Novim got a reaction from Jedi Master in Some simple advices for youtubers
    1. What makes you(tuber) think that I'm interesting to look at your face most of the time? If your video is about Something, make it to be about that Something, not about your narcissistic persona.
    2. "Do not saw the air too much with your hand thus, but use all gently, for in the very torrent, tempest, and (as I may say) whirlwind of passion, you must acquire and beget a temperance that may give it smoothness." Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act III, Scene 2, 1603 AD. - So, tie your hands behind your back until you get used to not sawing the air.
    3. If you must have some kind of opening, make it short. And do not let me wait for 30-60-90 seconds for actual start, go for It as soon as possible.
    4. Also, do not put loud soundtrack that drums or screams into my ears. I'm not interested in your "musical" taste, nor I came to watch you video for that. Be polite. (And try not to use loud soundtrack in background that interferes with your voice and words.) Be articulate.
    5. Do not bother me by asking to like or subscibe to your video)s). If they are interesting to me, then I'll do it.
    6. Rehearse or make a plan beforehand, practice, that will make you more "pro" than any other gimmick.
    7. Try to be economic with time. Do not waste yours, nor mine. Be short, precise and (and at least try to be) intelligent. Do not repeat yourself.
    8. Find someone who would be critical but fair about your videos, and show them to him or to her, then listen. Four eyes could see more than two. Especially if you are trying to be innovative.
    9. Don't just give to me your precious opinions. Give me the reasons why you think so-and-so, and then I'd accept your opinions (or I won't).
    10. Go to the good museums, read clever books, watch classic movies. Your personal culture always needs improving.

For my own purposes I am still with BM Pocket (2K, the 1st generation), and (when 4K is needed) the GX85, both paired with stabilized Lumix G X 14-42/3.5-5.6 or, for low light, PanaLeica Nocticron 42.5/1.2. My students use different gear, some "professional", some latest and "greatest". Personally, unless you are in film or TV industry, the gear does not much matter, as long as you have a story to tell, light to follow and angle to shoot from. The rest is good editing of motion and sound. 😊

A few shorted manuals for DaVinci Resolve (the full manual is 3,200 pages long):
The Beginner's Guide to DR 16 (444 pages, direct download here)
Advanced Editing with DaVinci Resolve 15, Introduction to Fairlight Audio Post with DaVinci Resolve 15, Color Correction with DaVinci Resolve 16, Fusion Visual Effects with DaVinci Resolve 16 - manuals on this BMD page here.
In these days of auto-isolation it is not bad to volve the pages of the manuals, something we never had enough time. - Stay safe.

Dont care about 8K. 5.5K RAW is a “nice to have” but mostly likely impractical with media storage costs but could change.

Novim reacted to Andrew Reid in Idolise Trump? Goodbye!
Looking at recent posts objectively, it is always the same users who end a perfectly good discussion on this forum with toxic bullshit.
    I am coming after you.
    It is a cull.
    It isn't about politics.
    It's about values!
To protect a community I love... I have no choice.
To be clear, it is none of my business which way you vote. What matters is behaviour, character, values.
If you've been a good contributor here and kind to people you get to stay.
If not, then you are going to be asked to leave and I will pursue people who return under a different name.
This is purely because there are now far too many posts being trashed and too much arguing driven by people with the wrong values which I despise.
I am going to use this week to draw up a list of people who strongly align themselves with Trump's politics of America First.
And I will be getting rid of the lot of you.
Yes you can say it's a political purge but I prefer to think of it as purely about values and about protecting users who DO contribute positively to the forum.
If these idiots are allowed to get away with bringing Trump idolising bullshit into this community then all our work will be for nothing and Russia with their fake-user farms will have won too, because I am 99% sure at least a few of the idiots are completely made-up shill users whose role is to divide us politically and weaken our online communities.
At a time when we must pull together as a camera-community, as filmmaking industry, even as a country, indeed as a world - to get through tough economic times ahead - dumb arguments which ignore factual data are a waste of time.
What has happened to the world in recent weeks is stressful enough and I personally do not need to hear from certain people in every thread. I will not be providing a platform for Red cap wearing idiots who haven't contributed a single shot or image to this forum.
I get that EOSHD has a big US readership, in fact the US contribution to my site is the largest in the world and I want to keep as many of you as possible and not lose any friends who just happen to disagree with me on politics.
But if you are going to be a shill for Trump's politics or somebody who is a complete shit-stirrer and troll, then I will no longer be turning a blind eye to it and the cull starts now...
Have fun on your way out.

