you want to learn more then come over the to this colour grading thread...

You've done well with the Helios - I don't think it matches my GH5 quite as well as it seems to match the P4K, but it might be that Melbourne overcast light that helps it along perhaps :)

The audio is quite good. I didn't really miss a mic, which is great considering that audio was featured in the video.  Of course, always pack a mic by default :)

Thanks I would give it a shot once I've caught up with my projects. Coming from Vietnam, I have to say that screenshot you took really reminds me of home :)

Fantastic video! great example of the P4k and Helios.

Thanks for the kind words. It is a really lovely len. I'm planning to get the 85 1.5 reissue and a focal reducer for m43-m42 as well. If only there is a wider angle len with the same look, I would be set.

I am reading a lot of bad reviews for the known fan noise issue of the Godox and color is suspect.

Bladelight36 are 12792lux and the 18 are 6396, and I like the shape and usability of it. Adding a Fiilex or two (or similar) makes a full setup for most cases.

fan noise is cheap and easy to fix. I haven't done it myself since it never bothers me that much.

as for colour this guy has shown it pretty good in this video.

Current choices are Godox, Cametv Boltzen, Aputure, Fiilex

even though godox is the one I'm using atm and being quite a bit cheaper. I'd vote for boltzen 55w due to the size and weight.

They look more filmic than the video does. Interesting.

Because a lot of people still don’t know how to color video correctly. They slap on some adjustments to one frame of the shot and then move on to the next. I see it all the time. Working with the stills is easier as you only have that one frame and then, working with say ACR, makes it, again, so much easier.

as Turboguard said I'm still struggled with colour a whole video correctly. Before this camera my workflow is pretty much slap on a decent lut => tweaked a few thing and deliver. My goal this year is to try to up my colour skill.

This is a video that I did while strolling the street of Melbourne. The sound is actually the on board mic since I din't expect such a performance

    Noisy.

But each person's critical standards of what they'll put up with will vary.

Uh oh! Even worse news for your sound department ?

I'm not a fan of generators. But unfortunately they seem to be a necessary evil.

I'm more into these little guy

So my client decided to go over and above and buy the 256GB sandisk sd's instead of the 128 ones that I recommended. Thoughts or experience with the 256 cards? Think there will be stability issues? Should we return them and just go with the 128 ones?

    @Jim Giberti @Emanuel @xzobinx

sorry mate. I have no experience with the 256gb card. I shoot ssd only for faster editing workflow and sometime same day edit.

Metabones and Viltrox make non focal reducer EF-MFT smart adapters. Removing the optics from a focal reducer adapter won't work as they are different thicknesses.

my guess is the same. the principal is similar to how adding extension tube gives your lens marco capability. I've just bought some marco extension tube to play around with.

I think its fractionally sharper but nothing to write home about.

The only problem with dumb adapters with EF lenses is that they are a bit too dumb in the sense you can't control the aperture or power the IS.

I'm not sure if there actually is any smart adapters from EF to MFT that aren't also focal reducers?

The solution would be to buy the very cheapest smart focal reducer one and take the glass out of it.

the Viltrox EF-M1 is one such thing. it's a smart adapter without the focal reducer.

As per your solution, I tried to remove the focal reducer optic from my Viltrox EF-M2 once and I could not focus my 18-35 at all. The minimum focus distance seems to be pushed to really far away. I have not figured out the reason why.

OK, a bit quick and dirty but here we are.

Obviously the Metabones 0.71x reduction to 0.75x of the Aputure gives a wider FOV but its also got a very slight sharpness edge.

The RAW dng files are here for you

thank you so much I will have a look at the dng file when I get home. But at first glance I haven't notice any nasty glowing effect like my viltrox

I can do you an A/B/C dng with a dumb adapter, a Metabones Ultra and the LensRegain on the 18-35mm wide open but you'll have to give me a couple of hours

I can't ask for more. Please take your time. If it's possible could please you shoot something with white colour? I found white subject seems to suffer the most.

It is no different with the P4K as it is with other MFT mount cameras so in terms of quality and performance whatever videos you've seen with other cameras will apply really.

Things to be aware of are that all lens control is done from the adapter so the aperture wheel on the camera will have no effect and the current aperture will not show up on screen. This will have an impact if you use the Auto Exposure function (which is no big deal really) but more importantly you must remember to have some charge in the interface otherwise you will have no aperture control.  If you are just going to use it as a dumb focal reducer to manual lenses via additional adapters then of course that isn't an issue.

The other aspect to be aware of is that its is only 0.75x reduction which, whilst a bit of a downer on other MFT cameras, actually works to your advantage with the P4K as it means the Sigma 18-35mm for instance will not vignette as it can do with adapters with a greater reduction.

Ultimately though, if you want to be able to have any electronic focus control of an EF lens on a P4K (even leaving aside the very nice A/B controller interface stuff) then until/if Blackmagic make changes to enable it on the other smart adapters then the Lens Regain is the only game in town.

For $199 (I note B&H now have them in stock) then its a bit of a steal in my opinion.

I'm more concerned about the glowing effect when wide open than everything else. I have viltrox atm and while I hardly use anything below 2.0, having extra stop of light never hurts

  13. I do believe that the samsung T5 issues only isolated to the 500gb or 250 gb models. I have 1Tb and 2Tb versions and never have any problems connecting. The 500 gb I tested on the other hand did established some trouble connecting pre FW6.1

As we are all aware even in the same line of media the higher capacity normally have higher spec. I suspect this unreliable ssd connection issue coming from the fact that BM should have quoted the specific model in their list instead of the whole line up.

Exactly those I use these days, no issues ever by my side.

the same that I used only different capacity. This is one thing I don't understand why people keep complaining about how expensive media this camera use. You can use dirt cheap card or cheap ssd. why the hate?
