Nice collection, some ones in there I'm not too familiar with.  If you feel inclined I'm sure lots of people would appreciate seeing a video with some footage from each of them so people can make a bit of a comparison.  Extra useful if they're in the same lighting conditions.  If you're still in Melbourne then I'm sure an overcast or rainy day would have pretty consistent lighting, maybe you can get shots of Melbournites celebrating the climate of their home city by madly dashing through a downpour trying to avoid puddles :)

I've got two Helios 58mm f2 lenses and the Mir 37mm f2.8 and found them to be quite different in character.  The Helios is pin sharp in the centre and falls away significantly, even when on MFT where you're only looking at the centre of the lens, whereas the Mir had a different character.  They also all change character from wide open to stopped down a couple of stops, so there's lots of variables going on.

I was particularly excited to get the Mir because it is supposed to be apochromatic, and to its credit that did give it a different rendering, but I ended up going a different direction and have chosen the Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8, which is not only faster but is also considered one of the sharpest lenses ever made (if not the sharpest).  I have no idea if that's true but it's not that typical vintage look!

I remember that video of the busker from when you posted it previously, it's nice work and the IQ is very nice.  I think many many people would be happy with the combination of the resolution and beefy codecs of the P4K through vintage glass that takes that modern sheen off it.

I have to find the time to do it so can't promise anything atm.

Your finding is similar to mine. I only use the 37 for the occasion shot and much prefer the 35 F2 for the same reason. Another issue with the mir 37mm is the big minimum focus distance. Not a deal breaker but can be annoying sometime.

    You're welcome!!

I'm assuming they're all Russian lenses?  I think I can spot the Helios 44 and Mir 37 in there, but the rest aren't obvious to me :)

I say it a few times,  the world doesn't need new cameras, but new stories. Because I recently bought very cheap BMPCC and BMMCC, So my GH5 most of the time, lies unused on the shelf.. What I see on the new BMPCC4K is exactly what I see on GH5, but the colors of the old BM just don't!

I don't know but I prefer the look of the new bmpcc4k in your clip. I used to have a BMPCC and to be honest I would be happy with either of them. But side by side like that, I would take the new bmpcc4k.

On a side note, tried some vertical filming the other day.

Only because someone brought up the XT-3 again and I just moved from that platform, I'd say it has the best image coming SOC.  Set that thing to Eterna or Classic Chrome, transcode to ProRes and then do your thing in Resolve or Premiere.

How did you find colour matching fuji and bm?

    That's the one.

I guess it's the camera pulling too much power form the battery and through the monitor, which burns some stuff inside the monitor. Another route people are going is using a batter that also has DC out. There's a link around here somewhere for one of those. It'll essentially do the same thing, but the monitor should be safe(r).

    you're talking about my post.

FYI, I haven't tested it out yet since no one sells it to Australia.

sounds like a clever marketing ploy, they mention only the filter stack of the sensor,  new optics and compatibility only with the bmp4k. I guess somewhere, there is a room filled, with a bunch of men in little white coats they need to feed. With a new camera on the scene there is no better way of generating a new niche market than preying on peoples perceived weaknesses of a particular design. we already know that the  XL 0.64x0.71x   work fine on the bmp4k. Seems to me their pushing the exclusivity thing abit ( you have the best new 4k camera now go buy the best new 4k speed booster that incidentally only works on the bmp4k. because you owe it to yourself,  blah blah blah )

i have heard that some earlier bm cameras had an issue with filter stack thickness, but i would think bm would have sorted it out by now, if they hadn't, we would have heard of it by now on the forums. if the filter stack is an issue with the XL 0.64x or the ULTRA 0.71x why isn't an issue with any  lenses we attach to the front of the camera ?  (maybe my logic is flawed if i'm wrong feel free to enlighten me ) i think metabones is grasping at straws by bringing that up.  Percentage wise, how much better can it be ?  I think the bmp4k has slightly bigger sensor from the original if i remember the stats correctly (which  is where the optimized optics come in i presume ) perhaps they have added some contacts for added functionality with the bmp4k or an electronic nd filter but thats some pretty wild speculation on my part. I don't have a speed booster yet so  be interesting to see how things develop. if the new speed booster is 10%, 20% better i'll buy one. Otherwise i'll probably buy a  cheap XL 0.64x0.71x that's recently found its way to ebay ?

they might add the locking mechanism from cine series since bmp4k is a proper cinema cam.

