omar reacted to IronFilm in $5700 what canon camera do I buy?
How about... NONE??
Get a Sony FS5 instead.
I think in his situation then he is in a perfect place to jump ship to something better, as with merely a 60D & SL1 he is hardly heavily locked into the Canon ecosystem right now.

Nice lenses. They should work great with Canon's DPAF. I don't know anything about Gimbals. I would probably go the Steadicam, Glidecam or Movi route... But that's just me. I'd rather my stabilization be mechanical instead of electronic.

Exactly this!! You should take this route if you don't want to spend all your money on your camera.

omar reacted to Geoff CB in $5700 what canon camera do I buy?
I thought you didn't want to spend your whole budget on a camera?
It's a fantastic option, with great features and 4K, with the RAW output available for your film work.
It's Autofocus is inferior to the C100 Mark 2, and it's menu system is much more complicated. You'll have to add the cost of the Metabones adapter to get all the features of your canon lenses as well.

If you do not need 4K, I agree you should get C100 Mark II.

omar reacted to JazzBox in $5700 what canon camera do I buy?
I would buy the C100 MkII: it is a complete system with ND filter, audio inputs, good log codec etc...

omar reacted to Nicholas Natteau in Canon C300 Mark II flopping vs the Sony FS7 at rental?
Hi Andrew,
I couldn't agree more with your article. As a former C300/1DC owner, I love Canon's color science (especially for skin tones). And I was eagerly looking forward to the C300 Mark II. But not at $16K or even $12K. I then hoped in vain that the 1DX Mark II would at least have Log.
If this C300M2 rental slump continues, Canon may have to drop the price yet again to (hopefully) $9k or $8k. Today, it would have to approach the price of an FS7 to be as competitive and attract the same mass market interest for indie doc filmmakers that the C300 once did. I know that might sound strange considering that the C300 was once $16K for only 1080p, but times have changed and the competition is fierce.

omar reacted to Andrew Reid in Canon C300 Mark II flopping vs the Sony FS7 at rental?
Various sources have suggested that the C300 Mark II is having difficulties coping with the run-away success of the Sony FS7 on the rental market.
Is it truly being left on the shelves? EOSHD analyses an unexpected situation...

omar reacted to Andrew Reid in Canon 5d Mark IV press release and specs!
I am guessing the main difference are the teams behind them
Looks like Canon have distinct stills and video teams who work separately on programming the chips
These guys are primarily controlled by their bosses though
And I am pretty sure their bosses follow a strict overall company strategy
Which is to divide EOS photography lines and Cinema EOS lines very carefully so they don't cannibalise one another in terms of pro stills or video features

My wife was selling a camera on ebay and got a bid , then boom, buy it now.

Paypal emails, says to send the camera, funds are being held until its confirmed that he gets it.
And that was the scam -

So this scam is stupid because the money doesn't go into her account. Also I typed the subject line into google, and 4 other people had the same email - via rolexes, etc. The poor scam artist could have at least modified a few words!
The better scam I almost got hit on years ago is on a macbook pro I sold - he sent the paypal, and he gave an address. fedex noticed that address was an abandoned area of town, and the only reason I got the laptop back is that he was at lunch when he was supposed to be there to grab the computer.
So they steal the computer, then they report to paypal they never got the computer and then , they have the computer for free.
___
The above guy was lazy.
Anyway, in the internet age, there aren't burgulars anymore or pickpockets - there are online scammers.
Imagine if someone came to your house and stole $1500 from your place. you would freak out.
how is this different?
I don't want to reference anything that went down on this forum, but this got me thinking because the person who did the fraud said he would refund money but he hasn't and he probably won't because he's involved in many, many camera scams.
He probably has at least 10 going at all times.
He probably also has some hook up in the USA and preys on people like my wife - with his knowledge of cameras too, he can be a pretty convincing buyer.
Anyway, the internet sucks.
People scam people on it a lot.
Because there is no face to face communication. A person doesn't know what it feels like to get robbed of $1500 online because they never see that person.
No one knows how it all feels.
Anyway
I really wish Andrew Reid would jump into this.
i feel like we all have PTSD from the event.
I know I probably encouraged some of it. But I still feel horrible especially now that I know that one of the scam victims still hasn't gotten his money back.

omar reacted to Andrew Oliver in Canon 1Dc $4,999
I decided to signup and become a member just so i can personally combat this silliness. You're actually suggesting that he feel bad because he bought a camera, saw it go down by 3k, and decided to take advantage of a return policy that a huge company has in place in order to make the most money for themsevles? Do you think Adorama has that return policy because they're a bunch of sweethearts, or because it ultimately improves their bottom line and gets more people to impulse buy?
Now that i've got that out of the way, i just bought the 1dc. Anyone have any thoughts on C-Log vs no C-Log shooting? To my eye, i think i agree with Abraham Joffe, that not using C-Log and just dialing down the contrast achieves the best look. Admittedly, i'm a novice shooter.

omar reacted to Dave Maze in Canon 1Dc $4,999
From Adorama:
"We believe that in order to have the best possible online shopping experience, our customers should be 100% satisfied with their purchase. So, if you're not happy with your purchase for any reason, just go through our easy self-service return process."
I wasn't 100% satisfied because within that 30 day window the price of the camera went down $3000. That's reason enough according to them to be able to return it. They ran tests on it and responded to me that everything was fine and they clearly saw my usage of it. They still issued the refund. I don't feel like this was a wrong thing at all. Nothing in their return policy does it say "if used on paid work returns aren't allowed". If anything I would think that that's the best way to decide if your "100% satisfied". To use it in paid work environments since that's the way you're gonna be using it if you decide to keep it.
Hahahaha!