Beg to differ, my experience is just the reverse one. With P4K (Braw) one can do what ones wants, go in both directions ("organic" vs "digital"); not with GH5. Yellow-red shift could depend on lenses, settings, lights etc. "Run & Gun" section also depends on what one is shooting.

A very interesting test of Rick Lang on BM forum (here) : a comparison between Q0 and Q5. One his conclusions: "Q0 versus Q5? Of course Q0 must be better because it’s a lot higher data rate. The design goal of the ‘Q' is a quality image and how could Q5 match Q0 with so much less data? In a word: it’s Blackmagic. Sometimes some elements in either Q5 or Q0 are ‘better’ than the other; it’s not a race in which one runner is in the lead throughout the race. Q5 makes some sacrifices that you can see, but it seems to have some less understood running style and I have to admit in this video, it emerges victorious, not only in fidelity but also edge sharpness."

Grant Petty has nothing to do with the decisions made in PR in Knutsford. And to be fair to Blackmagic, said PR team were apologetic afterwards and in favour of reaching out. I believe it would be a very constructive relationship if they genuinely put some effort in.
JB's rudeness on here is legendary, but it's in the past as far as I'm concerned, we as a community moved on from him.
Hook contributed straight forward answers and good info.
There are far more viewers than contributors in this post.
How about some more constructive contributors to satisfy that audience of 1 million who have tuned in?
Those people who are posting good info is what this thread and indeed whole forum are about.
The bitching should always take a backseat.

We are on the similar line of thinking, it seems to me (subtle, almost "unnoticable", more unconscious-driven repetitions of little patterns). And, after you finish, let it remain for a day or two (or more, better), and than come back and give to it the "final cut". Your task is to find a shape to a mass of clips, to arrange a chaos, and also you could use, perhaps, the school  so-called "3 minutes" rule (i.e. after every 3 minutes sequence put something diffrent, or begin a new sequence). - All I say is "theoretical", of course, and just suggestions, but sometimes it helps. ? Good luck!
(I also use, very often, XC10 for docos, now combined with DJI Osmo Pocket which is better than my 6+ iPhone because of stabilisation and 4K. P4K is when I want to go special. ? )

Interesting ideas.  I'm familiar with repetition and evolution in music, but how would you do this kind of thing visually?
Just thinking out loud here, but at a shot-level it would be kind of hard to create in the edit, but you could have little patterns in sequences like a wide-medium-tight at the beginning of each scene perhaps, or a certain rhythm in the cuts perhaps.  I heard that in film school they talk a lot about layers, so you have these recurring themes that don't directly influence the plot but kind of weave the footage together on an aesthetic sense perhaps, like colour schemes, or set design, or language, etc.  I guess the answer is probably all of these things.
In a sense I have developed my own visual language with a title sequence that is similar for all videos, and I tend to do straight cuts when I'm cutting within a location or event, and use dissolves when I'm transitioning from one location or event to another one.  I have noticed that other travel films have used a quick fade-to-black for scene changes which gives a different feel.  I'm still working out how best to get from one location to another, if it should be travel b-roll or not, etc, but it is a repetition of sorts.
I mostly just edit down the events I film in the order they happened, and I know that docos are often highly chopped up.  It made sense to me how you could have a three-act structure (or other structure) in a drama, and also in a doco, but I couldn't see a link in-between my sequential editing and these structures, but I think I'm starting to understand how I could subtly weave such things into my edits.  It wouldn't be obvious, and I already have a kind of emotional arc by using the shape of the music I include, but I can see that you could push things further with subtle things like edit timings, grading changes to make the film ebb and flow a bit more, etc.  These techniques might be the way to give my films an ending without deviating from the chronology of how things actually occurred, which I'm keen to stick to, at least for the moment.
    Definitely something to contemplate!

@kye Just a suggestion: find the clips that could be organized in repetition (like leit-motifs), it could help to the structure of the whole. Another suggestion: since in every artwork the meaningful end comes usually before the actual last element, find the end beforehand (I tend to have 2-3 endings, as a kind of a coda).

It reminds me of The Borgias (Showtime TV series, 2011-13, with Jeremy Irons), which was good for the first 2 seasons, but in the 3rd went down into BS, and was cancelled abruptly. ?
