^Agreed. Most of my clients don't have a clue what I'm shooting with. Could I get by with a 5D3? Probably, most of my deliveries are still in FHD. New gear can be inspiring though and the features they bring are useful to me as a DP.
    XT2/XH1 has a 0.2x crop when shooting 4K. So you're really at 1.7x instead of true 1.5x APS-C/Super35 like XT3/XT4 has.
Again, no client would ever notice that but it does make a difference when composing.
I personally skipped XH1/XT3 coming from an XT2 but will probably pick up an XT4.
I just love those dials, overall IQ and lack of OLPF on X-Trans sensors.

Cool, I checked last night but couldn’t find the feature.. only later to realize my video clips were FHD! (I rarely shoot 4K on EOS R because of the crop). D’Oh!

I've spent weeks wracking my brain on how Matt Granger made it to 661,000 subscribers
And I just can't possibly figure it out.
But it has happened and Matt is one of THE authorities on cameras.
Although sometimes he gets confused about the concept of a mirrorless camera.
"It shoots up to approximately 20fps with the mirror up"
THIS explains everything, including why I always had problems with that imaginary mirror in my GH5, it always seems to stay up out of the way and never make that satisfying flippy flippy sound.
Then it REALLY got me fhinking... why is it called a mirrorless?
The world is a really weird place, very confusing.
So I often turn to YouTube for the sheer quality of talent on there and the expertise to enlighten me in dark times...
    With the gift of knowledge.
In fact I envy the man. He is one of the biggest and best commentators along with the Northrup's and their whiteboard.
Who can say they don't deserve it....  The 5 minutes he spends quibbling over the difference between 19.1fps and 20fps is pure entertainment.

Canon have been working on 8K for a long ass time. In fact they first presented their prototype at Canon Expo in 2015:
Canon Expo 2015: 8K Cinema EOS technology demo camera recording to four external recorders
Some footage even appeared last year:
..and here is the official page of the mammoth housed in what most thought might be the C300 mk3:
    https://www.canon-europe.com/photokina/8k-camera/
"Capture exceptional detail with our first 8K camera in a Cinema EOS system."
Now what is sort of mind-boggling to me is that they are finally introducing this tech in a consumer camera first! 🤯

As far as ergonomics & features, the Canon competition have to start implementing stuff like internal NDs..
Sony especially should include the FS5's Vari-ND tech inside Alpha series.
I don't see them going too far up resolution/codec wise because of XDCam cannibalisation fear.
Panasonic are in the best position to compete on that front, but they really need to sort out PDAF, and maybe hire better design team (take some cues from Leica ffs)!
Fuji, I'd love them to do a proper cine cam, but make it radical by taking cues from retro 8mm pistol cams:

It's funny Canon always seems to be on the "Guilty until proven innocent" side. I mean I know it's hard to swallow for some because Canon has had a poor rep in the past, but please take a look at the 1DX3 specs.
To me it's a clear indicator Canon have changed strategies, and seriously upped the ante when it comes to video specs.
Pretty sure they're on a mission to sweep up the hybrid floor and take back their lead position.
In any case, this seems a solid camera on both photo & video side even with the unknowns .

Agreed. Sony are in a rut. They're $11K FX9 only does UHD. 10-bit but no internal Raw.
No way XDCam managers will let Alpha series equate let alone go above that.
Sony will have to fall back on other tech to impress their (shrinking by the minute) audience. Lowlight, megapixels, AF (insect recognition?) etc..

^I think that torch/hammer should really be passed on to Sony.. who keep recycling sensors & processors.. and still haven't gone beyond the 8-bit 100mbps 4K30p video specs introduced 5 years ago on the A7S2.
Meanwhile, Canon have introduced 5.5K RAW & 10-bit on 1DX3 and have now leapfrogged everyone with first 8K mirrorless.
That said, the R5 will surely have some limitations. I'm betting on no 10-bit internal. Maybe RAW.
8K with a crop? Burst? I'll let the sensor mathematicians make those calculations!

A7S3 Dev Team: Ok, back to the drawing boards folks.
Seriously, I don't see how Sony or anyone is going to compete with this in the near future.
Nikon took a hard L yesterday with the D6 announcement. Now Canon is here to finish them off.
This camera feels like the true successor of the 5D3 (let's just forget the 5D4/EOS R).
No more Touch Bar, joystick & scroll-wheel are back. Even the Rate button is there, hallelujah!
Canon is back for revenge with the 1DX3 & R5.
I'm just glad I stuck with them throughout the years (which will be regarded as the 'dark ages' lol).

Having worked in the corporate video field for close to a decade, I am sadly well too aware of such situations.
I've had my own share of cool projects that were green lit only to be later butchered by the PC police or worst: shelved during or after completion.
I know its games risk but the motives are often so ridiculous, and results in a total waste of time, money, creative talent & energy.
You would honestly expect in the creative field that a company like Fuji would stand behind their ambassador amidst such a ridiculous controversy, or at the very least issue a statement.. but just plain dropping him like that because of a few wild comments saying he should get punched in the face is vile imho.
  24. Thanks

Exactly. Fuji are wrong. The whole thing is a travesty. They are dragging his name through the internet outrage machine, too scared to defend him in case they lose a few camera sales.
If they really stood up for artists, rather than abusing them for profit, Fuji would defend him. As usual it tells us far more about Fuji's marketing men than it does about Suzuki's supposed "predatory" behaviour.
Again we see, sadly someone (@barefoot_dp) stating the obvious and because they consider it normal, it is somehow justified. Sure, companies can do whatever they like for profit. That's not news. Is it right? If they perceive edgy art to be a PR gaff all of a sudden is it ok to chuck one of your best known Japanese street photographers under a bus? When will you people get it, christ fucking wept.
In reality is not a kill-switch controlled by the company at their advantage, it is a reactionary hysterical kill switch controlled by a few outraged idiots on the internet.
Companies need to get a fucking GRIP IMO.
