Dave Maze got a reaction from kye in Canon M5 II or G7X III that shoot 4K
Canon rumors released some specs on the new G7X III and M5 II. I'm most excited to see what they do with the M5. The M5 is supposed to be a higher end camera from the M50...but the M50 is so so good IMO. If they have 4k with DPAF and no crop...now we're talking. That new sensor paired with the Digic 8 might allow that to happen. My thoughts are maybe at VidCon Canon will release the G7X Mark III. It's the perfect "vlogger" camera and would be a nice splash in the market coming off the trails of the Sony RX100 6.
We are going to VidCon next week so I will let you know if anything happens there.

Here are the specs from Canon Rumors:
    EC804 – Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III
    4.2x Zoom
    1″ sensor
    DPAF
    4k Video (no DPAF)
    GPS
This camera features a new Canon 1″ sensor
EC811 Canon EOS M5 Mark II
    28.3MP APS-C mirorless camera
    4K@30fps video and DPAF.
This camera features a new Canon APS-C sensor

Dave Maze got a reaction from Adept in Time to buy a used C500 or FS700 for ProRes Raw?
@Ollywood88 I love hearing your thoughts and perspective on the C500. I own and love my 1DC and have been hesitant to get rid of it. But C500 with Canon Raw makes a lot of sense for me and my workflow. Im having to convert all my MJPG files to ProRes on a daily basis and its a pain. If I could natively dump my footage into FCPX and actually have RAW. ooooh man.

I love the C300 mk1 and debated getting one as well...so having the C500 in addition to the 1DC would be a match made in heaven since they were sorta made together. So funny that it has taken this long for this tech to be obtainable enough for people like me. I think the C500 cost like $30,000 or something when it came out. I saw one on eBay for buy it now at $4500. Insanity.

Here's a project I DP'd on using the C500 over a year ago I did. (The editors had to edit on a 720p timeline....)

I don't know why nobody makes a wide angle zoom point and shoot. I'd love a G7X or RX100 with a 16-35mm equiv and I think a ton of vloggers would as well.

Here’s my video review on the speed booster I got from a previous thread. Just posting here so we don’t have multiple M50 threads.
Speed booster really solves the issues with the 4K crop. I wish Metabones would make an “XL” version for EF-M so it takes the 4K crop to proper super35. But still, the .71x isn’t too bad.

Just can't believe how good is the M50, it is a camera that you can get for less than 600 bucks on eBay!!!!....if it just had DPAF in 4K could have been a perfect camera......if the price go around 500 bucks I will get it anyway....

I did some tests comparing my 1DC to the M50 in 4K.
In the video, you can see that the 1DC in 4K actually has better rolling shutter performance. Also, to my eye...the 1DC has an advantage in overall image quality. More richness and color information in the files. It also seems a bit sharper as well.
HOWEVER, with a speed booster, the M50's 4K is usable, and if anything, will serve as an excellent B camera for interviews. The rolling shutter in 4K is probably so bad that I wouldn't recommend it for gimbal shots. But as you can see in the test, using the FCPX rolling shutter fix plugin, it stabilizes it fairly well.
I'm hoping a true full frame 4k mirrorless camera comes from Canon soon!

One thing that I wish the canon cinema series had that stills cameras have is Auto ISO. I know it’s not a “pro” feature but it’s so usable for run and fun shooting. Wish the C100/200/300 had that.

100%. I have had these conversations with YouTube consultants. This is true. VR, 4k at 60fps, EVERYTHING YouTube is offering you need to prioritize that for analytics advantage.

