tomsemiterrific got a reaction from Frank5 in EOSHD C-LOG
Posting a movie showing a comparison between EOSHD C-log created by Andrew Reid and original Canon C-log. Reid's C-log can be loaded into any Canon DSLR.
In shooting I used the C-log in the XC-15 and EOSHD C-log shot with the 80D. Both clips are hand graded, and they are graded with a LUT (C-log to Rec 709).
How similar do you think the results are?

Yeah mine is the older one.  I bought it when it first came out, 2014 or 2015 I think.  it doesn't have any contacts on it.  I'll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it.

Yeah, same thing here. I bought this unit for my GH4 and it fits perfectly. Very tight. No need for expensive speedbooster with an all manual FD lens.

If you don't need the speedbooster style optics I bought one of these years ago and the machining is in a whole other league...all his adapters are first class manufacturing.

tomsemiterrific reacted to Ed Andrews in Why Color and Skintones are so tricky to get right
Regardless of your lighting, other factors will affect skintones. You can have an LED with 100 CRI but if the person is sitting at a large orangey wood table, the light is going to be bouncing off that and giving a slight orangey cast to the face. Same with red carpets, snotty green sofas, big blue walls, etc. Sometimes you will have to tweak in post. I'm no expert but I always key the skintones in resolve, tweak hue vs hue and desaturate a bit, always helps.

Even the Metabones has a play in it. Jordy from Cinecom (YT channel) claimed that few weeks ago, and duct taped the mount as a fix.
From personal experience I can recon Zhongyi - Mitakon Lens Turbo's, the IQ is great and comes in affordable price. However, mine had a really small play in it. It was a problem only when I was shooting anamorphic, otherwise, I loved it.

Actually, they are. But the reversal is not in the Fn menu setting. It's a few items below it. Typical of the camera companies they do weird things. Why not have one category for all options? Nope. Can't do it. Put wheel options on another line, and put the options for the joy stick settings in the place you make the settings under one category (fn) and enable the option to make the joy stick settings in a completely different place in the menu.
Who decides this stuff anyway?!? And Nomenclature---don't get me started!!
The disp. function button is in a terrible place--right where you will want to hold the camera--especially if you have a fairly weighty lens, like the Sigma 18-35; and you can't disable it. So, instead of it being helpful, it becomes constant possible distraction.

Only kidding. As long as folk spend a good few days training up muscle memory, then finding the right combination of autofocus settings for the job in hand will be no different to taking the lens cap off an a6500 and hitting record.
    Sort of.

tomsemiterrific reacted to jcs in a few questions for Canon C300 mk ii users
I'd skip it and focus on shooting  Those settings are for matching other cameras, under special conditions, 'just in case', etc. Canon Log 2, Cinema Gamut, and Production matrix works very well with PP CC ARRI LUTs, and FCP X automatically applies a LUT which looks pretty good.
In order to speed up production for some blogging stuff I'm working on (shooting me at my desk vs. models/actors in the studio), I've started testing Canon Log 3 with Rec709. So far it's looking pretty amazing straight from the camera (don't want to spend any time in post at all, just shoot, cut, upload, done). Another reason to figure this out (great look straight from camera) is for live streaming (which BTW- the C300 II doesn't do 4K over HDMI, only 1080p (4K out is RAW only)). Using something like OBS (free), it's possible to record live to H.264 locally (and of course straight to YouTube or Facebook) so zero post work is possible. This guy works well for 1080p capture (recommend the heatsink mod for long-term usage): https://www.amazon.com/Magewell-XI100DUSB-HDMI-Capture-Video-Dongle/dp/B00I16VQOY. For 4K (Sony A7S II), this works well: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1271171-REG/epiphan_esp1100_av_io_4k_usb_3_0.html. Both the C300 II and 1DX II make great live-streaming cameras because of the excellent SOOC color and AF.

I'll throw in the first suggestion:
Be able to toggle on and off the vector scope and the waveform while shooting--like Sony cams can. And also show the vector scope and waveform on an external display--like Canon does.

Glad this was of help to you. Once I got it straight I thought I'd provide something other than what has been rudely thrown at me here and on FB: "Did you read the manual?" "Just shoot green?"--no explanation beyond that; "Do you have google on your computer? If so, use it."
I ask myself, "Why the Hell do we have sites like EOSHD?"
I always thought it was to share information and save time and to provide clearer, less convoluted information than we get from these TERRIBLE web sites and user's manuals.
But apparently I was wrong. Go figure!
Apparently, by the words and actions of some I get the sense they believe it is for them to be rude and snooty and to try to make people feel inferior and inept---that is, as long it is not they who are trying to get good and pertinent information.
Anyway, I thought I'd take advantage of my 35 years of communicating and teaching to actually lay out the needed information in a clear, orderly fashion. Because that's what I thought EOSHD was about--for all of us to courteously help each other.

Well Sony said they wanted to be number 2, and I think they may be number 1 if they come out with some killer stuff this year. I hope already at NAB!
I think it is Way too late for Nikon now. They better have the best products they have ever made this year, or they are done. You can't live on your past reputation like you use to in this day and age. Technology moves Way to fast for the old turds that are running Nikon now. It's a Shame it is looking like the end is near for them though. They just seem clueless as of late?

You mean the automatic punch-in when you move the focus ring on native lenses? How would the camera know that you've moved the focus ring on a non-electronic lens, that doesn't communicate with the camera?
Personally I find the automatic punch-in distracting and annoying, and just assign focus zoom to one of the function buttons.

There is a cure for the iffy AF--if Panasonic would only take the medicine and incorporate dual pixel AF. Sensor size has nothing to do with it. I have a Canon XC15 I use for presentations and some field shooting. It has a 1 inch sensor--like a Super 16---and the AF on it is FANTASTIC--rock solid, never hunt, not even for a New York Nanosecond. Great for interviews.
