    Absolutely.
I believe he says it at 2:40 or so. I could be wrong.

Actually each and ever interview with Pety and the Blackmagic guys is interesting. Because they all give interesting information Including why they didn't put ProRes RAW on it and whay he thinks about it.

Sorry to remark: for the vital part (concerning "little or no advantages") it is not true. I am shooting every day (well, not exactly every) between internal and external on GH5. First, for some reason DNxHR codec works better than ProRes on Atomos. Second, there is significant difference especially in greatly suppressed Noice Reduction, but also in noticeable less sharpening with externally recorded DNxHR HQ. What previous poster, to whom you answered, stated is, I think, simply too superficial (or maybe naive) impression - "details" confused with absence of heavy correction, while at the same time claiming with obvious insulting tendency/dictionary about oversharpened rubbish - which get several likes of like personе.
As @Jonpais put in the words my already long resource of enjoy: efforts of degrading to the zero quality of GH5 image in this (so often) theater of many omnipotence personalities are so funny and sympa.
What is even more funny is to read how the same people that yesterday glorify GH5s or Fuji or what else new (actually, I believe even GH5 at its dawn) now started to minimize everything to favor of yet unseen new BMPCC - camera with modest un-cinematic m43 mount...
Because RAW must be so great! - so, thanks for such original and powerful discovering - from these so powerfully sounding and discovering mouths.

I really like the ergonomics for such a camera, that I probably use with a speedbooster, or bigger lens, not so great with m43 lenses, even GH5 is a little more in both size and weight for my taste (even the 12-100 Olympus is too small and light for such a camera).
It is actually a bit shorter and has less depth than the Panasonic, and obviously wider because of the 5" screen.
I would really prefer a 4" screen, as the best compromise on-a-camera-monitor, and obviously some kind of hinge, preferably the kind of Samsung/Sony has that doesn't take any space from the side of the cameras, and help with lower/higher shots, but for the price, I really can't complain, can I?!
If everything goes well, and nothing "better" (= more preferable for my case) exists until then, this is a certain buy. Just can't see how NOT having one for the price. I already have 4 mirrorless right now, I can sell a couple and get this as a more video orientated camera. It is that cheap.
On the other hand, this is not a hybrid, nor a photo camera, I can't see that it will replace my hybrid system, or my photo taking machines, so I believe all this negativity against Panasonic is unfair, and really unnecessary as there are at least 5 things that GH5 does A LOT better than the Pocket (and a few more that Pocket doesn't do at all), and the most important thing, is that you can take it right now, and make a video. I doubt anyone here can say the same for the Pocket 4K!
GH5 is 1 years old, and shaked the industry well. It sold amazingly well for such a camera, there isn't a company or a group of people that are in the business that do not have one, just in case. What it does is just amazing for the price. I mean, what were the other options last year? What are the other options right now, for less than 1800euros? There isn't any, really.
Also, if you need an Alexa, you take an Alexa, how the GH5 is in the same conversation with a camera that cost as much as dozens of GH5, (multiple dozens, and add a couple of GH5s dozens, for good measure!) it is seriously above me. Do really people think, that Arri is doomed because of the Pocket then?
We started from killing Canonikon, then we moved to Sony, today we killed Panasonic, and now we are moving to Arri, in just 24 hours!

You must be on some kind of drugs then. I've never seen a GH5 video that didn't look like absolute garbage at 4k... hell, it doesn't even look like a proper 2k image. The Sharpening and NR have no true off settings and it renders the detail as nothing but over-sharpened muddy-plastic. I'd like to see this GH5 video that has the "nice detail" you talking about. I'd love to be proven wrong...

Nikon has been using the same stuff in the front half of the Nikon D810 for years. This has been proven to work. It isn't going to be a toy camera, holy crap.
How many magnesium alloy cameras do you think Canon makes? The sky is falling.

But what you held wasn't what they'll ship. The models that we get will be made with a different material, so I wouldn't judge that too quickly for now.

Trust me, I have my hands on some ProRes and DNG materials from the camera (acquired from NAB), it's clean af up to about 6400. Noise pattern is very pleasant fine grain, due to lack of compression obviously. The sensor is confirmed to be IMX294CJK, it's the STARVIS line from Sony Semicon with BSI design, originally intended for low light surveillance.

You can do NR in Resolve to a higher standard than in the GH5S or any other camera... Tons of processing power to throw at the RAW files and you get to choose how much film-like grain to keep.

Well a lot of us were requesting Atomos to make a 5" recorder. Well BM has made it happen in Spades. I doubt Atomos is happy about this roll out either!
Jesus the new Sony A7s mk III is going to have to be a mini F55 to make it at 1500 bucks on top of it..

The price will intimidate many GH users. A large chunk of them like to think that their camera is the very best: anything more expensive is stupid overkill and anything equal or less is garbage. This price bracket seems to be where the most fragile egos exist.

Nathan Gabriel reacted to BTM_Pix in Would You Perhaps Be Interested In A Different GX80/85 Colour Profile???
    Well, that escalated quickly.
Thanks to Saturn in Berlin leaving a GH5 unattended I was able to do a quick sniffing session and the app does indeed control the angle increments so I now have the command to do it.
Its a bit of an unusual structure so I suspect the camera needs to be in the specific mode to accept the offset parts of the message but its something to go on when I get back. I'm not convinced it will work on the GX but you never know. At least I can include it in the device for GH5 owners if nothing else.