Interesting looking back on this thread. In retrospect, now that I have had some time to play with the C200, I think it is a great camera. The hardware concerns were largely not warranted. However, there is no getting around the fact that the files are large. But the GH5S also produces large files. Granted half the size, but nonetheless large.
The C200 and 1DXMK2 match easily in post. The GH5S is not so easy to match with either camera. All three are great and imo have decent motion cadence. I rank them as follows:
    1. Canon C200
    2. Canon 1DXMk2
    3. GH5S
But in terms of flexibility in post the Canon C200 has an edge with the GH5S taking second. For baked in colors the 1DXMK2 is first.
I prefer the Canon images. I shot all three side by side, in a test that I admittedly screwed up. I had the C200 set at ISO 6400 with NDs enabled and forgot to change it back to 200 for this test. But that  only added a little noise. And the image was still perfectly usable. Overall, and I know this is subjective... I feel the C200 produced a better image with better colors.

If it's going to live on YouTube my belief is that you should be adapting to and using everything Google gives you (cards, subtitles, etc,) as the ranking algorithm will give you an edge. So yeah, I would upload to 4K and beyond if possible.

The speed booster and the C-Mount lenses came in today! The speed booster is fishy. Using my all manual CONTAX Zeiss, the image displayed on the M50 is super choppy. Almost like the video card in the camera cant handle it or something. Really weird. But when I put an actual EF lens with electronic contacts on it, it works fine. I assume this has something to do with my Leitax mount CONTAX glass.

Below is the CONTAX ZEISS 28mm F2.8 WITH the speed booster. Shot 1080p, 24fps. I did test the booster, and autofocus with dual pixel DOES work and it works well. What is interesting using this adapter with this camera is, this is the ONLY Canon camera that shoots full frame video with focus peaking and a 4k mode that has a flip out screen. I hope to see a fully articulating screen like this with focus peaking on the future full frame mirrorless from canon.

Below is the same lens. Same distance. Without the speed booster. Just using the EF-M to EF adapter from Canon.

The c-mount lenses were a downer. You get very serious vignette, even in 4k. I know there are some C-Mount lenses that mount on APS-C. Maybe I should pick some of those up. The only way to use the C-Mount in 4k is to either crop it to square format, or zoom in 150%. Neither is a practical thing and I wish I did more research on this before I jumped in. Anyone know any C-Mount lenses that would suffice on a 2.4x crop?

It sounds like you’re threatened by this camera so you’re making sure you point out any and all shortcomings you can. Isn’t sissy a bit emotional ? You’re reaching.
Some people will be happy with 10bit 422 as their maximum image quality as long as they have a tilt able screen and autofocus.
Most serious image makers know that 12bit raw and 10 bit ProRes for half the price trumps the MILC features you’re desperately trying to remind everyone your precious GH5s has. Mostly because “filmmakers” don’t tend to use those features anyway. I don’t use AF.  But I shoot narrative drama.  What I need isn’t what others need.
For the majority, they will prefer the utility of the form factor, longer battery life, AF and IBIS on the GH5 and will find the bare minimum for serious work 400Mbps codec to be good enough.
People who care about image fidelity will likely prefer what a Pocket 2 produces side by side and will also decide that they can work around the shortcomings that pertain to the way they work.
The same way others will prefer to work around the shortcomings of a lower bit depth more compressed and sub sampled image because other features are important to them.
On board batteries on an Alexa mini on my last show were lasting about 40 mins by the way.  I guess you’re calling me a sissy.
    JB
EDIT  by the way, I don’t think it’s at all appropriate to use sissy, a word that means effeminate man or homosexual. Maybe you want to change that.

I’ve been playing around some more. I found a better wide angle adapter. It is able to go over the entire lens just enough to cover the lens and be gaff taped onto it. the autofocus works perfect and the new focal length is 14mm. So we now have a 14mm f2 autofocus lens. It’s perfect for vlogging!

Also, I found the EVF to be way too small and crappy to use as an actual method for manual focusing. So I pulled out my old BMPCC Z-Finder and it works great! I just gaff taped it to the monitor, but you could probably buy the Zacuto sticky mount for it. (You’d loose the ability to fully close the screen obviously.)

Also, I don’t know why but I’m just really enjoying toying around with this camera. I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed something this much. I had fun like this when I got my BMPCC for the first time, or when I hacked my 5D3 to shoot raw. It’s just plain fun.
