its silly to say its the governments fault,  to hold them accountable for every little thing. People have brains, its up to people to exercise them and not require the government to do all the thinking for them. Regardless of which party is in power and where, none have been preparing for a pandemic. We have had sars, mers, bird flu, swine influenza, ebola outbreaks, half a dozen movies on various contagions, and the zombie apocalypse (er..... another movie reference ) yet no one has prepared. Most likely because  there's like a 1% chance of an outbreak considering everything else thats been going on in the world.  Yet it looks like  someone just rolled a 1. As i see it, if your not a Christian the best anyone can do is ride it out, otherwise start praying if you haven't already. Now i know god isn't a popular topic but i think we should keep all options on the table 😉 feel free to flame away i can handle it.
i do have one other issue and i dont really want to appear as i'm picking on you mr reid, however i'm a bit disappointed that you chose to lock kyes screw buying new cameras thread, rather than shift it to the lenses forum, i feel kye put a fair bit of effort into that thread  not to mention others contributions and its a bit disheartening to see it locked away.

Let's get this thing started then. Here's my entry.
All hand held and in natural light (except for one shot, no points for guessing which one)
Filmed in less than an hour, paid for by a beaming little face when the finished project was ready to watch.

i do envy your L series canon lenses.😉
my plans tend to fluctuate abit depending on my mood. Which might be an over dramatization, but you get the idea. If i had the money i'd be leaning towards the sirui anamorphic for the sheer convenience. But i have the elmoscope type 1 already, so it probably makes more sense to get a fvd for it.
i'm also interested in getting a wider faster lens. Trying to keep it in the family the pentax m42 35mm f2 seems to be a reasonable price on ebay, but the aus dollar has taken another tumble.  If i didn't keep it in the family  there's a lot more options to go wider and much faster however the cost seems to escalate rather rapidly.
With everything up in the air with corona virus and the aussie dollar sitting at the bottom of the Mariana trench i doubt i'll buy anything soon unless the lens market on ebay goes into freefall 🙄

Since there is a camera owning plans thread, why not?

My plans are just to try and hang on to the lenses i currently have (five main ones and a couple of outliers anyway).
Canon EF mount 17mm f4 L tilt shift
    Canon FD 24 1.4 L
    Sony Zeiss 55 1.8
Sigma 150 2.8 APO macro (EF mount)
    Tamron 300 2.8 adaptall MF
I still have a heap of others but most not used...occasional use of a Canon EF 20-35 2.8 L and FD 85 1.2 L but both have issues.
The 300 2.8 just might be my most used lens for people shooting over the coming months (perfect for portraits while social distancing).
IF (big IF), I get some money later this year after the current mess is over and the Aussie dollar climbs the mountain again, I would like to get the new Sony 20 1.8 but that is more like I am dreaming.

yeah with the aus dollara at the moment looking at ebay is just like window shopping 🙄
colour me cynical, i doubt that the government even cares, a low aus dollar just means someone can can sell more iron ore, aluminum and coal, yay more royalties/ taxes. Of course the other side of the coin is,  to buy something costs more  + gst so as far as the government is concerned its a win / win.

Reliable auto focus is obviously nice, but people really have become obnoxious about it. I see it on YouTube, where people regurgitate the same talking points (even GH5 users will say the auto focus is "awful" which is bullshit; its perfectly usable in a lot of situations), and I see it here when people beat the dead horse about auto focus for every camera that doesn't match Sony or Canon's performance.
It goes without saying that we'd all love great auto focus performance in every camera. BUT I'll see people write off other cameras completely because the auto focus doesn't nail the completely unrealistic / unnatural tests where people pop in and out of the frame like morons on a camera that's completely stationary on a tripod or because it takes too long to focus on an object you've decided to place in front of the camera instead of using b-roll that will give people an even better view of the item.
I've filmed hundreds of pro wrestling events on my GH5. Each one featured faster, more unpredictable action than any silly YouTube test. Do you know how many important shots I've missed because of its "awful" auto focus? None. Because, like with all cameras, you learn to overcome its shortcomings with use and experience. And in venues where lighting was poor, making the auto focus less reliable, I've gladly used manual focus because it's easier than ever to do, with all the focus assists most cameras have these days.
I don't believe in making things harder than they have to be, but learning how to get the most out of your camera, including learning how to become competent with manual focusing, isn't a bad idea.

Heh. We kinda sort of had this just happen in New Zealand.

For ages NZ did next to nothing, had a pretty minimal approach.  Our Prime Minister said we didn't need to.

And then BOOM, almost overnight we've basically kinda closed our borders off (NOBODY can come, not unless they want to get themselves live two weeks in isolation once they arrive) and any gathering over 500 people is banned.

Either that, or a world wide macro lens test, as everybody uses the only actors they can find while under house arrest quarantine:

i think in one aspect you guys in the northern hemisphere are lucky as you guys are moving into spring. Down here we are heading into autumn / winter. Winter and the the corona virus + your normal cold / flue could be a rather bad mix. Sixty minutes were saying we have about 2000 emergency beds last night, easy to see those beds getting overwhelmed unless they slow the spread of it, which is what this whole lock down thing is about. Now i have nothing against the aussie hospital system, in fact i'd say we have it pretty good all things considered.  However if things do go pear shaped it easy to see hospitals running out of ventilators, medicines , beds pretty easily. Since every country is probably at the same level, supplies are most likely going to get a bit thin to share around. Personally i wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be a bit of a storm in a tea cup. Maybe a few thousand more people die than a typical year. Sad i know but people are always dying. What scares me is we get a bit blase about it all and something really nasty smashes us in a couple of years time.
I already have compromised lungs from a bug called sarcoidosis so if i catch corona virus, it will probably be, all over red rover 🙄  I plan on starting to wear a mask if i have to go into town just to be on the safe side. I used to have a giggle about all the asian backpackers wearing masks even before this outbreak, er... i'm not giggling anymore.