    Cheers.
Yes, I've been busy with real work but also with making big changes to the controller.
No, the camera hears the command and then does absolutely nothing to action it.
Might as well tell a teenager to clean their room.

Nathan Gabriel reacted to BTM_Pix in Would You Perhaps Be Interested In A Different GX80/85 Colour Profile???
The whiteboard and diagrams put me off watching it but I think I've got the gist of what's going on.
The GX80/85 doesn't have the shutter angle control but that might not be a dead end.
The two ways to possibly do it would be the usual trick to fake the message coming from Panasonic's app and hope the GX accepts it but this would rely on it being available in the app in the first place so if someone with a GH5 could confirm that then that would be a start.
The other option potentially would be to send it shutter speeds that were 'in the cracks' and see what happens. The shutter speed commands are formulated in a particular way with the shutter speed as you would recognise it (50,125,250) etc combined with another number that is sequential but reduces by 8 (or something, I havent got my laptop to hand) between each step. Maybe, there is some mileage in seeing if changing the second number to something less than a difference of 8 is a way to set it between the cracks.
So, in summary, the answer is a hesitant maybe but I haven't got a GH5 and I can't look at the other method until I'm back off this trip next week.

I hope they are pricing whatever they do like the early Blackmagic cinema cameras, but with much better sensors and much smaller design concepts with low energy consumption.

I completely agree! Nikon should have hired the entire Samsung camera team and gone to work. Samsung tech, Nikon design input, optics, marketing and brand name appeal = sure fire hit, especially if they did both an APS-C model and full frame like Sony do.
Magic Lantern say they were in contact with Samsung just before NX1 was cancelled. Never known such a push into enthusiasts hearts by a big company. Usually they are more interested in selling toasters and microwaves by the millions.
Nikon are way too dependant on Sony for sensors IMHO... One change of mind at a Sony management meeting and bang, there goes your sensor supply. Even though there would obviously be contracts, I doubt they are all that far reaching long-term contracts.
Here is my ideal spec of a Nikon mirrorless camera for 2018:
Full frame, 24MP (6000 x 4000), with clean ISO 12,800 6K video in both H.264 and H.265 format, with further option for ALL-I and paid upgrade to ProRes 422 LT Nikon flat profile IBIS At least 240fps in 2.5K... 4K 120p would be nice too Huge battery in the main body grip, without need to extend size of camera with vertical grip. Make literally the entire grip a battery (like Hasselblad). NX1 inspired ergonomics and control layout Nikon colour science but updated for Rec2020 and HDR standards - wider colour gammut Dual Pixel AF with robust tracking - even with EF mount adapter No F-mount nonsense - do a shallow flange like E-mount for adaptability Wide range of fast primes and official adapter for F mount Nikon logo, understated pro design... but not retro hipster bullshit Df style plastic affair! NX1 or Leica SL style please! I believe this is what we have to look forward to in near future... just don't know who from...
Now do it for $2.5k instead of $3.5k and you have yourself instant market share.

The NX1 is so responsive out on a shoot. Never had a snappier camera. The S zooms were state of the art. There is OIS + hardware accelerated warp stabilisation in-camera for handheld shots that are more locked down that 5 axis IBIS. You can even walk with it. When I hark back to my trip in Lisbon with it, got nothing but fond memories! The colour! The easy laidback operation! The insane resolution! Monitoring off an AMOLED right there in the street! Feels like a luxury living room not a shoot! It's super light and the pancake 30mm F2 is a bundle of fun. Loved Ed's new york films shot on the NX1 as well.

When it came to some of the drawbacks, many of them turned out to be software related.
For example the dynamic range was fixed by remapping to 16-235.
Then the firmware update allowed you to do this in-camera and even raise the master pedestal black levels.
The blue-sky banding was related to certain transcoding methods for H.265. Again much better now.
And you can now edit it natively quite comfortably on a modest spec of machine!
The hack then came out on top of the firmware updates... and although the high bitrates in 4K don't make a huge difference, the very fact it happened at all was a miracle and no camera aside from the GH2/4/5 had a larger gang of hardcore enthusiasts around it, with hacking projects, dedicated sites and forums springing up all over.
Some aspects of the build quality is as good as the Leica SL, particularly the top panel LCD with sexy orange backlight and the seal on that, the finish around parts of the body is absolutely a class act.
It was way ahead of the time... way over people's heads... at a time when the NX range was lower-end heavy and too exposed to the market shift. Timing was just all wrong. The timing for an NX2 now however is just right. Although having said that the US stock market did just crash and there is a run on Bitcoin

Well... i was interested in how well the GH5s compares to the GH5, 5dmk3 and the a7r3 in terms of lifted shadows on RAW images... just to see how good the sensors are.
From the recent dpreview, here's a screenshot of the 4 cams at +6 stops ...
Imho, the raised shadows from the GH5s and the GH5 seem similar. They both beat my old 5dmk3 handily.
But damn, that A7r3 ... that image quality should be forbidden. If only its codec could keep up