@xzobinx I am sure that you know this already but, the 12V port on the camera is designed to take 12V-20V. The battery outputs 8.4V-6V. I am surprised that the camera even turns on with only 8V plugged into the 12V port. I suggest that you get a 12V output battery sled like this one: https://amzn.to/2Fp0I4u  I have 3 and they work fine for me. I also use dtap straight from a v-mount battery to the 12V port and it works great. The camera lasts basically all day with one big v-mount battery.

If you run a cord straight from the battery, I recommend that you use a dummy battery. The camera is designed to use lower voltages from the battery port. If you use a dummy battery, you will also lose the ability to hot swap your battery during a long shoot.

I have 15-20 of those batteries and they work great. I have had only had one of them die over the past 2 or three years of regular use. I have the batteries numbered, but I don't keep track of when I buy them, so I have no idea how long the batteries lasted before dying.

IIRC, I think that Tom Antos mentioned killing some of his monitors that provide power to the camera because of the heavy power draw from the BMPCC4K, so I would hesitate trying to draw power from the monitor.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend a store that will ship those to Australia.

thanks for the head up. I'm aware of your concerns

-the 8v should be able to run the camera but not be able to turn it on. So it requires a battery inside the camera at all time. This is similar to using a Sony NP power sled without step up transformer built in. I do have a sony NP power sled and other battery option like the batbox 4k but I'm looking for a smaller setup with a monitor.

-Tom Antos did fired a couple of his monitors. However, he power it through the 8v dc out of the monitor. My plan is actually power form the dc out of the battery.

-They used to have an older version of the battery with 12v dc out which would be perfect. Unfortunately they "upgrade" it   :(

I assume this has probably been discussed a lot but I am curious what glass you guys are using with the P4K?

I assume there are a lot of Sigma 18-35mm users and native M4/3 lenses attached to the business end of your P4K, but is anyone using cinema lenses or rare vintage lenses, or even some oddball Franken-adapted lenses?

I’d love to see some samples if possible.

Sigma 18-35 f1.8 and rokinon 85 f1.4 for sharp mordern look

MIR 35f2, helios 58f2 and helios 85f1.5 for vintage dreamy look. I might add a MIR 20mm f3.5 to complete this set.

I blamed @kye for the second set. He’s responsible for a quite a few good things in my life lately. Boys, it came out so wrong?

I thought that the camera should pull 100% power from the external battery / power adapter, then only pull power from the internal battery when the external battery is depleted. In my case, the camera showed the AC adapter indicator on the screen the entire time. I have several extra batteries, I just wasn't expecting it to drain the battery and die when plugged in to external power.

that was my plan but it doesn't seems to work like that. In my perfect world, the external power bank would be completely drained first. The internal battery kicked in and I'd be notified by the AC turning to percentage. Then I'd simply swap the power bank to keep the rig going.

This is the official start (and maybe quick death!) of the......

    3 Hour 1 Minute Film Challenge!!!1

    The rules:

    • You setup, shoot, edit, and upload a film in a single 3-hour period - no gaps, once you start the timer you can't stop it again
    • The final film must be 1 minute or less
    • If your finished film looks too good then others can challenge you about the 3-hour time limit and you must explain yourself to keep your reputation in tact
    • There are no prizes, no timeframes, and no judging
    • Everyone that makes a film and publishes it is a winner, people that don't try are losers, and people that try but fail should learn from their mistakes and just try again
    • There are no more rules

Can I post a film that I made it before this challenge but still fit the rules?

    and

Can I stretch the friendship  and have a 1:18 clip? ?

