i thought i would chronicle my adventures with a black magic p4k. also i didn't want to pollute the other bmp4k threads any further. so here we are,  had the camera 3 days now
first afternoon unboxed it, inserted the battery tried to charge it only to find it was already charged. obviously bm expect us to be frothing at the mouth in anticipation and they be  right,  quite considerate of them really when you think about it :). probably half discharged it by turning it on and pressing every button repeatably  in the name of science and to see what would happen and yes, not exactly scientific i know but it is one way to learn. did take some footage of some sheep being fed, again as a learning experience and yes i learned i have a lot to learn. first thoughts well there's been some talk around the lightness of the p4k and to be honest  picking up the box it was transported in did feel quite light after unboxing and putting a lens on it er.. a m42 50mm super takurmar, holding it and a canon 60d with a lens in it  in the other hand there wasn't much difference nothing noteworthy anyway. the next day got a chance to take it for a drive visited  a local soldiers memorial that's just been built. as quite a lot of locals went off to war. those that came back and others were settled around stanthorpe.  i'm kinda thinking of making it a documentry with the p4k as i think there's abit of a story to it. but that's another story. had no issues with the battery door or battery sticking yet. my battery compartment has a nice amount of wiggle room. speaking of batteries the bm battery doesn't seem to charge up in a canon charger as its the same battery as my canon 60d. i think i have seen somewhere on the forum that thats already known. i did just check my canon 60d battery compartment there is a lot more wiggle room compared to the p4k.  more scientific endeavors follow i learned a cheap $30 toshiba 32 gb sd card from woolworths will record with prores 422 1080 hd for about 5 mins, hey it was something i had lying around. i do have a samsung 1t t5 ssd for it but i dont have much of a rig for it yet and i didn't want to duct tape it to the p4k. one more thing i learned at the soldier monument the aussie sun smashes the screen, its hard to see even at 5 pm in the afternoon. so i'm thinking some sort of hood will be pretty high on the agenda. i'm not saying the screen is bad,  just that the sun easily overpowers it. ok thats about it for, now next is play time with resolve, stay tuned for more updates on  a newbies appreciation off what a steep learning curve looks like with the bmp4k

Did a bit of redesign this week, got two pieces cut on the waterjet for testing purposes. I changed the design of the ssd holder it now sits beneath the smallrig 15mm rails surprisingly  my measurements were rather accurate and all i had  to do was a little sanding to made things slide together. if i had to do it again i'd made things 0 .1 mm bigger for some wiggle room. The alloy clamp required the most time, broke out the dremel for that. The alloy holder clamp is a bit tall at the moment, i made it that way as i was guessing abit at the time. The last two pics are a bit of a mock up at the moment. i actually have the original clamp holder on the back at the moment. Not sure if i will get that machined to hold a step down ring or do something different. I am however happy that more progress has been made.

leslie reacted to Brian Caldwell in 2x anamorphic essentially 1.5x and 1.33x
The main reason for shooting 1.33x (actually, 1.344x would be best) is to get 2.39:1 output with no waste of a 16:9 sensor.  Shooting 2x on 16:9 and cropping throws away resolution.  Aside from these considerations, there is the aesthetic look that different squeeze ratios provide.  Many people dislike 1.33x because it doesn't look very anamorphic.  However, even 2x anamorphics don't always share the same look.  Rear anamorphics don't look anamorphic at all.  Zeiss 2x Master Anamorphics actually look more like 1.64x true front anamorphics due to their mixed front/rear design.

might have been a $100 us. However the aussie dollar did an impressive swan dive before i bought it (actually i dont even think the dollar has made back to the surface yet ) so it cost me alot more than that. Original stuff is always worth more i think, be it cars or camera bits.  At this point i'm keeping it pristine :) .
Been out with the p4k and the Olympus 15mm body cap lens to a local lookout and i quite like it. Maybe that's because a : i don't know any better or b : don't have anything better or c : all of the above ? .
has anyone bought a helicoid and inserted either a projector lens or enlarger lens inside it and how did it turn out ? i got to thinking about a helicoid after tuning the el nikor with the m42 extension tube.

when can we pick up our prototypes for betatesting ? ?
you probably going to need a large sample batch to statically minimize the  mean absolute deviation within specified control limits right ? ?

Use it to activate DR 16. One can use 2 licenced copies of DR (on 2 computers, or pn 2 partitions). If one attemps to use the same licence on the 3rd instance, it will activate the 3rd, but deactivate the others. However, one can always reactivate DR (within the limit of 2 instances), as well as deactivate DR through the Help menu.

Pretty amazing what some people come up with idea wise, and can actually pull it off. But the cameraman that jumped off the building getting that shot will probably Never be the same lol.

It's the very first anamorphic lens attachment ever built for cinematography. Before this, there was Henri Chretien's original optic. It is obviously double-focus only, as a variable diopter on top would need to be massive. Maybe one of these new wireless units from PD Movie could be calibrated to synchronize the focus movement with a prime lens. I do believe that this worked down to 40mm on standard 35mm. It was used with original Baltars from B&L.

I was messing with some old, test shots from my film. This one was shot with the older non-ai version of the Nikkor 28mm f/2. I’m still deciding on a monitor, so this was graded with my non-calibrated MacBook Air...
I’m slowly narrowing down my lens sets... finally.

hey i'm left handed, you make being left handed sound like an impediment  you should definitely rush out and buy a bmp4k now, it will improve your dexterity !!. Besides that, there is plenty of great footage shot with other cameras and i reckon there will plenty more great footage shot on other cameras. i'm not trying to sell bm cameras because well, there's no commission in it for me.  i do however like stirring the pot every now and then, don't take too much of what i say seriously. If your making birdie movies would not the 2x crop on the p4k get you closer to the action ? i know where your coming from my fitness level sucks as well. I caught some rare bug three years ago which took alot of the fun out of everything, but there are people out there doing it tougher than me so im not complaining.  i think the battery life is ok, certainly not spectacular. I tend to turn it off after i take a shot. it fires up in less then five seconds. maybe if i went to a carnival or a zoo i'd want another battery  or maybe another solution perhaps still considering,  but like anything, you have to work within the limits of what you have got.

anyone notice a jump in ebay prices over the last week or so. i swear items i'm watching have jumped upwards of $20-30 . might just be the aussie $ doing a swan dive of the harbour bridge however. Been watching some pentax  17mm and 20mm and the same in canon fd mount they seem to be going  ballistic in pricing, may as well just buy new.
i think most people would assume your shooting stills and try to go around you. most people will look to see if if your about to take a photo. some idiots (like me) will wander about aimlessly hoping for 5 seconds of fame ?
