It's criticized for being the worst camera of the year for video at this price. With unusable rolling shutter and massive joke-like freaking crop together with underwhelming specs particularly in slowmo, it might win the prize at April Fools day but that's it. 

When you are Canon and you release that crap in 2018 you deserve all critics in the world. The fact it is soft or not does not matter considering the above. Last but not least, its FHD is so soft you might as well ask a blind guy what's on the image, he might "sense" it better than you ?

Max repeatedly stated that this was the first of several tests. I'd rather see his findings as he shoots them, then wait a month for a 40 minute video with all the results in every category. 
 

This is such a bad argument. 
First of all Nikon and Canon are supposed to know how to make a camera already. It’s not their first camera at all. 
Secondly, it’s not about the generation number, it’s about which generation year it is. So if Olympus releases in 2025 a FF camera when everyone is doing 8K60p, because it’s their first generation you expect It to be what, a 2015 competitor ? Non sense. 
All those company have been doing cameras for years and have access to the same things. So no, there is no reason at all that because they did not have a FF mirrorless before, that it should not match competition. It’s even easier for them because they can analyse easy where Sony failed and won, and can develop the camera accordingly. They can see people yelled at Sony for 1 SD port, so they can just put 2 (well they didn’t). 
NO EXCUSE, especially for Canon. I agree the Z7 is a great camera I was just disappointed at the test from Max. But the camera in general is great, unlike the EOS R joke.

Mattias, I get you just like the Canon image, but I feel it’s because of people like you that Canon get away with the absurdity they do. In this day and age with the technological advancements made in the field, Canon should be doing more but deliberately choose not to. We could/should have a much richer and detailed image full frame 4K (downsampled 6k) WITH the choice to to turn down sharpening for a less detailed image at the very least! 
Canon with all their money and R&D should be able to acquire the best chips and sensors to fit the purpose. With their large market share and projected sales should be able to negotiate all this at better cost than some of their rivals. They choose to do none of this but screw us and sell us outdated tech for even more money increasing their margins all the while. 
Yes I too like the canon image because it was easy to get good colour but today that advantage is minimal to non existent. Canon really needs to be forced to step up and deliver. I feel they are now feeling the pressure but as we can clearly see with the Eos R, they are still trying to resist. There’s so much wrong with that camera that colour science just can’t cover up but when people like you keep spewing that mantra, or ‘soft is actually better’ nonsense, there is no progression. 
I love magic lantern and what they did for the community and us canon faithful, but I can’t help feel that if it had never happened Canon would have been forced to deliver much earlier. 

XT3 truly is something. It is what the "video oriented" XH1 should have been.

Fujifilm X-T3 wins it! A very special little camera. Great at both stills and video... frankly it's a bargain.

Also they can keep playing games all they want. Its because of the name "Canon" it sells it self. Doesn't matter how terrible the product is, people are going to buy it cause its Canon. 
Canon is the ONLY brand that could release a camera like the 6Dmkii in 2018.
Imagine the backlash if Sony, Fuji, or Panasonic released a camera with the 6dmk2 specs at $2,000. 
If Canon shooters want better specs then stop buying their current gen cameras.

I think Canon shooters care most about ease of use/ergonomics (Flip screen and barebones menu) and good glass options? Also Canon color. 
I think if image quality is the most important to you, your avoiding canon stuff at this point.

Boy the Canon is just terrible in that test on every aspect. Crazy.

The variable electronic ND will always draw me to this camera. That level of control over exposure cannot be undervalued. On my radar to pick up at some point.

No zebra's and a histogram that disappears after you press record?? Did not see anyone else mentioning this up untill now. Canon crippled the camera just enough to make it clear their c-line is for video. Kai also again mentions RS and shows it, better watch quickly before he ninja-edits it out again.

A6300 is also doing 6K full sensor readout hence its rolling shutter issues though

Sony A6300 was released 2 1/2 years ago, you can buy 5 of them for one EOS-R, and it has less of a crop

in a perfect world the best A camera to use with an A6500 is the Sony FS7

To be fair, the rolling shutter is also pretty shit on the NX1 - but that is doing a 6K readout, no crop, and it's 4 years old!!
If the EOS R were a laptop, it'd run DOS.
