Alt Shoo got a reaction from Video Hummus in JVC GYLS300 In 2019
@Anaconda_thank you! I filmed mostly in 4k internally, with some shots externally to a Video Assist 4k in pro res. Some shots were in 2k and 1080 only because I had only one card on me and wanted to maximize the content gathering.
As of now we are doing a screening tour along the eastern shore of the US. We are talking to major streaming services right now, but nothing is etched in stone. By January we will know our direction in that regard.

The screen grab with the red hat is pro res and the other is the internal dci 4k codec.

The JVC Gyls300 is still very relevant and capable in 2019 and well beyond it! I just finished a culturally important urban documentary, that I’ve been working on for two years, titled ‘Marcy Made’, which 95 percent of it was filmed with the JVC!
The documentary is about DeHaven Irby. DeHaven Irby for those who may not know, was a very good friend of Jay-Z and was the person responsible for bringing Jay-Z into the game. Jay is actually DeHaven’s daughter god father. Anyways they aren’t friends anymore and things have been said on both sides about one another.
Their friendship ceased when DeHaven was sent to prison and Jay-Z left him there without any explanation of why. When DeHaven was released, he published a YouTube video in 2008, which went viral. In it he talked about a lot of issues with him and Jay, but wasn’t specific, so he left a bunch of questions unanswered. Jay-Z responded in one of his records, “So fuck DeHaven for caving, that’s why we don’t speak, Made men ain’t supposed to make statements!” In essence calling him a snitch...... This documentary answers all of those questions and shows that DeHaven isn’t a snitch. It also reveals the true reason behind their split.
I had a screening of it this past Friday (9/27/2019) at Firelight Studio in Brooklyn, NY and these are just some pics of the venue’s screening room. I must say that the GYLS300’s image held up wonderful on the screen! I prefer a higher bit color rendition from a cinema camera, but the 8bit IQ coming from this sensor is still capable of competing!

I finally released my last feature in streaming. It's now on Amazon's Prime Video here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZHRZ782
    It's a Drama/vengance/thiller type
I little bit of history with this.
I started to shot this film in the end of 2013 (yes almost 7 years). It took almost 3 years in production. It was shot with a couple of Nikons DSLRs and Super 16mm film. Since it's first screening in the Mar Del Plata International Film Festival in 2016, the film was going around thru some festivals and other screenings. It finally got a theatrical release locally (Argentina) in march this year. It's preaty hard to get distribution to some "kind" of movies.
As you can see, this is a very looong process when you are a "newcomer" in the business, but you just to keep pushing.
I still have in plan try to reach some other platforms. Only time will tell.

Has anyone here bought a Panavision DXL?  ?

Whether or not someone on this site bought something has no reflection on the innovation nor quality of the item in question.

I don't think that I ever actually knew what the rental prices were on any one of the different Dalsa 4K raw cameras.

Nevertheless, Dalsa was offering 4K raw long before it was even a glint in Jannard's eye.

Keep in mind that the first ones to break ground usually incur the most development cost and sink the most resources into a type of product.  So, initially, a new type of product is usually very expensive.  Often, someone with deep pockets sees the development, and swoops into a market to take advantage of it (and gets all the credit).

How does that $15K, very late-to-market, buggy RED One compare to a $1,500 Pocket4K?

Do you see how that works?

Jannard just rode a wave.  Raw video and higher resolutions were inevitable in cinema cameras, as was raw compression.  He didn't invent really anything.

The only thing I wish the Fp had was phase-detect on-chip autofocus.
And maybe an articulated screen like the RX1R II
It is an amazing, unique camera as it is, and an absolute blast. Last time I had this much fun was when I first picked up a GH2 all those years ago.
    60p in 12bit 1080p RAW.
4K 60p RAW Cinema DNG file sizes would be astronomical. Like 6 min per 128GB or something crazy.
Yes, I wish it had 4K/60p full frame 10bit but we are not in year 2022 yet  Not even S1H can do it. Super 35mm mode.

@Alt Shoo - congratulations on the film! It sounds very interesting.
Did you shoot in 4K? And what about the final distribution / screening format.
If course it doesn’t really matter, and I still enjoy using my LS300, I’m just interested in other workflows haha.

We still can’t discredit the image quality from these devices, but the whole thing is that RED is unethical! Point blank period. All of their claims about how their camera came to fruition, which we know by now and no need to repeat, are false. Sure they researched the best off the shelves products and amalgamated it to a durable chassis and  I totally get capitalism, but this feels like thievery.

No it connects over wifi as per their web interface stuff.
Its actually going to form part of a far more elaborate controller for multiple JVC units so other versions will be able to more than just turn the record on and off
This was more of a solution to a personal pet peeve I have with it and as a proof of concept after, erm, figuring out how their web control worked.

When I was buying hybrid at 2015 GH4 wasn't even close to what the Samsung NX1 could do. It was almost laughable how much better the NX was, but put me an GH5/GH5S/P4K in front of me and ask me now. M43 upped their game so much in video, that is almost uunbelievable..
To be fair the NX1 is still the better photo camera than any of these, but the video quality is lacking in 2019 terms.

I'm guessing they're in the very early stages of development. It'll probably be awhile before we get much info.
The LS300 really is a wonderful camera. It deserved so much more attention and respect. My biggest issue is the menu system is straight up from the 1990s. I've even softened on the plastic build quality, as I appreciate that it's not too heavy (though it could be a little bit heavier!)
You can pick them up used these days for so little money, it's insane.

I’m hoping JVC announces something soon. I’ve actually been holding off on purchasing any new cameras until they reveal their specs. Reason being that I truly enjoy using the GYLS300! Even with the Eva1, which I own, I’m 95 percent of the time using the JVC. I love the ergonomics and I love the IQ.  Come on JVC Kenwood release some information!