Hi all. I had something happen on a shoot the other day on one of my BMPCC4Ks. I think that I remember seeing a post about a similar behavior, but I can't find it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I had two of my P4Ks set up on a shoot. Each camera was connected to a NP970 battery through the external power port. Each camera had an internal battery as well. Each camera showed the AC indicator on the battery, so it should have been receiving power from the external battery. Each camera was recording BRAW.

After I had been filming for a while (~45 mins?) I noticed that one of the cameras had shut off. I turned the power switch off, then back on. The camera came back on, but soon shut down again. It did this several times. To troubleshoot, I pulled the external power. The internal battery showed ~40% charge. The battery was fully charged in the beginning. I replaced the battery, then reconnected the external power. The camera came back on and ran fine. A while later (~45 mins) it turned off again. I removed the internal battery, then the camera ran fine from the external power for the duration of the shoot. So, the camera drained two batteries, while connected to external power and while showing the AC indicator on the battery meter display.

Obviously, I want to run a battery internally with the external power so that I can hot swap the external battery if needed. It seems as if the camera was running from the internal battery, then shutting down when that battery was depleted, despite being connected to external power.

The other camera was configured exactly the same, but finished the shoot without ever turning off and with the internal battery at 100%.

Does anyone have any insights into this weird behavior?

    Thanks!

    I have similar issue.

    From my observation,

    • The BM battery came with my camera (2000mAh) ran fine with my external power rig for 2.5 hours. At this point, the battery bank cannot provide enough power any more and the camera start to drain the power from the battery. And I ran into the same issue of the camera can't turn back on again.
    • The OEM canon battery I have (1800mAh) can't work with the external power rig at all and drain after 1hour. Which is exactly like your case.

My work around is having a few 2000mAh LP-E6 in my bag just in case. But I would like to see if there's better solution.

  12. Thanks for the image. Here is my contribution. Just a quick grade so highlight was blown quite a bit

Drummer_1_25.3.jpgInteresting. while the colour looks fine on my mac display. It has heavy green cast on my iphone. Could someone please tell me what you see on your screen?

one more thing i learned at the soldier monument the aussie sun smashes the screen, its hard to see even at 5 pm in the afternoon. so i'm thinking some sort of hood will be pretty high on the agenda. i'm not saying the screen is bad,  just that the sun easily overpowers it. ok thats about it for, now next is play time with resolve, stay tuned for more updates on  a newbies appreciation off what a steep learning curve looks like with the bmp4k

as a fellow oz I know your pain. If you don't have an external monitor or rig and just want a cheap sun hood, I'd recommend getting these

Anyone. would share some original 4K/HD braw footage please to download? I would like to play with it in Resolve and Premiere until my cam arrives. I am mainly interested in high iso content but I accept everything. Thank you guys.

here is something for you. Can't remember the setting on top of my head but you can read the metadata. Not the best clip but hope it fits the bill.

Funny. I didn't find any delay. Yesterday, I went to my nephew baptism. I arrived very delayed with traffic coming from another town. I forgot to add the SSD, used to the SD card to record ProRes. In a few seconds, I picked up my SSD from a tiny photo bag and started to shoot BRAW Q5 practically instantaneously... I did find zero delay in-camera to be pretty honest : -)

BTW, in a word: BEAUTIFUL. This is more than a camera, more than a format, this a dream to finally become true.

It might due to the fact that my ssd is almost full. It must take extra time to read the existing footage for playback.

How long did it take you to get a response? I've send 3 or for requests over the last week or so, but hearing nothing back.

he came back to me after 2 days but I have to say I have the advantage of being local to him

Really? Real world feeling is instantaneously... as much as ANY other similar device. Actually, it is.

I feel people outside see it as a RED ONE. It isn't in every aspect whatsoever. Not even 5:1 compressed raw. You can reach 3:1 or constant quality mode(s) recording raw, so...

My issue after 6.2 is that while it boots up pretty quickly, it takes about 10-20 sec to read my ssd. Still bloody fast if you compare with almost any other cinema camera

    I do. I don’t promote stuff that I haven’t used.

The issue is Tea is a one man band. And it’s the wedding season atm in Australia which is his main business.

I can vouch for the guy and his after sale service. He replaced my faulty unit within a week so I’m a happy camper.
