Django got a reaction from ntblowz in Sony A7S III
No camera is perfect. We all have different needs.
S1H is Netflix approved as it is one of the only large sensor hybrids that check marks their capture requirements ie. Timecode, high bitrate 10-bit 4:2:2 Log, DCI 4K, Anamorphic support. Of course the fact it has an active cooling system and won't overheat doesn't hurt. Narrative work rarely requires AF lenses so AF simply isn't an issue. It also has all the cine cam features like LUT assist, vector scopes etc.
But for hybrid shooters, solo video shooters, vloggers, youtubers etc. AutoFocus is crucial, especially in FF which rules out the Pannys.
R5 vs A7S3. Tough call. On paper, R5 should destroy A7S3. It has 45MP, 8K, DCI 4K, Better IBIS, better ergonomics, internal RAW.
..but in the real world, all that means nothing if your camera can't operate because it overheated.
so by default, it would seem A7S3 wins. However if you're an outdoor shooter in warm weather, A7S3 may overheat even faster than R5.
and when A7S3 overheats, it completely shuts off while it appears R5 allows you to switch to pixel-binned 4K.. but HQ recovery times are long.
A7S3 does appear to be the safer bet if you're hard pressed for an upgrade. But if you already have an A73, is 12MP non-oversampled 4K really worth the 4200€ investment? Maybe for the HFR & 10-bit. I'll let you be the judge. Personally I'm not rushing in to buy either, hate being a beta-tester to first gen e-products.

Django got a reaction from Stanly in Will Canon recall the EOS R5? Small first shipments
The NFS tests are very interesting, especially Test #2 where 1500 photos were taken before switching the R5 to video mode & they still got over 17 minutes of 10-bit 8K recording.
That particular test seems to kinda contradict Gerald’s tweet about not having a single second of HQ video after shooting stills for an hour.
Speaking of Gerald, he did a 3 hour live stream about R5/R6. I haven’t had time to watch it but just happened to skim through it and he addressed Dan Watson’s A7S3 vs R5 overheat results. He kinda cops out by saying their pre production Sony units may be different and then suggests to Dan to redo the test with the Sony camera -in the shade- as he admits direct sunlight may not dissipate heat correctly on the Sony.
Perhaps he should be the one to take the A7S3 out in the sunlight to corroborate or not Dans results.

Django got a reaction from Geoff CB in Nikon will announce Z6s/Z7s updates, with dual card slots and 4K 60fps
Again I respectfully disagree. Z6 isn’t bad but you’re making it to be a bit more than what it is.

Z6 can’t shoot RAW. You need to send the camera in for a paid upgrade and then it unlocks ProRes RAW externally. You’ll still need to buy and attach an Atomos recorder.

Not a very elegant, practical or cheap solution.
The inclusion of internal Log recording would be much more useful on a MILC.
Also your claim that “ Nikon Z6 is after all the only sub $3K FF camera with 4K raw!“ is false. Sigma FP does FF internal RAW DNG recording for $2K.

What’s funny is this camera is barely even out, And it is already redeemed DOA.

Anyone here old enough to remember A7S2 launch? There was like one batch and then 4-6 months back order. Back then the tsunami was claimed to have disrupted Sony’s sensor facilities.

I have no idea what the stock situation is with R5 or if a recall is planned but we are barely through a global pandemic and COVID19 did cause Canon Japan factories to shut down.

    Just saying..

Typical bait & switch salesman tactic. Oldest trick in the book.
Listen, I’m no conspiracist. But you people are so naive.
Gerald isn’t your friend. He’s running a business. A YouTube gear review business.
I wanna be there when his three A7S3s brick out on assignment in the field. But oh wait, that’s not his concern, he’s not a filmmaker, he’s a YouTube lab tester. Never leaves his temp controlled studio.
Basically the vidéo gear equivalent of Unbox Therapy. Good, we need people like them testing gear. But take their clickbait catch phrases with a grain of salt.

..and hence the hype train carries on around the blogosphere/forums and sponsored links bring in the revenue.
    Perfect technical masterpiece my a**.

By the way, I’m saying all this as a Sony user interested in the A7S3.
I won’t however give it a free pass in the overheat department, nor will I let Gerald off the hook for not taking his review unit outside and tweeting folks to ignore other people’s  overheat testings.
    End rant.

Just saying he could have gotten 100k of sponsorship from Sony.... 10% re-invested. I would not trust any of these YT reviewers as I would not trust any car dealer.... they do their job and is up to the consumer to verify from multiple sources and ideally from people using it for a while how it really perform....

Not sure all this hysteria .... just wait that a few users here and on other forums buy this and the R5/R6 and see all the issue and reports. Basing a decision on these YT influencers is just silly..... is good that they exist as they give a lot of info and I wish more original files but they have their business to run.

Also after watching the Gerald Undone video, I’m a little suspicious over his motives.

He went the extra mile with the R5 overheating tests, causing many people to cancel their R5 pre-orders.. but then says in his video “the A7S3 doesn’t  overheat” when we know from several sources it does overheat and VERY quickly at that in direct sunlight.
I guess he covers his bases at the end when he says he only did “lab tests” i.e no outdoor field tests.. but not such a thorough reviewer after all.
Furthermore, he mentions several times that he cancelled his C300 II purchase in favor of two A7S3’s. He never goes into the reasons why. I find that kinda sus.
